I think this question is within the scope of this thread:

I have seen 2 AC/DC "box sets" on iTunes, one is 79.99 and is all the studio albums, there's also a 99.99 set that adds live albums. Would either of these be worth getting or would sticking to certain individual albums be better?

Don Caballero, Shipping News, June of 44, Rodan- basically their Louisville scene contemporaries/other bands. Gonna assume you already know bands like Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, etc. Oh, Karate might be another good one for you.

edit- My brother also came up with Engine Kid, Polvo, Ganger, and A Minor Forest.

I'm really digging this particular song because it reminds me of a more moderate, melodic Aphex Twin - Windowlicker; I love the vocals and the rich layering of instruments.

Like everything recommended so far is golden, but Rusty by Rodan is like a crunchier carbon copy of Spiderland, and everything by Shipping News is really really close to what that album was laying down, so if if you want some very direct recommendations there's that

edit: And post-rock is a pretty commodious genre that is awfully prone to being projected upon, but there is definitely one strain that's sparse/brooding/artsy-fartsy that was popular in the 90s, and one strain that is twinkly/majestic/dramatic that's popular now-ish. I definitely prefer the former, which is why I don't get much traction out of the post-rock thread here which from numerous glances seems mostly to be about the latter.

I'm curious as to whether anyone could help me find some electronic music with a cyberpunkish feel that isn't overtly dark drum & bass sounding. Stuff kind of like Mosh: http://iammosh.bandcamp.com/, Nero's more house-ish tracks, or Yoko Kanno's stuff for Ghost in the Shell. So essentially the darker, more experimental side of house, soundtracks to Cyberpunk movies or abandoned projects, and music similar to either. Witch House is also good, as is some of the more melodic side of Industrial music.

This compilation is amazing and spans most of the Muslim world, so its not just Arab music. It is prohibitively expensive though. http://www.amazon.com/The-Music-Islam-Boxed-Set/dp/B000005Z42. Sublime Frequencies also has some great compilations, but most of those focus on Western influenced stuff.

It would be remiss not to give Dead Kennedys or Agent Orange a mention. I also really like Hotels, a post-punkish band from Seattle who have some surf influences in their songs, especially during the solos.

Red Garland

Those suggestions are good on their own but it's not really what I'm looking for, tbh. I'm not really a fan of surf-influenced hardcore punk. I know Dead Kennedys aswell as a little more obscure bands of the genre, like Man or Astro-Man? but I feel like they take most of their inspirations from the harder, Dick Dale-ish surf rock. I prefer the more subtle surf guitar, from the likes such as The Ventures, The Shadows and The Chantays. Heavily reverbed, nasal guitar sounds. To give a more modern example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax8eMnKGO-w

And this type of guitar sound I'm looking for. Dick Dale and Dead Kennedys stuff makes me feel rebelious; Blue Stingrays and The Tornados make me feel transcendental - that's what I want. If you know what I mean.
