This can't possibly be loving real.

quote:

A rising chorus of congressional Republicans are calling on President Obama to acknowledge that the pop singer Beyoncé lip-synched during his inaugural festivities on Monday and resign from office, effective immediately.

“By lip-synching the national anthem, Beyoncé has cast a dark cloud over the President’s second term,” said Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky). “The only way President Obama can remove that cloud is by resigning from office at once.”

While many in the media have blamed Beyoncé for the lip-synching controversy, Mr. Paul said, “We must remember that this happened on President Obama’s watch.”
Mr. Paul said that the White House’s refusal to comment on the Beyoncé crisis “only serves the argument that this President has something to hide.”

“If Beyoncé lip-synched the national anthem, how do we know President Obama didn’t lip-sync his oath of office?” he said. “If that’s the case, he’s not legally President. But just to be on the safe side, he should resign anyway.”

I mean at some point you just have to sort of admire how loving crazy the GOP, and especially everyone's favorite son of a gold bug are.

It is satire. I know Poe's law is in effect at all times, but you should know better when the author is Andy Borowitz. It is a great piece though. My favorite line:

Mr. Paul also blasted Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for her testimony on Benghazi before the Senate today: “Her tactic of answering each and every question we asked her didn’t fool anyone.”

I dunno how many of you listen to Houston's AM "news" station, but it's got all the regulars like every other city.

But we've got one special guy, a former city council member, named Michael Berry.

(yes, he is gay. And don't go to his site)

He's kinda milquetoast, compared to Levin and Rushbo, but he's got a rather strong racism thing going on and boy does he hate Muslims. He has the drivetime slots before Limbaugh and after Hannity and has actually done a few decent interviews with musicians and other such non-political things, but goddamn he's a nutjob about a couple of things and is just as absurd as the other guys on AM. Although he's never been very anti-gay and got caught in a trans bar last year, but it didn't seem to hurt his popularity very much.

Today a thing caught me when he was bitching about Clinton's testimony. He was describing the day Stevens was killed and pointed out how the locals dragged his corpse through the street and probably raped it (cause that's how those ferals behave). I know this was a popular line on Fox the day of the attack, but wasn't it thoroughly dis-proven within a few hours and didn't the locals in Benghazi take over every known location of the group behind the attack in retaliation?

Oh and then he moved to the shooting on the northside yesterday that hit the nationwide wire. "Those thugs that shot eachother were so stupid that one shot himself. This is how dumb these thugs are." This was especially funny, given this weekend's news. Also, black people are thugs.

All mass shootings have wounded except this one.

Children are the most resilient age group, how were they mown down so easily by bullets :catstare:

gently caress this pisses me off. There weren't any "wounded survivors" because each three and a half foot tall and ~50lb six-year old was shot between 3 and 11 times at point blank range with a loving assault rifle. It doesn't matter how "resilient" children supposedly are when they're basically torn apart by gunfire.

Then, unprompted by me, Veronique described what she saw: “We all saw how beautiful he was. He had thick, shiny hair, beautiful long eyelashes that rested on his cheeks. He looked like he was sleeping. But the reality of it was under the cloth he had covering his mouth there was no mouth left. His jaw was blown away. I just want people to know the ugliness of it so we don’t talk about it abstractly, like these little angels just went to heaven. No. They were butchered. They were brutalized. And that is what haunts me at night.”

Reminds me of the time I accidentally caught some of Huckabee's show, and he tried to argue that because he, an old person, television personlity and former governor, and Obama, a black man, bestselling author, and current President of the United States, could both vote, Voter ID laws were totally not disproportionately affecting old and black people, and were thus hunky-dory.

It's really amazing how long it's lasted and how successful the anti-hunter kookery as a subsection of the overall gun nut propaganda has been. I remember when the Brady Bill had first made the news back in the 80s and some jerkasses were whining about it, my dad told me he'd cancelled his NRA membership back around 1979 because it had become obvious even back then they'd been taken over by a bunch of loons. We're into the fourth decade of this stupidity and yet somehow hunting has managed to not die off.

Not to mention most shooters literally shoot hundreds of dollars a way a year at paper targets and soda cans. It's an expensive hobby. People can spend their money however they like, but don't try to pretends their livelihoods and ability to eat is at stake. Unless they also prep, butcher, and sell the meat they hunt, then they have an argument about livelihood. Luckily no one is trying to ban hunting.

The effect of it really is pervasive though. They were always angry, blaming others for their lovely jobs and why they didn't get a raise and always going on about whatever talking points they'd absorbed, like thinking ACORN runs the world for instance. I could tell just be eavesdropping in the lunchroom what Boortz, FOX or Rush were on about that day.

Largely, it would just be background noise or listened to out of habit, I think. I doubt they really paid much active attention to what they were hearing, but it definitely sunk in, sort of like learning a foreign language with subliminal sleeping tapes or something. I'm still wondering how much of it is confirmation bias versus how much of it is actually effective brainwashing, but I tend to lean towards the latter.

They may delve into different narratives and specifics of a given item, but if the memo comes down from on high that "today, we discuss Benghazi" then they ALL do Benghazi. Or guns. Or what have you.

The liberal shows I listen to really aren't like that at all. Conservative media is very highly coordinated and whatever topics they want to talk about on a certain day are distributed to each other constantly. You get the same exact opinions, even right down to the same buzzwords, whether it comes from radio, TV, newspapers or blogs.
