I don't think anyone's mentioned that The Ocean Blue are releasing their first new album in 14 years. Cerulean is one of my favorite albums of the 90s and I hope the new one is just as good. Check out some of their old singles and the first one off the new album here: http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2013/03/the_ocean_blue.html

They played in Birmingham (which is closer to me than ATL) a few years ago, and I didn't know until the day of the show. I can't miss it this time! As for a different band, I've been following Givers since Ceiling of Plankton (http://youtu.be/GZLtK0S3Pj4) showed up on one of the indie rock playlists back in early 2010, and I'm just so proud of them! They're out of Lafayette, LA, influenced by (and have played in) the cajun and zydeco scene there. They've had a song in a Kindle Fire advert, on Glee, and other stuff, so they're pretty well known, but despite that, I don't hear people talking about them very often. So, some music: This is Up Up Up, which is super dancy and fun (and probably their most well-known): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__JVXlWFa3o And my favorite song from their (only so far) album, Ripe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbJFl8usXq8 And one of the stranger videos I've seen. They did an NPR tiny desk concert, but everyone except male lead singer Taylor Guarisco looks bored, and Taylor makes some... weird faces. Especially in the last song, total o-face going on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNA3v08ygu8 I just really, really like them, and every time I see them playing in Mobile or Bham or Atlanta, I'm filled with sadness, because I never have time to go see them

I saw them in Nashville at Exit/In a year or so ago and they kicked a pretty good amount of rear end. Hadn't heard of them before hand, but my parents like to go see random acts so we ended up there. Taylor makes a lot of those faces live, and it seems like a lot of the live show is structured around giving Tiffany different things to do. Its kind of weird watching her play, as she's got a string instrument, keyboard, and a glockenspiel on stage.

Definitely more solid than Angles and maybe even a bit better than First Impressions of Earth. Edit: Eh, changed my mind as I listened through the whole thing again. It's not very good and kind of incohesive. Salo fucked around with this message at 23:01 on Mar 18, 2013 |

The new Knife album, Shaking the Habitual, is rumored to have a couple tracks on it inspired by Margaret Atwood's "Oryx and Crake." I think this is pretty great, since their song Neverland always reminded me of the book. If they ever make an Oryx and Crake movie, I hope The Knife feature heavily on the soundtrack.

Psychedelia-Punk outfit Deerhunter officially announced their 5th official LP, Monomania. And it's coming out May 7th. They describe the album's sound as 'nocturnal garage', and apparently Bradford Cox had two hundred and fifty songs stockpiled for the album. Which on one hand is insane, but on the other hand it's been three years since Halcyon Digest and Bradford Cox is a music making machine (and also insane.) Here's the artwork, which would fit a 'nocturnal garbage' album. Automata 10 Pack fucked around with this message at 07:10 on Mar 24, 2013 |

Huh. Cloak and Cipher came out at in August 2010 so it's not that unusual they haven't done anything since. I know Liz Powell has had vocal problems in the past, though, so maybe that has something to do with it.

It's not unusual for no new albums to come out in that time frame but as far as I know they haven't done anything since then. No tours, no interviews, no social media interaction, nothing. It makes me sad as I didn't know about them until after their last tour.

The only album of theirs I have is Like Vines, but I really dig it. I didn't hear anything about them after a while. I didn't even know they'd released an album in '08. This new song is different. It's not bad at all, but it's not particularly good either. The reason I liked Like Vines so much is that, while they sounded like other similar bands at their core, they had this style that set them apart from their peers, and in many cases, put them above the rest. I'm not feeling that so much with this one. I'll reserve judgement on the album until I hear the whole thing, though.
