All you need to do is "just boot tethered" on any pc/Mac with redsn0w.

You can recharge it on whatever, just don't let it power down. I thought it just wouldn't be jailbroken if not tethered at bootup. Not that it wouldn't boot at all.

FWIW I got a 3GS when it was fairly new and only had a tethered jailbreak, and used it for 3 years straight. You reboot an IOS device so rarely that only having a tethered jailbreak is not that big a hassle. YMMV. With the one I had, the device would only boot into DFU mode. You then had to connect it to a computer, any computer, with blackra1n to finish booting.

Oh, so wait, is 6.01 the current version? I haven't updated iOS for a while. I'd like to update to 6, but don't want to give up the jailbreak. I was under the impression none was available.

I'm selling my iPad 3 running 5.1.1 (but not jailbroken) on Craigslist, and a buyer is asking me blob questions. I never bothered to save the blobs for 5.1.1 and I'm not sure if I upgraded it to 5.1.1 or if it came from the factory with it already installed (bought it in April, I think). So to close the sale with this guy, I installed iFaith and Redsn0w. iFaith gave an error about the feature not being available and Redsn0w did the same. In Windows, Redsn0w went all the way through DFU mode prompts and then said something like "this isn't available on the iPad 3" and in OS X it just has the "Fetch" button greyed out. Now, as I understand it, this iPad can totally still be jailbreaked, right? But, if it came from the factory with 5.1.1 installed, there is no way of getting the 5.1.1 and/or 5.0.1 or whatever blobs? I meant to use Tiny Umbrella before Apple stopped signing 5.1.1 but DFU mode was always such a nightmare with my Apple TV, I just never wanted to spend the hour cursing and stabbing at buttons. Plus I always thought iFaith could just rip the blobs off 5.1.1 anyway so what's the point. Guess I was wrong?

Based on this morning's tweets, it seems like they're waiting for 6.1 now. I know they were really only waiting on the main injection vulnerability and they've been pretty active posting the last few days.

6.0.1 means no iPhone 5 or iPad mini since they ship preloaded with 6.0.2 now, plus with 6.1 around the corner they'd be super stupid to release this.

Blackpois0n was also supposed to break iOS 5 before anyone else released one, and iOS 4. There's probably a good reason why no one has ever successfully used it.

When was the last time a jailbreak was released that looked so OBVIOUSLY fake as this? It looks crazy-fake and is filled with terrible spelling. Nothing comes out like that. Jailbreak info hits Twitter (and maybe IRC) first, and is talked about by known security-experts. Not from obviously-fake sites. I've only been following the jailbreak "scene" for a bit under 3 years, but it's been pretty darn easy to spot a fake. Wario In Real Life posted:It's not hard to load Cydia if you've got a dev account. Have any info on this? I do have a developer account and have my devices filled with open-source software already. Binary Badger posted:Jailbreakmatrix says 6.1 beta 4 has been jailbroken, there's a new group called the Evad3rs.. Anything that runs on a pre-A5 device will always be "jailbroken". The limera1n exploit is used to load things before the OS loads, allowing anything to be injected into it. If iOS 7 runs on a pre-A5 device, it's as good as jailbroken. I use my phone more than my laptop or desktop computers and not being able to arrange everything the way I want makes it take almost twice as long to get anything done. That and the default icon layout is loving gross and makes having any kind of pleasant looking wallpaper worthless, and having to make three folders for work apps for me or the four folders of games for my daughter is retarded. Honestly the things I miss most are folder enhancer, infinidock and gridlock. Well, those and PDAnet for long train rides.

So now that I have something that I care about both having jailbroken and not losing all the data on it, are there any special steps I should take with a jailbroken iPhone 4 to get it on 6.1, jailbroken, without losing all of my contacts and crap? Is it enough to just do a backup through iTunes, factory reset, and then restore from backup before jailbreaking again?
