FIFA 98: Road to World Cup was the best ever. It had diving, you had a "get a red card" button and you could play at the indoor stadium which was awesome.

I think it was Fifa 96 that had a punch-a-player-in-the-face button. With the added bonus that sometimes the commentator would cry out 'I can't believe it! The referee's not seen it!' and then carry on as normal. Pro evo still had diving functionality up to this latest iteration I think, but its just a pain in the arse because usually you do it by mistake with no-one anywhere near you and get a yellow card.

Adidas Power Soccer 97 was the best football game. It had something called the "predator shot" and if you did it your shot was a rocket that keepers couldnt save, and if they got in the way of it they just got knocked backwards into the goal along with the ball, it ruled EDIT: it usually looked something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5hhjKwk6dk&t=73s Popehoist fucked around with this message at 09:00 on Feb 22, 2013 |

skram posted:Not Portuguese, but I believe it says Yes, that's it. FYI: Jesus is the name of Benfica's manager, not the other Jesus. This inevitably makes for oh so hilarious puns in newspapers, of course. Boavista is one of the five portuguese teams to have ever been champions of the league, three of which you probably already know of (Porto, Benfica and Sporting), one of which which was champion ages ago (Belenenses in the 60s), and Boavista. Boavista's presidents were the Loureiro family, Valentim and his son João. Major Valentim Loureiro was also the president of the city of Gondomar. You can see where this is going, right? Oh, yeah, TOTALLY coincidentally, the year Boavista won the title, the Major was the president of the Portuguese League, and two other notable figures in our football (president of the referees, iirc?) were also Boavista fans. João Loureiro and the most notable Boavista fan, Manuel do Laço. They were involved in the Apito Dourado ("Golden Whistle") process which also involved FCP's president Pinto da Costa, and were charged with corruption. Porto took a six point docking, which didn't stop us from winning the league with a 13 point league, but poor Boavista got hosed HARD. They were sent to the second division and fell into a downward spiral, only surviving because of, essentially, charity. Players playing for free, or almost free, former players contributing, free food because the bar lady was a big fan, etc. Manuel do Laço when Boavista got kicked to the second division. Well, yesterday their luck appears to have turned around, as they will be getting promoted to the first division again administratively. They'll probably get paid a huge sum, too.

Arsenal away fans are usually great. The home fans aren't brilliant, but they aren't helped by the fact that the Emirates is an atmosphere-sucking black hole of a ground. I swear they've managed to design stands that actually dampen sound.
