NitroSpazzz posted:Am I seeing things or is the gas tank on that bike just a metal gas can (jerry can?) strapped to the frame? That seems way too small to be a fuel tank. Looks more like a fire extinguisher or a bottle of nitrous oxide? Or maybe it is the fuel tank and it's just got really short range.

Just so everyone understands, that is a Vincent sidecar with a homemade nitrous injection system, and a homemade pneumatic automated gearbox that uses compressed air stored in the tubular frame. That's what that thing is.

I was riding out to my usual roads today when I decided to follow a group of bikes instead. So glad I did, I found some awesome roads much closer than the area I usually go to. I followed them for about 30-45 mins and found out apparently there was some big biker meet-up in Hillsboro (Oregon) today. Not nearly all the bikes are visible here, pretty much the entire parking lot was full of them. Riding with other bikers ahead of me is much nice because 1. I can tell what the corner ahead of me is going to be based on how far they're leaned and 2. Oncoming cars driving like a jackass over the center line will hopefully only endanger the first guy in the pack and then get in his lane before I wind up passing them. Found tons of great riding and had a lot of fun. I had multiple opportunities to stop and talk to some guys but being a goon, naturally, I didn't. Also I observed today that it was guys on sporty dual sports who were hauling the most rear end and generally being hooligans.

Rev. Dr. Moses P. Lester posted:Is that a bolt-on hardtail mod? Basically.... They are struts that take the place of shocks so the owner can pretend that they are hard corps. Not only is it a stupid mod, it is, eventually, dangerous. The swingarm bikes are not meant to be rigid and I have seen more than one crack a frame or a motor mount because they were running struts. It is the mental equivalent of removing the front fender (but not the mounts) so you can pretend your bike is a bobber.... which is another very popular mod. And yes, I am a long time Harley guy who owns 2 right now.

If you look closely at the picture it's clearly been allowed to get wet. As a Ducati, it retains no value.

Specifically that looks like rain. Ducati are fine with their bikes getting wet by approved methods, e.g. washing, so long as it is done by qualified personnel. Much like oil standards they have their own qualification codes for washing technicians, typically a C rating or above, say, 34C, 36DD etc. A qualified technician hard at work:

It measures fork travel over time, to be combined with the rest of the data collected. It is the very expensive version of "zip tie around the fork leg to measure maximum fork travel" Those brake discs are Braking SK2's I believe. Rotors that mere mortals can afford. Says a lot about how they perform. I have a chinese copy of that rotor that I got duped into buying hanging in my garage E: They're Galfers, but the point stands. Speaking of wavey discs the Honda NC700 continues to be clever:quote:And those wave disc brakes? Both discs are stamped out of the same stainless steel sheet at the same time to save money, and the mounting holes of the larger front disc mandate the indentations around the perimeter of the smaller rear disc. That the discs are fashionable is an added bonus. I really like this bike. Only thing that bugs me is that the swing arm looks quite long. Makes it stick out somewhat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTOy5wZWKJQ I'd get it with a manual though.

I'm demoing one as soon as the dealer gets it in. I hope they have the DCT, because I've never tried one. If it's good, I'd go with that over the manual. Technology must progress.

Very tempting to do the Portland Alley Sweeper Urban Enduro this year. https://vimeo.com/40034348 Not sure my ZX-14 is the best choice, though. It's heavy, slick tires, I'd probably drop it, and people often report getting tire punctures and I don't really want to fork over hundreds of dollars to replace a tire or broken plastics. 4/20, trade me your 250 for my 14 that weekend! I'll bring it back in fewer than three pieces. hayden. fucked around with this message at 03:54 on Mar 26, 2013 |
