Grave Encounters 1 is a pretty by the numbers "haunted house" movie with poor focus but was somewhat entertaining. Grave Encounters 2 is the worst movie I saw this year so far. Its about unloveable frat kids. This movie is offensive to film as a medium. It features vomiting in a toilet, tea bagging drunks, UV vision enabled for farting, a crazy person eats rats (so crazy!), constant reminders that the cameraman loves pot, and zooming in on breasts. It seems to forget its a found footage film by adding musical notes to its jump scares and what I assume was scenes that were story boarded with scene after scene labeled as "make cg guy put something spooky here". Other lowlights include casper the ghost cameraman. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kdY_YXS_RQ I wish there was a way to take money from the makers of this film.

Its such a drat mess. Again my standards were pretty low going in, but the tea bagging and frat party did little to raise it. I started heading into Hangover 3 levels of loathing cinema. Pretty much the next thing I'll see will be magnified into outter space by comparison.

We watched the whole thing which says a lot, since legitimately well received films and television bores the poo poo out of us regularly. Yeah, in the first few minutes I was ready to dismiss it as "okay they made a piece of poo poo movie on purpose, I get it" but it's so much more than that. It's also not really a parody of bad kung-fu movies the way that, say, Black Dynamite is a parody of bad blaxploitation movies -- it's more a parody of parodies, if that makes sense? In either case it's a loving smart movie, as its type of humor is really difficult to pull off. There's also some downright incredible jokes in there, like Volume 3 and 4. If I had to compare it to anything it would probably be Tim & Eric, though nowhere near as hostile to the audience. Mechafunkzilla fucked around with this message at 21:02 on Mar 2, 2013 |

I just went to watch Safety Not Guaranteed on my PS3 and instead of going right into the movie it buffered up and played a House of Cards ad (skippable by hitting the X button). I hope this isn't a sign of things to come if Netflix keeps creating original content.

Thirst is weird. It began okay but then as it went on I started hating it more and more until the girl gets turned into a vampire at which point it starts getting better and better until it gets amazing. I've never really had a movie make that dramatic of a recovery before.

Much like how Richard Kelly's future work and director's cut of Donnie Darko showed that any cleverness in that movie was completely accidental, watching Quentin Dupieux poorly mimic Kaufman and Lynch without understanding how or why their stuff works really made me question any cleverness that could be mined from Rubber.

I really hated Rubber. I found it to be unbearable. The opening was pretty amusing but it then proceeds to tell the same, not nearly as clever as it thinks it is joke for an hour and a half. It's not even so much a joke as a smug winking nudge to the audience. It's like an hour and a half of Quentin Dupieux grinning at you and saying "Get it? Do you see what I'm going for? I don't think you get it. Do you get it now?"

I enjoyed Manhunter but not as much as Silence of the Lambs. Manhunter was more about the Will Graham character than Lecter or the Tooth Fairy which is fine but I can only watch so many quiet conversations between husband and wife before I get bored. Still Tom Noonan rocks and Chris Elliot showed up briefly. The soundtrack kinda rules.

Manhunter (1986)—"Zeller" CE: That was more difficult for me, in a way, just because I felt totally out of place there. I was cast through a casting agent who'd seen some article on me, and had told Michael Mann, "Oh yeah, it would be cool to have him in this movie," I guess. So I knew right from the start, "Oh, I really shouldn't be in this." The Abyss, I could put a little bit of my attitude from Letterman into the character. In Manhunter, I was supposed to be an FBI forensic investigator. And I don't know, I was 23 or 24 at the time, with a giant beard and long, stringy blonde hair—I just didn't look the part. I remember when the movie premièred, I appear in the scene where everybody's putting together the final information that leads to this killer, and the camera panned the table and cut to me, and there was this big blast of laughter from the audience that broke the whole tension of that scene. I can only imagine that Michael Mann was not happy about that.
