Seeing as this is apparently less creepy than the marketing was suggesting, what's the replay potential on the game beyond scooping up all the collectibles? Is it the usual lazy HERE'S A NEW DIFFICULTY thing, or is there any sort of NG+ / unlocks type of thing?

Disabling "Exclusive Full Screen" and "V Sync" fixed all my issues with my 670. Others have reported disabling tessellation helps too. Worth a try disabling them. I still get a minor 1 second freeze sometimes when the TR comes up, but I think they may be disguised loading screens in corridors rather than a result of the save.

Looks like VSync was the culprit, thanks!

There's not much replay value beyond collectables. It's a very linear game.

I'm not sure what to make of this. I'm really really impressed with the graphics. For anyone interested I have a C2Q 2.33ghz/4gb RAM/GTX460 and here is what it looks like http://imgur.com/a/92Jcl. On the other hand it is really linear so far with no logic puzzles, but that might just be because I've only played 3 hours. I also don't like watching a young girl go through all this trauma, call me sensitive but its a turn off. I much preferred it when Lara was a badass. Weird jumping physics too.

Best bit for me up to now was the Decent homage with Lara rising out of the pool of blood and gore. Or Apocalypse Now, if you want.

I didn't even think of Descent. Apolcaypse Now/Heart of Darkness were what instantly came to mind for me. Man, I need to watch those movies again.

The score in this game is something else; I love the track that plays near the end; where it rises from a discordant, foreboding sting to this frenetic, triumphant rhythm as Lara climbs the Ziggurat.

Love this game so far. Love how open the areas feel even if they ARE pretty linear - tons of hidden stuff and areas! Lara's VA is awful and my computer can barely run the game and if I turn hair detail to max the cutscenes slow down to a crawl but I don't even care - after putting it at max I couldn't go back to the old look. It's funny how some people are saying Tomb Raider tries to be Uncharted and failing. I would LOVE it if Uncharted tried to be more like Tomb Raider. Speaking of Uncharted - I'm pretty sure I heard Nolan North as the voice of some random enemy which made me laugh. It was also pretty hilarious how *spoilers for the first hour or so* five minutes after the infamous scene with the Russian guy who tries to strangle Lara she's already killed like a dozen guys. I definitely see some traces of old Lara in her!

Yeah, enemies seem about as fragile as Lara on Hard to me - I'm in the Shanty Town area at the moment and a lot of them are getting thrown at me, but they're all going in fairly brief bursts.

But goddammit, between this and Far Cry 3 I'm so annoyed there's not an Adventure: Crazy loving Totally Not-Rambo Survivalist game. Flesh out the hunting, give me some space to work with, etc, I'd be in a dream world.

How important is hunting in this game? In Farcry 3, it was pointless after upgrading everything.

32-bit executables can only use 2 gigs of memory, or 3 gigs if you set the large address aware flag on them.

Same with me re performance on a very similar rig - smooth and beautiful after I turned down shadows.

And I agree about the intensity - this is one time where a trigger warning is warranted, that first choking scene holy gently caress. Especially as it's a difficulty spike so you might have to go through it a few times.

Does anyone know if there is some graphic option that steals a lot of resources without making much of a difference?
I can run the game on the "Normal" setting but it's pretty sluggish on my computer but I don't want to loose too much detail...
I have a AMD X4 3,20GHz CPU and a Geforce GTX 460 GPU and 4 gigs of RAM.

edit: Hope NVIDIA releases some new drivers soon. They are usually pretty quick and the new drivers usually make quite a difference!

This game would be a lot better if the platforming wasnt so miserable. Its not like they cant do it, their older Tomb Raider games were fine and the challenge tombs show glimpses of it

Just finished the game; really, really impressed. Easily one of my favourite games of the last year or two. Hopefully this sells well enough to warrant a full-fledged franchise revival.

That's my system and I'm going at about 40-50 fps. I turned shadows down from ultra to normal (and maybe hair to low?)that made things much smoother. Experiment with the benchmark tool in options, it's actually very good.

Also, Nvidia does have some beta drivers so you could download them - look in 'beta and legacy' on the nvidia site.

Cool, thanks! I'm stubbornly refusing to put the hair option to anything below max, though. I tried it out once and couldn't go
back to the lifeless lump of the other settings. I did try lowering it and didn't notice much difference, though. I'll try experimenting
with the shadows!

You will fail if you hit the key when the shrinking circle is outside of the trigger circle, but otherwise any time when it's inside as long as it hasn't completely shrunk will work.

Depth of Field from Ultra to Normal made a 20 FPS difference for me and didn't seem that noticeable visually. The goofy hair stuff was huge performance-wise as well.

Edit: This game is not showing up as 'Controller Supported' in Big Picture Mode. Does the store page need to be updated for this to work correctly? Is this common?

It has both controller support and support for big picture mode. The store page thing is someone's oversight.

Make sure that the weapon you want to use is the last one you've equipped/used. If you use a melee attack, etc. etc. after equipping a weapon, it defaults to the axe for the execution, just quickly swap to your pistol, say, right before hitting y and it should register.

I really like the mix of ranged enemies, enemies that flush you out (dynamite/molotovs), and enemies that just loving bum rush you. It really helps make combat more a frantic mix of throwing dirt everywhere and firing wildly instead of just hiding behind one piece of cover for an entire fight.

I like that they don't tend to let up either. Sometimes they'll just come thick and fast and you and you'll have to scrabble and improvise to avoid damage. It's a really frenetic dynamic.
