I just remembered an old-rear end educational game we used to have on my family's first house computer: Undersea Adventure. I don't know what I ever could have thought was fun about this game; it seems boring as hell to me now. Well, I think there's definitely been a lot of retro stuff in every decade since the '60s, but there always still seem to be some fashion trends that aren't really derivative of anything that came before. Jackets and athletic wear especially have a pretty decade-specific quality a lot of the time: things like Members Only jackets, Air Jordans, and Marty McFly-style down vests in the '80s, and microfleece vests and jackets, Columbia winter jackets, and Airwalks in the '90s. I'm sure there are some other examples from the '00s/'10s but they're not really coming to mind.

Now that you mention it, I'm not sure what happened to my Toronto Raptors Starter jacket. I think it's at the bottom of some closet in my parents' house. I'd better go look for it, since apparently it might be worth a few bucks. And I didn't even like basketball. I was just an American who really loved the city Toronto. And Jurassic Park. And I wanted some excuse to get a Starter jacket. Wow, the Toronto Raptors name and logo is pretty 90s itself. Founded in 1995? You don't say.

Though eventually I figured out that if one lost a lead piece, I could keep it to provide "replacements" to other pencils that lost a piece. That was a big logical leap for an 8-year old.

Well, it was just half a dozen missions you had to complete, then you have to use a helicopter-mounted pizza and doughnut launcher to help the police officers catch the Brickster, and that's it. Unlike the other games, there just wasn't very much replay value. As noted, when I was younger, the only games I played were Lego games and Age Of Empires II (until we got a PlayStation, anyway). In fact, Age Of Empires II could almost go here. The narrator for the William Wallace campaign was brilliant. He was like a parody of Braveheart ("BUILD TEN MORE... WOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAD RRRRRAIDERRRRRRRRS!").

There was some Rocket Jockey style game where you flew around in an arena and fought ... monsters? I remember watching a preview of this game, and one of the monsters was cleverly called a Shreddy Bear -- a toy bear with big claws. And I unironically thought, "wow, that is so edgy."

Well, clearly you're a big fan of those guys. I love them too, always have. Meat Puppet, the GAME, is probably the cheesiest attempt at a cyberpunk computer game, notable for being one of the earlier attempts at a 3D simulation. It mostly plays sort of like a sidescroller with some 3D enhancement but sometimes goes vertical or diag, and was generally not quite as 3D as the original Quake. You control Lotus, an extremely leggy former callgirl in a skintight suit, of course, who's been brainwashed to be sort of an assassin or whatever, and kill your way through several levels of extreme dystopian scenarios, all using these sort of tiled backgrounds that were obviously designed to reduce the work for the artists, but which had this collateral effect of sort of a Doom/MC Escher hybrid appearance, which I still kinda love. One level, you battle against hordes of vampire toddlers, all crying "Mommy" and "Mine!" as they pursue Lotus en masse to drink her blood, and she has to come up with ways of massacring them, such as luring them within range of a handy giant propeller and then turning it on, liquefying them, and other such brilliant stuff. Another great one, a boss level, you have a gunfight with some kind of surgically enhanced super warrior, who's constantly quoting Nietzche, Sun Tzu, etc. in a low grumbling voice while killing you with a shoulder mounted minigun or whatever. It was all too lo res really and so there's virtually no art online I can paste in here, but it had its camp value, as well as a nice techno soundtrack. Nickelodeon had some music during commercial breaks. Not the bumpers, but they were often percussive with objects used as instruments. One used trash cans, another a quartet giving someone a haircut, where the main percussion was pumping and lowering the chair. I'd love to post a link to the video of the latter, but I can't seem to find it. Anyone else know what I'm referring to?

More seriously, I was big into the X-Men cartoon when it was rerun seemingly endlessly on Fox Kids throughout the second half of the decade. I reckon it was an introduction to the characters for a lot of people; certainly, I was into X-Men before I started reading the comics.
