As expected, the jailbreak worked flawlessly. Kinda sucks not being able to install any programs though. All good things come to those who wait, though. Curious how you guys using SSH to get into the phone when the OpenSSH package isn't available, and if I had the SSH package, wouldnt you need SSH access to install it anyway??

OpenSSH was one of the few packages I could get through Cydia, primarily because it has no dependencies. Then, these will be handy: http://iphoneblogr.com/2010/09/how-to-install-a-deb-file-via-ssh-and-terminal/ http://cydiaupdates.net This isn't much of a panacea though given that until you get a package with mobile substrate installed through Cydia you're probably going to be trapped in dependency hell. I've gotten f.lux, Activator, OpenSSH, and a couple of small tweaks installed, but that's about it. Not bad for day 1, though.

Cyntac is the best jailbreak tweak.

MickRaider posted:Is winterboard still the buggy piece of poo poo it was during the iOS5 days. Or have they finally updated it? Yes and yes. But install it anyway. Issues I've seen with the iOS 6.1 jailbreak: - device may hang on boot (stuck at Apple logo). It's possible that this only happens once (hold Sleep + Home to reboot). - icon cache gets rebuilt (a pause when opening a folder. more items in folder = longer pause as icon cache is rebuilt). This is similar to the icon corruption in iOS 5.x jailbreak. planetbeing swears him and saurik fixed the white icon issue in September. - Weather app is broken for a lot of users. Some say that restoring fresh & re-jailbreaking got it working for them.

I've had some luck manually downloading each .deb file until it actually downloads then installing via OpenSSH. Oh NCSettings how I missed you!

Chalk another one with a broken weather app. That said, I never use it and stick to the notification weather widget which still appears to be working and updating so I'll survive until a fix comes out or I'm forced to restore for another reason.

Lum_ posted:OpenSSH was one of the few packages I could get through Cydia, primarily because it has no dependencies. Cool, thanks for this. I was able to change the password of root and mobile users. For those new to jailbreak, this is a security measure to ensure your device is safe from unauthorized access or malicious programs using the default passwords to access/break stuff. Granted, I've never heard of a rogue program like that, but creating your own password is a good idea anyway.

A few years ago someone ran a script across most of the Australian phone networks, to check their known 3G IP addresses. It tried to SSH in using default root details. If it could get it would install a script that would change the users lockscreen wallpaper to Rick Ashly. Pretty harmless in retrospect but could have done a lot of damage if they wanted to. http://forums.nonewbs.com/showthread.php?t=201019

Is there any way of extracting a package i downloaded in cydia into a .deb file that I can put on my compute to transfer to some of my other devices? Because I'm getting server errors on my ipad and itouch now when trying to install things that I already downloaded and installed on my iphone.

Apple's own servers are being overwhelmed from people finally upgrading to iOS 6. Lots of people were staying at 5.1.1 until 6 was jailbroken.

It might be worth mentioning that if you feel impatient but willing, you can see what items a package requires, and then try downloading them individually. Often (not always) but often, it works better. So like if I try to download NCSettings. It fails. But if I try to download PreferenceLoader, then let it install, then go back and download WeeLoader, then let it install, then try to JUST install NCSettings, it will work.

I appologize in advance because I'm sure this question has been asked about a thousand times in the last few hours, but there's a lot of new posts do dig through here. If I make a backup of my old-firmware jailbroken device, then do a clean restore to stock OS, then update through iTunes, then jailbreak again, then restore my backup, is that going to save all my jailbreak stuff, or only my "legit" apps and settings?

Argh. I had an iPad 4 with 6.0 and I did a backup in iTunes, then restored manually with the 6.1 IPSW. After it rebooted, I used the "Restore from Backup" option but none of my apps are installed and all of my books in iBooks are gone. This can't possibly be normal behavior, right? Is there something I'm missing here?
