Out of all the horrible studio produced posters we've seen in this thread, that Wolverine one is the absolute worst. At some point, more than one person saw that and thought "This is acceptable". Holy poo poo this is the epitome of lazy design.

OGB posted:But this one...oh good lord. They're clearly aping Marvel Comics covers that have "Wolverine surrounded by ninjas" as a staple, but holy gently caress is this one not working. It's partially because of the terrible terrible photoshop job they did in taking Hugh Jackman's head onto that "generic post" body, and the fact that every Ninja on that cover isn't actually concerned with Wolverine as the biggest threat in the room. He just looks like he's about to throw down some sick dance moves at some lovely Otaku dance party. Examples of how not to gently caress this very basic concept up: The Granddaddy of them all by Frank "not joking he's actually insane" Miller from the 80s: The more prototypical cover from the 90s: The splash page inside one of the books from the 00s: And the ever popular "this is overdone" humor variant by Frank Cho: I found all of these within 15 minutes using standard GIS and "Wolverine ninja" as my search term. Whoever Fox puts in charge of their marketing for X-Men posters is either lazy as gently caress or they're banking on fans talking about how terrible it is as an excuse to be lazy as gently caress.

Why make a poster like that and then just have the ninjas looking around as if Wolverine's either not there or he's their leader? I'm guessing the answer is "no one wanted to spare the time and money to photograph our ninja actors in kind of a circular melee setup, but the studio bosses still demanded Wolverine in a ninja melee, and that's not really something you can photoshop out of a series of google searches so gently caress you, here you go."

That's not an especially new or controversial take on the genre though. Haven't watched the trailer, but there's something almost terrifyingly triumphant about the poster. I was off the mark with Occupy, though. The black and white one particularly strikes me of a bastardization of this sorta thing:
