I wouldn't go that far. I can access the Internet just fine, but sometimes it's nice to sit out in the yard on a sunny day and read an actual physical book or magazine.

The last few posts reminded me of old Tiger Direct flyers/sales magazines from the late 90's and early 2000's. There was a stack of them in the physics building on campus in a break room near one of my classes, so I'd go in there and flip through them while waiting for the other class to leave/on a mid-class break. Some of the stuff in there was so freakin' awesome at the time, and so freakin' expensive. What's that? A 16MB "jump drive" for only $150? And you obviously have to install the drivers for it on every PC you use it for? Sign me the gently caress up!

Is there anything more 90's than Columbia House? I used to love getting those "pick 8 CD's for only one cent!" and putting the little stamps in the boxes. I even convinced my parents to let me do it one time, but of course the small print is that "you have to order 8 more CD's, and if you don't send back this slip every month, you get this CD of the month which may or may not suck". I was 13 and had no income, so paying for CD's was impossible, and finding a stamp was a chore, so there was a lot of "return to sender" written on those boxes. Now that jingle is stuck in my head.

None of my friends seem to remember Space Cases on Nickelodeon, a really bad, low-budget, sci-fi/space opera/comedy kids show from the mid-90s. I loved the poo poo out of this when I was like 10, but watching it now is just painful. I'm trying to remember a game we had in the computer lab of my elementary school. It would have been 1998 or 1999, because I think I was in 5th or 6th grade. The game had something to do with inventing stuff to...I dunno. For science, let's say. One part was building a Rube-Goldberg-esque mousetrap with levers and gears and conveyor belts and poo poo. Another mini game was building a custom plane out of different segments, and then flying it over a few different landscapes to test it out. One was like, a lava world or something. Also, the host of the game was a stereotypical late 90s CG nerdy-scientist type with big ears, I think.

 I remember the Pokémon trading card game was the probably the most popular permutation of the franchise when I was in school. This was the first theme deck I owned and I remember how we could go to the second counter at the back of the local newsagent where they had this ring binder full of rare cards (Team Rocket's Dark Gyarados, Misty's Seadra, that sort of thing). Honestly, I know loads of people still love the series, but Pokémon in general is campy nineties poo poo I'm still kinda nostalgic for. It never ceases to amaze me how massive it was for a couple of years. How many multi-media sensations have we seen since Pokémon that reached the same scale of success? For that matter, how many anime movies ever enjoyed as much success outside Japan as Pokémon: The First Movie? I can't imagine it's a very long list.
