It doesn't make you completely blind but it definitely reduces your night vision a bit. In the Z06 even with dimming it still was pretty bright.

before you ask, yes I did inform the DMV of my condition and medication, and I passed the medical and psychological evaluation when I got my license. I've passed them every time I have gone to renew my license.

I stuck a newish VW OEM touchscreen into my older car and I don't have a problem with it at night. It dims when the lights are on, plus I can set the brightness manually in the menus, plus it dims when I dim the interior lights.

I personally like using the touchscreen as it can convey a ton of information efficiently and lets me get around the 8 GB or so of music I have on my SD card pretty quickly. It switches displays depending on SD card, CD, AUX, or radio, so you aren't stuck with a single button doing multiple things.

What makes it usable in a car is that the unit still has physical buttons for volume and skip tracks and mute. Anything you'd want to do while driving, you can do it without looking. Or by using the steering wheel controls.

The one that got all sideways? Just an old slingshot top fueler. Back in those days slick tires were usually used truck tires with flat rubber caps bonded to them. So you had no sidewall give and hard compound caps, meaning traction was nonexistent. Top fuel cars used to smoke the tires through the entire quarter mile up until the mid to late 1960's and the development of purpose built slicks with wrinkle style sidewalls.

My dad has a IS-250 with the touchscreen and there is a readily available option to completely turn off the screen, which he does almost always at night.

IMO any car that doesn't have such a feature is loving retarded, as they are bright as gently caress even on their lowest setting.

I love how the bumper on the Ford wriggles with the suspension in the final shot :)

My car does 0-60 in about 9.5, too. It's never felt slow to me.

According this video, the base Polo did 0-60 in 20 seconds. Holy hell.

Man, that video reminds me of the argument I got into with one of the guys in my shop about old vs. new cars. Somehow he just couldn't wrap his head around why walking away from a totaled car is better than being being hospitalized and coming home to a car that just needs some paint and a headlight bulb.

The more I hear about that car the more it annoys me. I frankly doubt they have any plans to put anything even remotely resembling it into production. Yes, it's built with mostly off the shelf Volvo parts, but from what I've read a lot of them have extra machining work done on them. Also it's somewhere in the area of $300k to have them make one for you.

Admittedly my opinion doesn't matter much as the closest I'll be getting to an S60 polestar is my 6 year old S60R which I bought 3 months ago, but it's disappointing. I realize it's hardly their wheelhouse, and this Polestar partnership, while promising, has so far only resulted in a different engine map and a trim package. Volvo makes safe, fairly reliable, very comfortable, well equipped cars and while the S60R is far from the greatest sports sedan it's a very nice sports sedan to live with. Something newer and a bit sportier which retains that good all around package and replaces the haldex with a proper all wheel drive system would be very welcome. It's a pity Volvo hasn't shown much interest thus far in making such a thing, even if their racing partner has.

As a technical achievement it's impressive. But Chris Harris is right. Merc's BMW's and Audi's are at a place where the only way to be better than them is to be cheaper than them. It's like the Lexus LFA. Very good on paper but at 350,000 it's no Supra replacement that we where hoping for.

I Want To Believe.
It looks like they thought it was a captive strut assembly, and it had just enough gunk and rust on it to act like one up until the last minute.

A couple of smacks with a rubber mallet is a good way to free off things like that, supporting the lower arm with a jack while you do so, and then lowering it slowly.

I *really* wish the lakes in NS got cold enough for that, even if for only a month. Rallycross is murder on cars but I can see that being something you do with a normal car, just with the added investment of tires.
