For a comparison, this only has 22 likes, but it's the #1 rated because it has less downvotes than that piece of poo poo^^^(by... 6). It's also a very good read in its own right about the violence

quote:

I felt a need to speak out because of some of the flippant comments. It
doesn't matter if it is a young woman commenting about this issue or a man; whether
someone playing the sport is metro sexual or not.

The fact of the matter is I have a son who LOVES sports and participates in all
kind of sports. He played two years of city league football and was ecstatic
when he had the opportunity to play high school football. He trained all
summer, every day twice a day with the team to get into shape. On August 1,
they were issued their equipment to begin contact practice. I was unable to
inspect his equipment because parents are not allowed in the field house.

On August 22, 2012, I went to pick my son up from football practice and he was
walking around like a zombie. He said, "I think I have a concussion."
I told him let's go inside and talk to the trainer. There was not a coach in
sight. He became very upset and argued with me because he was worried about
what the coaches would do. Ultimately, the medical trainer established that he
had a severe concussion and set us up with the medical specialist for the next
day. The other players told the trainer and me that my son took a helmet to
helmet hit, hit the ground, got up and kept playing. No coach even saw it or
knew about it. After investigation, it has been determined that he played for
another 40 minutes in a "blacked out" state.

To date, my son is still living with his concussion. He has endured hearing
loss, ringing in the ears, vision problems, motor skills damage, significant
headaches (that have not left him even for one day), loss of taste and smell,
memory loss and he now reads on a second grade reading level when prior to the
accident he was on a junior college level. My child wakes up each morning and
sits on the side of the bed and there is "no one home" behind his
eyes for about 30 minutes.

We go to multiple doctors weekly. He has had to go to neuro-psychological
testing to determine the extent of the damage. This would not have been
necessary if the school would have performed the baseline tests on the players
prior to begin contact practice. The school told me they didn't do the tests
because they did not have internet connectivity in the field house. My medical
insurance will not pay for this because it does not cover psychological issues.
The school will not help because they have you sign lots of paperwork in the
beginning that states they will not be held liable. We go to multiple tutors
each week to help him make up missed school and help him learn to read and
comprehend again.

I have been extremely disappointed that not one member of the coaching staff or
the athletic booster club has ever contacted us to find out about my son's
status / condition. The coaches and athletic club constantly bombarded my email
and phone in the beginning wanting paperwork and donations. The athletic club
was very prompt in sending out emails asking for prayers for the star player's
elective surgery. Upon returning to school he worked very hard to "catch
up", while being constantly told by the coaches that they were going to
have to move him out of their P.E. classes because he was taking up space due
to the fact he was not medically released to participate.

This is just a small snippet of what he has endured. We do not know if or when
he will recover or to what extent. But as a parent, I am thankful that there is
more in the media about concussions, brain injuries, accidents, etc. I am
thankful that there is a spotlight being placed on this topic and those studies
are being conducted. Most NFL players are held up as heroes and I know that
their fame could be used to leverage the medical community, sports authorities
and coaching staffs to rethink things.

Maybe if a bit more thought would be given by coaches for younger people, then
the equipment would be inspected, techniques reviewed and policies revisited.

Concussions have always been a human malady, but seem to more prevalent now
due to the bombardment of information available.

So before you judge, spout out that they aren't "man enough", or
ignore statistics, just remember that each person living with a concussion, no
matter how mild or severe, has people who love them and are helpless. There are
those of us that want to know how to make this not happen to another child;
whether girl or boy. But most of all, there is a mom who loves her son
with all her heart, how he was, who he is and what he will become...

To be fair, that hit when he was receiving would be a pretty massive cheap shot in the league. Just show a normal guy playing RB for 2 plays and the absolute pounding he takes.

Honestly, it's so easy for guys that look at themselves as 6'0 210 lbs thinking "Im the same size as him!" and thinking they could do it.

Obscure to all except those well-versed in Yuuzhan Vong lore.

One easy way to solve all this...petition Goodell to sit on live TV, like NFLN , and take a polygraph administered by any number of former FBI agents. Let's have the question asked in front of the whole country. Give him immunity, if that placates all the violently intense NFL lovers who insist the NFL is the only entity in the entire United States of America that is impervious to such corruption.

Is the NFL in collusion with other corporate entities to predetermine matchups and outcomes of NFL postseason games and especially the Super Bowl?

Yes or no.....one simple question asked directly on live TV...if he answers truthfully, while having immunity" we will finally have our answer.

quote:

Not that Goodell would ever tell the truth, even to an FBI agent.

That being said, I firmly believe that the TV networks have far more influence than people believe. Ratings are directly related to billions of dollars in revenue, and I think there is collusion between the league and the networks to do whatever they can to pump up ratings.

When these executives meet on the golf course, do you really think that all they talk about is the weather ?

There are many examples, like a TV timeout that stalls a drive, schedule changes at the end of the season, tailored to pump up prime time ratings, the whole replay system that's reliant on network camera angles, referee teams that vary wildly in how they call a game from week to week, and on and on.

I don't think it was any coincidence that a "let 'em play" group of officials was assigned to a Superbowl between two of the most penalized teams in football.

Those guys pretty much guaranteed that the Lewis saga had a fairtytale ending.

I've come to view the NFL like reality TV. Fun to watch, with a lot of manufactured drama and surprise endings to capture the viewers.
