On the list of things that went wrong with the Invasion that would be way down the list, and whatever it lost in terms of business it made up in terms of me seeing a guy who is a shithead get buried, so I don't care. I don't think there was much money in that match in 2001 anyway.

Here he does commentary on a match he had in Japan that many of you may not have seen. He's joined by Louie from DDP's crew. Looking forward to more of these videos - Hall tells funny stories from the road and you can tell it really helps him to relive some of this stuff. Or in some cases see it for the first time sober since he doesn't remember even being there.

Everyone else has these great memories of all the matches and angles he did and how fun his characters were, but he did so much damage to himself that it's all a blur. Definitely glad he got help from DDP though and I hope he turns around like Jake did

It's crazy how much of the short stick Tazz got in the WWE. Probably mostly because he was short. I know probably the majority of you guys reading this just know him as the annoying color commentator that ruins broadcasts. But, before that, that dude was f'n awesome as a wrestler. He had a great build going into the WWE, but then came the last second employment of Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko, and Perry Saturn and he got buried in that wake in the hardcore division and proceeded to do nothing until his WWF Champion vs. ECW Champion match, and then did nothing forever, and became a commentator and then the Alliance thing happened and he had a solid match with Tajiri at Invasion and then the hugely teased feud with Austin, and then back to the commentary table. Dude could have been more. But, blame has to be placed also on probably his health care after his neck injury early in the ECW days against Dean Malenko, yup. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtuH3Bwy9bk 89 fucked around with this message at 13:35 on Mar 24, 2013 |

Yeah, I mean, it wasn't the biggest loss in the Invasion, but the guy was still super-over from ECW. They could have capitalized on that and at least turned the biggest angle failure in history into...a smaller failure.

There just wasn't a seat for Taz at the top table in WWE at that time. He wasn't at that level. Maybe they could have saved his pride (if he feels hurt by it, which I severely doubt) by stringing it out to 10 minutes rather than 2 minutes, but there's no way anyone would have bought anything but a loss to Stone Cold. He was working in an era where The Rock, Stone Cold, Taker, HHH, Angle and Jericho were running the show. The difference between them and Taz was huge.

Not that you're wrong with that, but didn't Tazz make his WWF debut by choking out Angle in a match?

Oh, I'm not saying they needed a top run for Taz, just if they had given him a decent match instead of being squashed, they could have got a few more buys from Philly fans.

Does anyone remember that Bret Hart promo, late in his WWE run when he was running the New Hart Foundation, where he talks about taking these men down to hell to fight the devil himself, and have their hearts beat for his or something? I think he took it from a famous book, but I cant remember enough of the quote to google it. Does anyone know where I can find a clip of that promo? Would be appreciated.

Yeah, I could only make it about a 1/4 of the way through that video before I had to stop. It's really loving unsettling to watch. But like, can't the guy just wailing on whoever is down stop and be like, "yeah, I've beaten this guy up enough," and not get penalized or whatever? It's really loving uncomfortable to see.

I think a good number of those 'early' stoppages were pretty drat right on and if left for a few more seconds would have fit right into the 'late' stoppage category. Just because someone pops right back up and screams and yells that he's fine doesn't mean he wasn't done. I mean, for example, that Tito / Shamrock one... what the hell did they want, him looking like he did after the Franklin mauling? I mean, yeah it's Ken and all, but still, Tito blasting him a few more times and he's stumbling around looking like Hominick. As for the late stoppages... man, that's the poo poo that gives the sport a bad name. And it's even worse when the fighter laying the beating is visibly pissed at what he had to do. I'll always, always take an early stoppage over a late stoppage because in at least 90 per cent of the 'early' stoppages they were pretty right on. The late ones are just terrible to watch and give ammunition to the kind of antiquated fuckers keeping the sport out of not only the greatest venues but entire states and provinces.
