Edit: Tonight confirms that I have to reinstall a Windows 7 partition to get Hotline Miami to not crash consistently. Got up to Assault but had a crash on the top floor because of too many gunshots being fired. Was on track to save probably around 10 minutes, too.

MTPO is an astoundingly cruel game, Sinister had a run today where he got a 43 on Hippo, he was 16 ahead going into the world circuit, loses a bunch on Soda, loses more on Flamenco, he's down 5, gets a 2:20 on sandman and is ahead again by like 6 seconds, then Macho gives him the absolute worst pattern ever and he loses like 36 seconds.

So even if every fight had gone right and he had been ahead he still would have lost it all on Macho, that is just so demoralizing.

That's putting it much more politely than I would. Still wondering what kind of person wakes up one morning and says "you know what I'm gonna do today? Write erotic incest-with-rape-overtones fanfiction about two characters in a terrible movie about a video game!" and finishes that thought with "this is a great idea!" instead of "dear me, I think I must have gone completely batshit insane just now. Maybe I should see a specialist or something!"

Going for the any% WR in Paper Mario over here soon (practicing skips first). My last run wasn't that great and came within 45 seconds of it at final bowser. There was also a new skip discovered yesterday that can save up to 1 minute 20 seconds, so if I can get a solid run in it should be possible.

Got the Paper Mario any% WR by a little over a 30 seconds (will probably be beat by headstrong or anatomyz in their first run with the new skip thoughZ)! My stream just completely died on final Bowser though which was really disappointing.

Has anyone had a problem with OBS where the stream will just die, then when you try to restart it you get an invalid stream key error?

New skip found by headstrong yesterday. Couple videos showing it off here and here. Saves about a minute if done well and maybe 1:15 if done perfectly. 2nd video you need to do because that badge is needed for final Bowser.

If anyone missed the speedrun+erotic fanfiction stream last night, I got a ridiculous Doom64 any% time of 39:21 at the end of the night. I owe it to impse.cx

As someone who knows BoI inside and out, I honestly can't see the appeal of speedrunning it. Unless you're just going fast for fun it basically amounts to "Did I start next to the secret room with We Need To Go Deeper? No? Restart."

Also I watched him play last time and he wasn't really that good at all, even by my low standards. :geno:

That's pretty wrong though it's actually spawning near a secret room with Epic Fetus that's important for speedrunning. We Need To Go Deeper seems almost entirely useless for speedrunning, in fact.

For the sake of the marathons I think the point is to clear the game skillfully in a normal fashion, not necessarily to race as fast as possible. There is then a large chunk of how the run goes being left up to RNG but for a skilled player only the very worst of item combos should do a run in(and even then not necessarily and only with certain characters) but Rane is average at best at the game and thus makes it very boring and awful to watch.

And I should add that getting Epic Fetus is equally as boring, too. Great for speedrun, not to watch and again, I think this is a game that can be fun to watch from a marathon standpoint without needing to break records to make it so. A good and/or interesting combo of items and some dickish rng from rooms/enemies would make it a neat event but I suspect none of that will happen as long as Rane is running the game.

The Binding of Isaac. It is a terrible game to speedrun at a marathon because every floor, item drop (of which there are over 100), enemy spawn, and most boss spawns are drawn at random.

As long as Uyama is running the marathons he is determined to get Demon Rush into one. I really think the marathons are too big to be sliding in-jokes into the marathon, especially when it's a five-hour game. Star Ocean 3 is a much better choice for a long game (the estimate would be a full hour shorter I'm pretty sure).

As for Isaac, I don't mind Rane's streams of it when he does them, but the AGDQ Isaac run seemed to be poorly received, and I get that he wants "revenge" on it but I don't think it's a good idea to revisit it.

From what I understand the googledoc is games that are already considered "approved until cut", so if the schedule gets packed some other games on that list might be removed, but it's not just a collection of offered runs.

Yeah, I figured that what was wanted was a comparison versus Garrison's run, i.e. RTA vs RTA. :) (or as close as TASes get to RTA timing, that is.)

Though I really need to re-watch that glitched run, it's great.

I will donate during Demon Rush and watch it live even if it starts at 4am and I have to take a day off work to do so.

This list honestly looks a bit lacking, I know SGDQ tends to be smaller, but not having a single Mario or Zelda game seems really odd. No NES/SNES Castlevanias either. There's still a lot I'd watch, but those games strike me as pretty accessible to people who don't usually follow speedruns and would find out about the run via other means.

I do wish there was an Awful Games Done Quick exclusive marathon, no big event, just passing off the twitch to different runners like the Japan Relief event was.

Edit: Oh, it's super preliminary. That works too!

That would be awesome, considering BoI is one of those games where the World Record run is nowhere near as entertaining as a race. Maybe I should offer up a run or 30 of Rom Check Fail. At least in that game you can manipulate the RNG to feel like a real speedrunner.

Silly thing is I'm not even close to the best BoI runner on SRL (that's probably Hyphenated) it's just that Rane is really kinda bad.
