They're like two suicide notes stuffed into a glitter bra

While I was setting up my pawn for Cake to use, I was thinking about the pawn inclination chat from previous pages. My main pawn switches between magic and bow classes pretty regularly, and I have her set up as guardian / scather. This is probably considered to be the worst pawn inclination for mages, but this is why I have it:

Arisen is usually an Assassin unless I'm trying to dragonforge gear for other classes. With main pawn as guardian / scather, she remains close to Arisen, who is at bow range and away from most of the melee combat. That's handled by support pawn fighters.

When enemies do get through, they are intercepted by the Arisen, leaving main pawn free to focus on casting. Scather as a secondary inclination was probably set to counter the glitchy pawn behavior where they sometimes wouldn't fire their bows, but as a caster it just means that she won't heal nonstop whenever someone uses a sliver of health.

I got my pawn back from StaticRook recently, if you read this would you comment on what you might remember of her performance?

Mega deal with it

But if you're an assassin, why would you be at bow range for longer than a few seconds anyways? The shortbow does higher damage the closer you are to the target, and most assassin bow skills aren't that great, especially not compared to a magick archer or ranger.

I make good use of the mohawk whenever I make a buff-rear end lady, of any race, really.

Anyone come across some really funny names? Right as I hit Everfall, in the first area where the game spawns random pawns walking around the first one I see is a chick in the skimpy bikini mail and her NPC name was "SomeHotBlond". I actually thought that was pretty clever.

It might be, Blanka had a move where he just chops down on someones face. gently caress now I want to remake my pawn to be a grapple happy mage who just casts lightning enchants all day.

Also does Warrior ever get to use more than 3 skills? Right now it just seems so boring to play, even if most of the skills are brutal as gently caress. And how does the Ranger do with multiple enemies? Kinda just want to have my main pawn beating the poo poo out of the big guys wile I gun down the little guys.

Unfortunately, no, Warriors are stuck with only those three slots. Pretty unfortunate, but if you can be satisfied with landing those brutal charge attacks, that's enough, I guess.
Rangers have a handful of nice skills they can use with their bows. One of the best ones is a large spread of arrows they get, Tenfold shot or something? I forget.

Endecad Shot is the one that fires in a fan pattern, Tenfold Flurry is the one where they fire ten arrows at once straight ahead.

Yeah, Tenfold Flurry is pretty focused and chews through enemies really fast. Endecad Shot fans the 10 shots out in a gigantic arc and is pretty useful against lots of weak enemies.

Bitey Face might be a reference to that much-beloved Resident Evil zombie journal. The Gossip's Mask feels almost compulsory on a character with such a moniker.

I think they show up in treasure chests found in/near the beefier bandit camps. There's one on a hill overlooking the road leading from the Hillfigure Knoll towards the Bluemoon Tower that is a good place to look.

Also, is it just me or do pawns with no inclinations at all seem to be unusually competent? The most versatile pawns I've used haven't had any, and when I gave my pawn a Neutralizing Elixer it's like she finally got a good night's rest or something.

Well, that's good to know. I mostly take pawns I have as friends/ones that are lower level than me so I don't use them much for that, and I've bought everything I wanted from the RC vendor.

Now, granted, I have a giant beefy male warrior pawn, which means he doesn't get rented nearly as much as scantily clad female healer mage pawns. :cheeky: We do have a circle that rents each others pawns out often though, and he's been rented enough otherwise-he goes through these strange bursts of people renting him. I guess when the Berserk/Fist of the North star fans come on they pick up up for awhile or something. But it's good to hear they'll have stuff to spend them on, and since I don't plan on blowing them on higher level non friend pawns I won't need 'em for much else except more unlockables. (Though I fear slightly for what sort of stuff they'll have for us to purchase with them in this vanity-wise.)

Do you guys spend any RC on higher level pawns?(is there anything else to spend it on?) I usually get ones that are 3 levels above me and then switch when I'm three levels above them. Is it worth it to just go splurge on a super high level guy? Will I really notice a huge difference?

Not really, stat gains from leveling drop lower after 100 (if we are talking that high), and anything above 50 will likely have post-game gear and maybe even Ur-Dragon weapons which will make way more difference than any number of levels. The only time I've ever used higher level pawns is when I hired goon pawns off my friends list.

So, I just beat the dragon last night after having gotten the game a week ago, and did a bit of the postgame (got up to 13 wakestones, probably won't make it to twenty before Tomb Raider comes out and pulls me away).

My overall impression was that the combat was very solid but everything else was pretty bad. The plot veered between incoherent and incomprehensible, and the pawn system was a neat idea but I almost never found myself really caring what pawns I had with me--as long as I had three warm bodies, one of which was a healer (which was covered by my main pawn), I was fine.

The best parts of the game were the first time you fought each boss. The game would have been pretty amazing as a straight up boss rush--the fights against the dragon and the postgame archhydra were both very memorable, as was the fight against two half-armored cyclopses while being bombarded with ballista bolts.

On the other hand if you're below 50 it is actually pretty cool to hire higher level pawns. I did it all the time and I found them to be noticeably more effective.

First hands-on preview.

  • New vendor can upgrade dragon-forged items. Called "Rarefying", not actually shown in the video.
  • Other new character can purify cursed items you can find, which costs Rift Crystals. This is pretty much the same as identifying an item in other games, since they're just called things like CURSED GEAR before purification.
  • There are accessories that improve a single skill. It's either the way to get 3rd tier skills, or a way of temporarily getting them without spending dcp.
  • Dialogue on par with Skyrim. "A FAVORITE GAME OF MINE, GUESSING THE LIFESPAN OF THOSE WHO ENTER THESE HALLS."

Does a solid LP of this game exist yet? Early on it was kinda comical and rough. People either didn't 'get' the game and fumbled around or they just dropped it midway in when they got bored.

Dark Souls? Not sure that counts as "open world" but I'm not sure why I'm only allowed to compare it to open world games.

I notice the only things you're praising are combat (which I said I liked and was good) or aesthetics (which were fine I'll admit). The plot is still nonsensical and the pawn system still needs an overhaul.

I'd say the quest system needs an overhaul, too. My first playthrough, which I abandoned so I could start fresh today, I had a quest that I couldn't complete. There was a map marker out in the woods en route to the fort you fight the two cyclops in, and I guess I was supposed to find some guy I'd already saved twice before. He never showed up anywhere. I kept checking back every few in-game days, but nope. Not in or around the bandit camp anywhere. Couldn't get rid of the quest, it never failed, dude just did not show up.

Fixing weird things like that and adding in proper fast travel would be lovely. Slogging back through long areas that don't have much in them aside from annoying wolf/harpy fights over and over got pretty tiresome pretty quick.

Practically all the game would need is a boat that goes between Gran Soren, Cassardis, some place out in the frontier, and up somewhere vaguely near the tower and travel would be perfectly fine.

Instead you have to go through that loving canyon both ways to get between the only two real towns in the game, every single time. And new quests pop in Cassardis/the wooden fort practically all the time throughout the game, too, just to piss you off.

The best part is that you aren't explicitly pointed out to the quest board in the fort. Man, my brother was so pissed off when I told him about it and he was 3/4ths of the way through :allears:

I don't think the plot is so bad as long as you take the last parts of the game as consisting of, like, the only relevant information. Everything else kinda gets thrown out.

You can buy a one time use item from the rift crystal vendor in the Encampment that will let you redo your pawn and Arisen. Although honestly, you're not missing too much, as the Arisen doesn't so much "emote" as "gape like a moron at everything".
