If things are bad, it's because Obama caused sequestration. If they are good, it's because sequestration cut government spending and that means unleashing the invisible hand etc.

edit: it does seem like everybody, conservative or liberal, who is looking at it in any kind of mathematical way agrees sequestration will hurt the economy, though, when they argue it's about degree.

From what I've heard, the kind of cancer he had was the kind where top medical treatment means living an extra 6 months or a year, instead of others where prompt medical treatment means you live another 20.

Besides, those Cuban doctors aren't exactly slouches in their training.

Yea, if he went to Mayo or something he maybe could have had an extra few months, but he had the kinda cancer that is the super scary 'welp need to get my will in order' kind, he was going to die of it soon no matter what country he went to.

MD Anderson is where you'd want to go generally speaking, which is why all the wealthy cancer death datelines read HOUSTON TX (e.g. Hitch), though specialists in specific types of cancer can be at any medical center in the world. You have to admire him not even trying to go to America, though. I mean I'm sure he would think they'd be trying to kill him anyway, but he was true to the end.

I phrased my statement poorly. It's even better than that. He doesn't just shout a random word out of context. He starts shouting in the middle of a sentence with no build up, and it is hysterical to hear him lose it like that. I can't even type a hypothetical example because when I do, I inevitably put the emphasis on the words you'd think someone yelling would emphasize, but Levin will just yell out a word in an otherwise perfectly calm and collected sentence.

Maureen Dowd got in trouble for something similar. She said a friend gave her a line that turned out to be verbatim from TPM's website.

Taking these people at their words, is it really that much better to say "Oh, well I'm just publishing chunks of my researcher's reports and not crediting them"? Sure, the researcher knows the score and has apparently agreed to ghost-write part of Williams' column, but in this job market, it's exploitative.

Speaking of Mark Levin, I listened to him last night while he was interviewing one of his Great American True Conservative buddies from Fox News. I can't remember who it was, but the two of them were attempting to engage each other in friendly banter, and good loving lord was it awkward. You can tell these are the most insecure people in the world, because every time they poke fun at each other there's a noticeable pause while they try to figure out whether they've been insulted or not in what is supposed to be a friendly interview between peers. The best part was when the guest started mocking Levin's voice, which obviously irritated Levin, so that by the end of the interview I couldn't tell if these guys were friends or professional arch enemies.

And those who do it for this reason are heroes. But y'all who're just driving home from work or doing poo poo in the warehouse listening to Rush seems a whole different category. How can you listen to him for extended periods for no reason and not be affected? He feels like poison to me and I'd listen to pretty much anything else on the radio than right wing radio. Maybe I'm too lucky.

Well, in my case, since I started the thread, I feel somewhat obliged to know what these people are saying. Another part of curiosity along the lines of "what will he say next" and "how can they spin this into a negative" or try to blame it on liberals, whatever it is that day. It's a little bit like what made Howard Stern so popular, where even the people that hated him listened. Then again, at least Howard was funny for the most part.

Another part of me is just genuinely curious to know what so many of my neighbors and co-workers are on about on a given day and where they're getting their information. Most right wing types don't know what to think about a news article until Rush and Sean tell them what to think. They're usually pretty quiet about an immediate news story, but let it bake for a day and allow the talking points to resonate and those same people start to have very strong opinions on the matter. The fact that they're someone else's opinions is beside the point.

I can't stand to listen to too much of it either, but I force myself to just to know where my father in law is coming up with whatever poo poo he's spewing that day. I'm also not sure why today's (good) job numbers were bad, made up or attributable to Rand Paul and the sequester or whatever but I'm sure I'll know by tomorrow.

He intended to come across as opening the floodgates to republicans to stand their ground or be aggressive, but it really just came off as though he was legitimately shocked Obama hadn't marched into the Capitol Building at the head of a squadron of praetorian national guardsmen.

Yes, Rush, no one has been brave enough to attack the president except nearly every Republican currently in Congress and most major media outlets.

But I am getting ahead of myself here.

It just really irks me to see these people play off of others' fears and ignorance, feed this great big hate machine we've had to deal with for decades, making money and living like the kings whom them so constantly complain about, living nice long lives. All the while the people they are 'championing' for are getting played like suckers, still living day to day, paycheck to paycheck, and propogating the ignorance and hate that they absorb onto future generations. It makes me depressed.
