I'd love a cast list of sorts for this, so I could match all of it, but instead I'll just settle for asking what 2001 is supposed to be.

Those are all the Best Picture wins so that should be A Beautiful Mind. Not sure why its empty though.

Because so many of the people in the film are imaginary/not real.

I assume because he imagined a lot of stuff in the story, and so it wasn't really there, and so...

Because John Nash interacted for years with people who weren't real. I have to admit that for a brief moment I thought Hollow Man had won a loving best picture Oscar.

No poo poo, but that's the Oscars. Oliver instead of 2001 and Shakespeare In Love over Saving Private Ryan are the pretty egregious ones.

As much as I appreciate what Kubrick tried to do with it, it's just not an accessible film.

This ones more inexplicable, I take comfort that when the remake was nominated it had no chance of winning.

With the Oscars, I feel like the real question is what was the most recent Best Picture selection that didn't make you go 'really? That one?' on some level. I'd have to go all the way back to No Country for Old Men.

Maybe The Hurt Locker? Looking at the other nominees that year, it was probably the best choice out of the bunch: there's some fun films but hard-sells for the Oscar like Inglorious Basterds and Up, critically-acclaimed but not-commercially popular movies like Precious, A Serious Man, and The Descendants, the technical marvel that's Avatar, along with pure Oscar-bait like The Blind Side and An Education.

Maybe The Artist, as well? Looking at that year, the only one that's not Oscar-bait is Hugo and maybe Moneyball and Tree of Life. We should be glad that The Help didn't win last year.

I want to hate on this for being minimalist but I can't. The scenes are pivotal scenes from the film, so it's not some obscure shout-out like most are. And the scale of environment to Indy makes everything feel epic, which is what you should be going for in those films.

I do think whoever designed that should look into more textures, however. I can see that they used that watercolor texture in both the Raiders and Temple of Doom posters.
