I am now convinced that the defenders of our Constitution have never perused or even glanced at such documents. Constitutional law is fun enough to argue these days, with pretty much every American claiming that the language is cut-and-dried and it is SO OBVIOUS exactly what rights are guaranteed by each amendment. I have had to explain to a number of people that Constitutional law is a topic hotly debated by many brilliant lawyers and politicians, essentially down to literally every word of the document. So no, the purpose and interpretation of that amendment is not 100% clear. For people posting that macro though, just suggest they start at the amendments that only have the number '2' in them. That should clear some basic moronic opinions up. Ahahahaha.... or not. Ror fucked around with this message at 20:03 on Jan 19, 2013 |

They often point to successful guerrilla wars and insurgencies as examples. They, of course, ignore that such campaigns are carried out by the sort of men who are content to hike 20 miles a day in sandals and survive for a week on a handful of rice.

It's also easier to fight against a foreign occupier and convince them to pull out than it is to fight against your own people who have nowhere to retreat to. And any tyrant trying to take over the country from within would have to come to power with a significant amount of popular support, and those supporters would have the same gun rights as the brave resistance.

My special kind of stupid Facebook friend posted both the picture of Obama with the book Post America World with the caption about it being written by a Muslim and about the world after America, and the picture of Obama giving a speech with no flag behind him unlike every other president ever. Sometimes I don't know whether to argue or just unfriend.

I. It's a joke image, right? The one with a robot mosquito and people panicking that the GUVMENT is using robots that look like mosquitos to land in your home and scan an RFID code onto you. Oh god no, not mosquitoes! WE CAN'T USE GUNS ON MOSQUITOES.

And don't forget those campaigns they like to point to (Afghanistan, Vietnam) took well over a decade, nearly three decades if you want to include the Vietnamese struggle against the French immediately following WW2, before they achieved their ultimate objective. Hell they didn't even win militarily, they just played the long game and waited for the war(s) to become politically unpopular and then sued for peace. I fail to imagine these blowhards achieving the same degree of success in the scenarios they masturbate to.

Do you know why Barney had only one bullet? Because Andy was practicing gun control. He knew it wasn't a wise idea to let Barney have more than one in the chamber and by every example we're given, he's exactly right. Barney's hair-trigger temper and poor reflexes meant that he shot the floor, ceiling and everything that wasn't intended to be a target. Oh and Andy could be the sheriff perfectly fine without carrying a gun. During the course of The Andy Griffith Show, he never shot anyone.

The French again? Isn't it funny how so many Americans seem to define their rights so narrowly, and/or don't even understand them at all? If it can't be screamed about by some red-faced pundit on Fox News, nobody's interested.

Tonight my dad claimed that the government, as part of Obamacare, can seize, tax or somehow extract money from people's 401k's. I didn't really know if that was true and couldn't Google so I tried to extract exactly by what mechanism he thought that would happen and of course he really didn't know, ultimately settling on that they might take out a loan against your private investment account... which makes no sense at all. Anyway, after our call I tried to verify the basis of this 401k change in Obamacare and I haven't found a drat thing. Anyone know anything about this? Sorry about the lack of details, this is all I could get out of him.

Sorry about the lack of details, this is all I could get out of him. It's part of an IRS conspiracy theory involving Obamacare. I had the same argument with my parents, and reminded them that the IRS already has the power to garnish your wages. They just kind of sputtered for a while insisting that all of this was so new and shocking while I just kept reminding them about how many powers the IRS already has. It probably stems from an echo-chambered Limbaugh talking point from when Obamacare was going through congress.

I was recently told that Obama was going to raise the Capital Gains tax to 35%. He'd also add a 5-10% tax for Obamacare which brings it up to 45% And if you're married, multiply that by 2 and you get 90% of your money gets taken away by taxes.

I got the North Korea, Iran, Afghanistan border meme from a high school acquaintance. I responded with how he apparently wants the US to be like those countries and I asked what other policies he would enact like those countries. His response was "stop giving away free poo poo to those breaking the law.....poo poo paid for with my taxes." I told him that "admitting that you support fascism and communism (real communism) is the first step to take". He promptly deleted the entire post. VICTORY!
