Non Serviam posted:Same here. Aina is great! And yeah, North America. Western Canadian metalhead angst is a familiar feeling. I think I read some interview with a guy who organizes for ProgPower USA where he said that Avantasia touring in the states was nearly impossible because they'd have to spend over $10k in visa fees alone. And that the US is the only country that makes it that difficult

Fiendish Dr. Wu posted:Add to that the fact that those types of bands have poo poo ticket sales here I can see why. I tried to think of a more insightful response to this than just the smith emoticon, but really, it's the perfect summation of everything I feel. The fact that I have seen goddamned Dragonforce live, but will likely never get a chance to see Avantasia, is a burden of truth I must bear. So, Nordick posted:EDIT: Oh and Tobias Sammet is awesome and I'm looking forward to the new Avantasia album. I used to be a big fan of the first album, but nowadays it and the second one mostly just bore me. However The Scarecrow and onwards have been really good. The Metal Operas were a little more standard power metal-y, and therefore seemed to have a hell of a lot more filler, but the story will always have a place in my heart despite the goofiness. Also The Seven Angels is still like fourteen minutes of earsex that throws you into a bunch of crazy, mindblowing positions you didn't think were possible outside of porn. I will agree that I generally prefer The Wicked Trilogy in terms of musical variety though. I'm really interested to see how The Mystery of Time presents itself: no matter which grouping of albums you prefer, they did a very good job of distinguishing themselves both in story and sound. I'm also excited for the story just because I'm a crazy person that gets too invested in concept albums. I dunno if I'd make the comparison to Edguy, however. They're both fronted by Tobi but they're both meant to accomplish different things, different tones and etc. They both do their own thing very well At least I think so.

I don't know if you gentlemen have heard of Satalaggh. Well, they are back as Gulaggh quote:In 2007 when Stalaggh completed their trilogy ('Projekt Nihil', 'Projekt Terrror' and 'Projekt Misanthropia'), they changed their name to Gulaggh. A Stalag is Nazi POW concentration camp, a Gulag is a Soviet work camp. The extra G and H stand for Global Holocaust. It's just screams. 45 minutes of pure screams. This poo poo will give you nightmares. You can listen to this atrocity here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuO9xtNsRs0 We work with the former live guitarist of Anaal Nathrakh, who reviewed this album, and even he found it all hosed up: http://www.metalblast.net/music-review/gulaggh-vorkuta/
