Yes, and no. My friend works for a drug testing agency, and says that testing for heavy metals is not something they do. It can be tested for, however. It seems like those tests are a scam for the most part.

I'm trying to remember the name of a certain instrument from a university chem lab for a report (they're on break now, so I can't phone). The instrument was being used to analyze the arsenic content of water samples. It operated by gauging current flow, which was proportional to the As levels, and displaying peaks on a graph - the higher the peaks, the more arsenic in teh sample. The instrument wasn't much larger than a microscope. Googling suggests a voltammeter, but I don't think that was it.

Ammeters or "amp meters" measure current flow (in units of amps)

Was it a conductivity meter? Not directly current flow, but could be used to gauge As levels.

What specifically do you want to know? I was there for a few days last year (including many other national parks) and it was one of my favourites. Although I didn't get up to the area near Many Glaciers Hotel I mainly stayed on parts around the going to the sun road and camped in St Marys Lake.

Actually looking at a map I almost hiked to Many Glacier. I went just past lake josephine and also did Iceberg lake.

On an impulse, I bought a box of frozen dim-sum without reading the cooking instructions first (they were next to the frozen pizzas, so I assumed they'd be microwavable). It wants me to use a "steamer", which I don't have. However, I do have this sort of pot which I use for pasta:

Will this suffice if I fill it with water to just below the inner pot with holes?

Dim-sum refers almost to a cuisine and not one specific item. I am assuming you have some sort of dumpling.

If you don't have a rice cooker you can use the pasta pot.

You should have about an inch of water in the bottom, you do not want it close to the bottom such that water could touch your food. You will also want to use parchment paper under the dumplings so they do not stick to your pot. get the water going to a rapid boil, then lower in your "steamer tray" and cook for the recommended time. The water *MUST* be boiling first.

Also try GWS small questions.

That is a steamer (basket) and yes it would work. Like 'XmasGiftFromWife' says dim sum refers to a lot of different small/bite sized dishes. You can microwave them but they won't be the same as steaming for most frozen varieties.

I get frozen dumplings or pot stickers and (slowly) pan fry them (covered) in a bit of oil. It takes some trial and error but once you get it right the end product is way better than just the steaming method.

OK, this makes sense in my head, so let's see if I can type this out in a way that makes sense. When air is warm, air molecules move about faster and more freely; when it's cold, they move more slowly and are closer together. Smoke molecules have to move from their point of origin (a cigarette or campfire) through the air, to your clothes. If they are bumping into other air molecules between point a and point b, they lose some of their energy and might not make it to your clothing. Think of smelling garbage around a dumpster. When it's warm out it's easier to smell that from a farther distance than when it's cold out.

Or to put it another way, the smell of something burning is carried by the energy of the radiant heat from its source. The energized molecules lose less energy when the surrounding temperature is warmer, so they can travel further.

I don't know if this is right, but it seems like a good explanation.

Or it could be because when it's hot out, you sweat more, which means your clothes are damper, and damp fiber collects particles in the air more easily. I don't know for sure, I'm just throwing another possibility out there. :)

Men both die earlier and also die more often of unnatural causes so I think it's nature's way of balancing it out. Then there's countries like China and India were they abort female fetuses regularly which artificially throws the ratio off and will cause enormous problems in their society in a generation's time.

I've heard that, since the sperm is basically just DNA with a tail attached, and the Y chromosome is smaller than the X chromosome, "male" sperm are capable of moving slightly faster than "female" sperm. (I am not an embryologist.)

A 20 degree C change in temperature makes very, very little difference in the kinetic energy of gas molecules. I'm more inclined to accept the latter poster's explanation.

I assume you're referring to frozen dim sims like these:

or something similar. If so, the pot you have should work fine. I usually find it helpful to pick it up and shake it about halfway through to unstick them from the bottom of the steamer.

You should also be able to microwave them, but it's fiddly and doesn't work as well. What you do is put a bit of water in the bottom of a bowl (not nearly enough to cover them, just a small amount), put the dim sims in and microwave them, but you'll have to stop it and turn the dim sims over a few times to avoid having them dry out too much. You also have to figure out the time required because different microwaves can take more or less time.

If you're going to fry them though then you can microwave them without worrying too much about that, then when they're unfrozen you fry them. You can fry them from frozen but it's not as easy.

I'm out of contact lens solution and I won't be able to get any more for about 3 months. However, I want to wear my contacts every day for about 12 hours a day until then. I've checked around and most websites say Saline Solution can be an alternative, which makes sense, but they only talk about as a temporary stop-gap, and not long term use. Are there any issues or concerns with using Saline for 3 months as contact lens solution? My contacts are just the regular soft contact Acuvue Oasis lenses.

And another small question, totally unrelated: Are there any websites or small programs where I can plug in a local time and it will tell me the time in a different time zone? Let's say I'm in Perth and I'm trying to schedule a call for next week; is there a site or program where I can plug in "February 28, 11am" and it will tell what that would be in Vancouver? Even if there's a google search string or something, that would work.

For your other question, Google came up with this for 'time zone calculator' which should satisfy your needs. You can't plug in dates, but time does not care what the date is.
