New Pig Destroyer EP Pig Destroyer just up and dropped a "new" EP on us yesterday called Mass & Volume and it's doomy as gently caress. It's two tracks at about 26 minutes, recorded at the end of the Phantom Limb sessions when they found themselves with a day of studio time left over. It crushes. edit; also, Blake plays bass on it, so there's that Happy Hippo fucked around with this message at 04:18 on Mar 7, 2013 |

Baron Von Ghoulosh posted:I haven't listened to the metal melodies of Soilwork (or melodic death metal for that matter) since they released Figure Number Five in 2003 or 2004? I'm gonna get in the old time machine and listen to their new album after hearing some praises. Has anyone else gave it a go? I'm listening to it currently but I find that a good portion of it is completely forgettable, which I have found to be a common case with bands like Soilwork, At the Gates, and Dark Tranquillity.

I need some motivation to go see Black Tusk tomorrow in spite of the 6-10" of snow that's supposed to fall during the show. I missed them play with RED FANG at the same venue (an hour south in Boston) a few months back, ugh. I'm a southerner whose pussy gets all dry and sandy when the snow starts falling.

I can't really get into the new Soilwork. It all blends together and there's no tracks that really stand out. Bummer, because I sorta liked The Panic Broadcast.

Tribulation - The Formulas of Death finally arrived. It's pretty awesome. Lots of great decompressed noodly bits, and they completely nailed the production. It's also sort of amusing and awesome how totally different it is from The Horror.

So, Chris Bowes from Alestorm has this side project going on, here's their first single: http://youtu.be/VTW30Q4B3Go Don't click if you're allergic to cheesy europower. I was really expecting something more outrageous and over-the-top, but it's still a catchy song I guess. Vocals aren't half bad.

The tangible physical product aspect I miss a little but that's greatly outweighed by the convenience of mp3s. One thing that's changed is I mainly listen to music at home these days. In the car it's either NPR or occasionally the classical station on the radio.

Arkham Witch are pretty decent, obvious comparisons are Isen Torr, Pagan Altar, Hour of 13, Vestal Claret, Briton Rites, but try Demon's Gate, Doomed Beast, Convent Guilt, Superchrist and well, The Lamp of Thoth too.
