Don't hold out hope for Dark Arisen being released as DLC for the original game, it's not going to happen for technical reasons.

Oh, it's old news but I don't think it was ever posted in this thread: there's going to be a new title screen song. Panic! :supaburn:

How can they properly represent the game with some lame rear end J-Pop song that contains 0% Dangans?

I bet you don't even fly into free in that fuckin' song!!

Maybe Capcom doesn't get it after all..?!

The PC port discussion is like an unending plague that follows me from video game to video game. I can't escape it, no matter what discussion I turn to. Everywhere I look it is people trying to start petitions, writing explanations about framerate and resolution that we have all read before a thousand times. Maybe some day, we will live in a world we we can all accept the fact that pc ports are cool, but do not always happen for technical and financial reasons. I can only hope.

I finished Dragon's Dogma ages ago, but this thread's giving me the urge to bust it out again. Playing a sorcerer was so satisfying because you could just lay waste to an entire bandit camp with a single, well-placed cast.

Also, I wasn't that excited for Dark Arisen, until I started thinking about a Tier 3 Maelstrom. I mean really thinking about it.

This might be a day one for me...

Yeah, it's just a bummer because Capcom does really good ports and the engine that this game runs on is really slick on PC (see: Lost Planet, DMC4, RE5.)

I guess we could pretend we don't want the port but it's pretty obvious that it SHOULD have gotten one. They port every other game on the engine except the one that suffers the most from the limitations of consoles. I am confident also that people would have bought it. Look at the Dark Souls port, it seems to have done extremely well.

If developers, seemingly arbitrarily, decided to not release games on certain consoles without a deal with MS or Sony or anything, people would complain about it all the time. Same phenomenon.

edit: Also, I ended up only by pure coincidence being able to even play this game, so it annoys me in particular that there was no PC port. If I hadn't wanted to play Demon's Souls so badly, I would have missed out on Dragon's Dogma.

Is it the same engine as RE5? drat shame we aren't getting it then, that game runs a constant 60 for me, even if I got half that constant Dragon's Dogma would be vastly improved.

I think they have their own proprietary engine that they do everything on. Obviously it's modified in various ways to fit a given game and has gone through different versions but it's all "MT Framework" as the base engine.

So, fought the offline Ur Dragon as a level 51 mystic knight with my sorcerer pawn and another mage and warrior pawn.

In two battles, I took down about... 85% of a health bar each time. I think I spent a little too much time aiding pawns. Maybe I should go in with just the main pawn?

I finally bothered to collect the last few stones and complete the game! I'd maxed fighter, warrior and mystic knight without touching any other classes. I hadn't even hired an agility class so I'd pretty much never seen an archer. :allears: Started a NG+ to see what the fuss is about, everything feels very fresh this way.

Having moved since I last played I now have an HDTV to hook up the 360 with, but when I try it in HD the entire screen has a strong green tint. None of the solutions from google searching seem to resolve this, it's definitely not a loose cable. Anyone else ever had this? The colour's fine when set to TV, but gawd who wants to play at regular definition. I've never messed around with the Xbox much but I recall HD Red Dead fine with a different TV.

Yeah, same here. As much as I like the game, I won't be getting the expansion because there's no excuse that it should not be DLC. Capcom has a bad habit of releasing the same game several times, and I'd rather not enable them.

If nothing else, i'll wait until it drops to $20 since that's probably what the DLC would cost anyways if it was digital. I am really enjoying what i've played of Dragon's Dogma so far though, this game is really really good.

If the vanilla game was changed around enough and the content in the new area is plentiful then 40 bucks doesn't seem too bad at all. It costs twice as much as Skyrim's Dawnguard and Dragonborn. From the press releases Dark Arisen seems like it contains a hefty amount of content and not a few extra characters and balance tweaks.

I'll have to listen to that new theme song in full before I pass any judgement. Though, unless it's a kick-rear end rock ballad like the original then I don't think I'm going to like it much.

If you're going to pick it up this weekend you might want to just wait 'til Dark Arisen comes out as that'll include the full game and more, plus it'll be full retail price.

You'll want to get it on PS3. The two versions are pretty close, but the 360 needs installing for that performance and the community on PS3 seemed to last longer.

This breaks my heart Dark Arisen isn't going to be DLC.

I hope the huge underground doesn't suffer from Bethesda-itis with tons of cookie cutter corridors with an interesting set piece every level or two.

I'd of really liked to see an expansion of the over world. More castles and such. Now that it's a full disk there's less reason we can't see some sort of expansion of the over world, too.

I'll be hoping and checking the news for it,

I admit this game has some flaws but it's nowhere near "DON'T BUY OH GOD DON'T BUY" status even if they're things that really bug you. Good chance that guy is a dope.

I wrote a big fat review of this game for fun the other day and I came away from it thinking that I disliked the game's flaws even less than I thought I did. That doesn't make a lot of sense to read I guess, but I think this game really is more than the sum of its parts in a lot of ways and the problems are relatively minor. It's not another one of those games that goons(including me, I do this a lot) really love but is royally hosed in some way.

Same here. I was fairly shocked when I bought this, the guy behind the counter told me it was an amazing game, but he felt the Pawn system was kind of wonky. It had been been so long since I'd heard an actual opinion about a game from a Game Stop employee, instead of them just telling me whatever I was buying was poo poo and that I should get the new CoD instead.

The Pawn stuff is surprisingly really good. The only downside is that they don't shut the hell up and you have three of them saying slight variations of "The path forks here". Personally, I'm all for just having your main pawn do all the talking and only have the other ones say something when your pawn doesn't know that piece of knowledge. If you tell them to shut up then you never get told anything and sometimes it's good to be reminded of what works against what and what the weakness of some of the enemies are.

While they're chatterboxes, you can minimize it to a degree by visiting that one chair in the various Inns. There's a question where they'll ask you if they should talk less/more, and if you haven't already, you can disable the dialogue pop ups on the HUD.

I always told my pawn to talk less while sitting in the chair and it never seemed to make any difference at all. Pawns being retarded was sometimes part of the charm of the game for me though. There's some swampy areas near Greatwall in the upper left corner of the map, your pawns will caution you not to step into the water but then happily trudge through it themselves before screaming about being poisoned and blinded. Or jumping into the fountain in Gran Soren and yelling about getting soaked with water while looting pocket change, accompanied by the goofy BLOOP sound that plays when a character is soaked.
