My two favorite artists ever are Bowie and QotSA so this is pretty much the best year ever for me. Josh Homme's one of those rare guys who constantly evolves with every new album he does so I'm loving stoked to hear Queens again. TCV was amazing and so was Heart On, but something just feels really loving great about a true return to his home turf.

You're missing the best collaborator, OP: Josh Freese's dad on tuba. Josh said it's due out before Download, so it's likely to be the 3rd or the 10th.

gently caress yeah. I was just watching Sound City the other night, and when Josh Homme was on screen, I kept wondering when the next QOTSA album was due out. It's been far too long since Era Vulgaris.

Can't wait, Homme has yet to let me down with any of his albums or projects. Kinda curious that Oliveri is coming back into the fold though. He was originally kicked out of the band for abusing his girlfriend (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dk2lB7oAwBY) and two years ago Oliveri got in a loving hostage stand-off with a SWAT team. It'll be interesting to see if Josh comments on his relationship with Nick at all.

Wanted to post it first but wasn't sure what to say aside from Finally. Hit F5. And OH MY GOD JUNE YES YES THAT'S MY BIRTHDAY MONTH. THANK YOU FOR THE GIFT, MR. HOMME. I'm pumped. The time between this and Era Vulgaris was the longest yet, I believe. I mean sure, we got Them Crooked Vultures in 09 but this sounds like it's going to absolutely crush. I cannot wait for the first song/single.

This has made my day and also my summer. There's nothing better than putting on QotSA on a hot day, rolling down the windows, and doing some highway driving. It's been, what, 6 years since the last one? The wait sounds worth it from the quality of the clips. And oh god it has Mark Lanegan. This album is going to be amazing.

Those clips all sound loving amazing. I can't even begin to imagine what Elton John is doing on this album but I'd wager it's on that 3rd clip with the nightmarish choral.

I'm really pumped about this, and also really curious. When Them Crooked Vultures came out, I sort of realized that maybe I don't need more QOTSA albums. Josh Homme (and pretty much everyone he works with) is the kind of guy who will always be making music somewhere, and it's going to take on other forms, and so it's not like if QOTSA went away their talent would be gone forever. They'd just be off doing different things. So with a new QOTSA album, I guess I'm expecting something that really, definitively "sounds like QOTSA". Otherwise it could just be called something else. In fact, as much as I like Era Vulgaris, in hindsight it sounds to me more like a precursor to Them Crooked Vultures than a real QOTSA album. That's not a slight against it in any way, just a perception of its style. So, I'm intrigued.

It was the band's "goodbye to Layne" song so it was pretty emotional for the group and they wrote a letter to Elton asking if he'd play on it.
