"Why not make a real action movie with fighting and explosions? Your art seems violent" "FINE I'LL TRY IT" Becomes billionaire movie tycoon, copycats struggle to flood media to get a piece of the action, society collapses, federation hunts them down again and threatens to wipe out humanity

I'm starting to wonder if this is another planet similar to The Most loving Awesome Planet Ever, in that the males of the species go to extreme lengths to keep their wives in check. If gender change really is brought on by success, then it would make sense for Drill Hinge to employ such tactics as say, rigged comedy analysis machines and bunk movies with fake box office statistics.

I'm thinking the vegetables are related to some sort of publicly-acceptable "pornography" and the surrounding plots are just as superfluous as its Earth-analogue.

After finally registering having been a long time lurker, I just wanted to say thanks to you goons for getting me onto Hitmen for Destiny. It's one of the best things I've ever read. While so far not as brilliant, rear end is shaping up pretty nicely too. Also sorry if I stole someone's username, I didn't think to check to see if lostclock without the capital was taken until after I registered.

"A story of two ugly old people falling in love seems less important because the audience would not want to have sex with these characters." "A horror movie about old people getting killed would be less scary."

He's right, Bubba Ho-Tep was not a very scary movie.

Sizone posted:Drill's well aware that not-Plume and Dunkirk know gently caress-all his society, as indicated by him calling them out on not knowing the slaving law. Pretty sure he knows what he's doing, it won't be his own ignorance that defeats him, it'll be Thorsby being the author. There's limits to people's imaginations. Aliens not knowing about laws is easy to imagine. But aliens not knowing about things so basic that one doesn't even consciously realize they exist is decidedly harder. I love these little evolutionary treatises. This seems kinda relevant: http://www.smbc-comics.com/index.php?db=comics&id=2853

I'm not really sure how I never saw it before, probably because now he's talking about humans and not aliens, but it suddenly hit me all at once that whenever he goes on these tangents it basically turns into : The Comic. Not that it's a bad thing, mind you.

I get the feeling that this stuff is meant to be how social evolution works in-universe. It's just there to explain how all these crazy civilizations developed. If it's not, Oyvind Thorsby may be the most cynical person who ever lived.

I really want him to make an Improbable Fist comic now. Mostly for the name.

Yeah, I tried everything, and the best I can get is like a little white box where the image should be.

My current bet on what's going to happen is that our two intrepid heroes make all three wives incredibly mad at each other and at them, and then it turns out that that's exactly what the husband wanted them to do in the first place, so he's really happy with them.

This is like a miniseries version of Lies Sisters and Wives and I'm loving it. There's no way Ben can out-shout four of these aliens as they try and figure out what the hell everyone else is talking about.

I get the feeling that Thorsby loves writing these conversations where both parties are arguing from an entirely different context. Which is good, because I love reading them.

The eye color changes never stop being funny. I also can't wait to find out how these aliens evolved cylindrical mouths.

Actually, from the context it looks like red eyes indicate either surprise or confusion. You shouldn't assume that red means angry just because it's associated with anger in humans. That kind of thing can get you into trouble.

I love this comic and I keep checking up on it every once in awhile, but whenever he tries to explain human species mechanics and other such things it sounds super autistic and biotruths. Oh well.

Oh well. I always read it as tongue-in-cheek and/or in-universe explanation rather than a serious attempt to draw conclusions about real life. I mean, this is a funny webcomic, not some crazy essay or anything. It's more like fictional biology heavily inspired by actual biology (though not necessarily accurate to reality).

The evpsych stuff is probably meant to highlight the absurdities of human behavior when seen from a "neutral" viewpoint, like the angle on the other aliens in the comic. At least that's how I choose to interpret it. It's funnier when he does it with aliens though.

Not-Plume is now almost certainly in deep datima feces. That sticker was undoubtedly put there by the husband, who underestimated the alien-ness of the aliens.
