And the best part is that the thread gets derailed for multiple pages every time! Pretty sure that's why it was listed as bannable in the OP, it happened at least two or three times in the first part of the thread that I went through. I knew a dude in college whose girlfriend was named Ophelia. Both of them were spergs of the highest degree.

At work today, a spoiled little poo poo came in with the stunning name of Amethyst. She made a huge loving mess and Mommy just laughed.

Just remembered that the principal of my high school named his daughters America ('Amy', not that weird I guess) and Amazing Grace. I guess at least she can go by Grace. The boy just got "Robert". I grew up in a crazy hippie town so names like Amythest don't even make me blink. I went to school with an Aspen, a Leaf, an Azalea, a Garnet and an Isha Rainbowlight.

BAKA FLOCKA FLAME posted:Ooooooooh no you loving didn't Apparently this is some massive feminist no-no that was a victory for feminist nomenclature sometime before I was born. I have been known to use 'he' as a pronoun when talking about mixed gender groups or ambiguously gendered groups when needing a singular pronoun because using 'their' as a singular pronoun grates on my nerves. Honestly I feel like this is sort of a silly issue to argue about when we've got bigger problems like wage discrimination. Old school feminism was so much more concerned with proving that women are just the same as men than most new schools of thought, after all.

I work in a retail pharmacy so I see all sorts of wonderful names. Girl named Krickett. Older lady named Anemone. Boy named Krismas who was, you guessed it, born December 25th. His sister was named Precious. I pity those siblings. Every bastardization of the name Jasmine and Destiny. Nevaeh (heaven backwards) is somehow becoming horribly popular. Little Snow, Quannah Parker. The one that took the cake was the kid named Teen Wolf. Yes. Teen Wolf Garcia.

Now that I'm thinking about it, we had this rear end in a top hat Chinese guy in my fraternity whose name was Allent. Ok, so whatever, Allent. Everyone calls him Allen, because we're Americans and gently caress pronouncing terminal t's and that's a dumb name. But then we found out, from his mom that he was named as a tribute to Dr. Alan Grant from Jurassic Park. and yes, I think I will be paying Dilip Dudhat, DMD, a visit.

I live near a nursery school, a few weeks back I heard a mother shout for a "Citrus", a 3 year old girl came running. A guy I went to school with went out with a girl called Alma Dolphin for a few years, that never stopped being funny. When my mum worked in a retail, a woman came in with two small girls looking for school uniform, they were called Seren (short for Serendipity) and Ziggy (as in Ziggy Stardust), my mum asked about the unusual names and the woman said that they were her foster children and that their druggie parents had given them the names. I also know a 7 year old kid called Beckki Diamond-White [LastName], for those non-Brit goons, Diamond White is a brand of very very cheap hard cider, popular among chavvy people. I suppose my name is pretty weird, it has next to no meaning and seems to have come out of no where in the late '80s/early '90s, (it's Laken.) I'm not sure if this verges into "didn't happen" territory, but my sisters husband is a teacher, and swears he once taught someone called X95, who was apparently named after something to do with Harley Davidson motorcycles? I also met a guy while waiting for the megabus called Harley Raine, he's a chiptune/8 bit musician, and I made him show me his I.D to prove it was his given name. This is more unfortunate than truly terrible, but one of the girls I used to work with was called Lisa Phyllis, which, if you say it together, sounds like Lee Syphilis.

Looking up something for a student today I found out that we have hundreds of people at my university named Antoinette, some with weird spellings (Antwinet). Most are middle names, i.e. Sharonicka Antoinette, Krystalynn Antoinette. Also, someone a couple pages back mentioned the name Craver - that's a very common surname. It's probably a family name but it does make a pretty unfortunate first name. Silly Hippie has a new favorite as of 16:10 on Feb 13, 2013 |
