You heard it here first folks. Space Hunter 5 episodes from now :v:

That gave me an idea. You should give a vague hint about the next planned episode in the pipeline now and then, similar to what the show does.
Might help break up people arguing about silly things and build some hype/discussion.

Of course, the people the art style tends to attract dont care about how deep and good the fighting itself is. As overdone and boring as 'generic buff punch man' is, chances are people would play the drat game if it had those!

That game could be the most fun thing ever created by a human and I would still never buy it.

So, I've been slowly getting more and more people into the series. So much so, that i now have a spreadsheet built to keep track of the games played, the segments in the episode, and system. This includes all the specials and bonus episodes.

It's been quite useful in keeping track of what they've watched, what has stuff they like, and what they want to see next.

This, separate from the event i do at the local game store i work at, where a group of us watch an episode, then try to beat the game (usually a futile effort) afterwards.

Just to share some recent experiences!

Actually they're both anime, your example is just older and a robot. I think you're just getting a bit upset up over not much of anything.

I'm not a big anime fan myself, but I also don't get all worked up over what the characters look like and boycott games because of it. That's pretty much how all anime characters look these days, I think you'd be hard pressed to find an old looking character in most shows. They're not even showing anything in that example, it's pretty tame as far as anime goes.

I don't know anything about the game, so maybe it treads into the territory of those creepy sex games with obvious 10 year olds (which would be understandable), but I'm not seeing anything like that from the cheerleader pic there.

But I personally am squicked by the image of which you speak, so what do you mean it's normal by the metrics of anime at large, mister? It's obviously so repulsive and extreme I need to bust out hyperbole. :colbert:

I'm not a big fighter fan, but that looks pretty technically interesting. Seems to have a lot of vertical movement as well.

I'd say that if you have any case against it, it would be the sounds. That cacophony of japanese girls wailing does get a bit grating after a while.
Maybe it would be less so if I could understand them. I wonder what they're yelling about?

If it's anything like every other fighter, it's all just fight-grunts and fight-phrases. Hiding that stuff behind a language barrier is a step up, I think.

I own Arcana Heart 1 & 3, Aquapazza & Golden Fantasia X. they're pretty decent fighters although I prefer less spastic stuff like kof/sf. I wouldn't want the cast of every fighter to look like that but it's ok if a few do. Also have both Otomedius games. It's a bit strange looking at my 360 shmup collection as it looks like a bunch of visual novels but if that's what's needed to give those companies extra revenue through merchandising so they can keep making 2D shooters then I think it's a reasonable compromise.

I agree! If I hear a game is really bad it's an incentive rather then a deterrent. Recently I really enjoyed Vampire Rain and the combat sections of Deadly Premonition (they're fine with an infinite melee weapon, don't know what people were complaining about) & when I watched the Paris Dakar Rally GCCX ep I really wanted to try it out the whole time.

From what I've heard it's actually a decent JRPG series despite the fanservice, although the first game is pretty clunky. There's an ongoing Let's Play of the first one here.

Oh no, this is pretty mild obviously. I was just thinking that despite being a silly derail and everyone going :gonk: we're all watching a show hosted by a guy who at least used to watch cartoon porn himself to the degree he can still remember details about it (or at least could back in 2005). In any other context pitchforks would've been brought out of the shed a long time ago.

Thanks to his endearing personality it's merely entertaining, of course.

The problem with that line of thinking is that they're pushing away the people who won't tolerate it. They're not going around on message boards complaining, they're just not buying it. That starts a feedback loop of targeting an ever shrinking group of people.

I had that same motivation and a friend actually bought me the game as a semi-joke gift when it dropped to 20€ here in Germany. I haven't played more than a few hours of it but "go away, thundertits!" might be my favorite bit of video game dialogue ever. Ironically the setting and sheer dumbness of the game would keep me playing but the mechanics are bad.

I know what you mean but looking at the sales of those games stuff like deathsmiles and otomedius sold quite well while the more straightforward shooters (shooting love 200x and the like) sold very little. I got the impression that there were 'fans' out there who might not even play the games but buy them anyway along with a windia's dark urine drink and maybe a body pillow. The more hardcore among them might even grab a few copies of the same title at different shops for a variety of bonus phone cards. I'd like to think however deluded it might be that shooter fans will want new shooters no matter what and those Otaku are just a bonus.

I can only really speak for myself, I just want every new japanese developed 2D shooter that comes out. That's how I found out about Game Center CX, looking at DS shooters, noticing Star Prince, checking out the TV-Nihon subs and years later being completely spoiled by you guys.

I've seen both the first and second game.

The first is a BAD RPG with redeeming dialogue and jokes. Not really enough, but good enough. There is a little fanservice in there but no more then any other Anime RPG.

The second is when Inafune joined the team I believe, he completely reworked some aspects of the fighting system and made the fighting not terrible. So the good parts of it shine more then before. Also it helps that the characters don't look like how they do on the box for like 95% of the game.

I have no clue about the Third game though.

EDIT: We should probably stop this derail thought, this is GCCX thread, not how Japan uses anims to sell games.

Not on the page no, I sent her a message on facebook a few days ago. I thought I would try sending a recommendation directly to her so she didn't have to scrawl through all the comments on the page looking for something useful. I thanked her for her efforts and wished them luck, and also said

quote:

I wanted to personally suggest giving http://www.crunchyroll.com/ a try. It's less well known than some of the bigger VOD services like Netflix, but it focuses on Japanese shows and is also on Xbox Live. Following those two, Hulu might be an option.
She replied with

quote:

Actually, we've already tried in the past. But thanks for the message. -Yuko

It might just still be a bit too unknown. Though I also don't know what sort of deals have to be set up in the backend to get your content onto a service like that.

I can't really imagine why Crunchyroll would turn them down of all services.

If I had to wager a guess, I would say the licensing issues with all the various game companies involved must be pretty thorny.
