I thought the same for the first few minutes but then the announcer guy showed up and it was great. "Jeremy has insulted Duncan Bannatyne and now he too is out." I do agree that a 2-3 minute trim of the P45 segment would've been nice.

I wasn't too impressed with the whole show really, it wasn't that great. The Pagani segment bored me, only the Bentley rally was decent. I don't see how it was awkward comedy. I can't stand to watch any kind of awkward situation and I loved it. I think you people are just broken. It's not like it was painted as a realistic situation, it was clearly all fake.

I wasn't saying the TG segment was like that, I know the Dragons Den show as I've seen it, that's why I found the ending so funny. Yes it was 'faked' as you say. I was just agreeing I don't like a type of comedy in general, which is a type of comedy TG don't do (well) anyway. Edit: VVVV What are you talking about? There were cars, fun and laughing in the Bentley rallying segment and I liked it. Fo3 fucked around with this message at 16:06 on Jan 30, 2013 |

Was a good episode I think and I'm just glad Top Gear is back finally. Huayra seems awesome but I hate the gigantic wing mirrors. Bentley rally was cool and I wish they'd shown a little more of it. P45 got some laughs out of me, but I actually found the Dragon's Den portion at the end to be the least interesting part. Gee the Dragon's dislike Jeremy's stupid car? Shocking I say. Wreaked of BBC cross promotion rather than being anything interesting.

TGUK: drat, if the rest of the season is this good it's going to be a good few weeks. TGUS: The hosts seem to be "getting" Top Gear more and it seems more natural than usual, but the filming was worse than last year IMO. I watched the latest Chris Harris on Cars (the 458 Spider) after finishing TGUS just now and it just seemed so much better done by comparison. Fuckit though, there's more car poo poo to watch on TV that's entertaining, who am I to complain. Fifth Gear comes back in a few weeks, so for the short bit of overlap it'll be car guy couch potato heaven.

Shoving an entire mariachi band into an old VW bus is always funny, although the other two groups were good as well. I'm certainly glad they dropped SIARPC for this episode, it's always so jarring to go back to that segment when they're on a roll.

They seem to be making the show more about the personalities and less about the cars, the problem is the personalities are TEEEEEERRRIIIBBLLEEEE. Rather than the cars in the challenges being the cars, they are in every situation part of the terrible hosts character.

wolrah posted:I watched the latest Chris Harris on Cars (the 458 Spider) after finishing TGUS just now and it just seemed so much better done by comparison. Wow, thank you for introducing me to this dude. He is early Jeremy Clarkson with an added heaping helping of refinement. He's a guest on some bumbling idiot's show in this video - about 5:30 Harris learns that we never got the E46 M3 CSL and just grunts. Sunday's Top Gear was a 7/10. The Bentley rally was amazing - I thought the driver was reaming May a bit hard, but then he actually started being of some use and it became obvious how big of a handicap May was by calling things late/missing things. Jeremy in the P45 should have shown the battery transition then cut the mall scene, cut a bit out of the highway driving (got old after the third bump-related scream, though I was genuinely afraid for him a few times), and completely skipped the Dragon's Den part. Damian Lewis and Clarkson were both incredibly awkward during the interview and it's become completely obvious that SIARPC is nothing but studio-sponsored celebrity face time.

I've always put it down to them being, basically, middle-aged farts. They don't quite grok that what was once a cheap use-it-and-chuck-it fun car is now actually quite hard to find in decent nick ten or twenty years later.

The show bought whatever kind of cars the guys had in college. TGUS has a lot of "what kind of car did you have" things where the goal isn't to get a good car for whatever price, but just to buy whatever car at any price and then do dumb poo poo in it. I don't mind them spending money on lovely cars and ruining them, because the car was just rotting away anyway. But to buy decent quality cars that are probably in better condition than the ones the hosts owned and then destroy them for no reason is stupid. That's not really in the spirit of a car show.

I don't think the cars they destroyed were the same cars they were driving anyway. In the parasailing thing there isn't even a drivetrain and there's no way they just "made" the VW think while down there at some shop.
