The soundtrack is great too, even in just the demo. The fight against your trainer has a real Dark Souls vibe to it.

For those curious, here are shots of the arms ranging from Holy 4 to Devil 4. As well as the different warp in effects based on your arm alignment.

The music in Soul Sacrifice is indeed extremely awesome and there’s a reason for that. Yasunori Mitsuda is something of a video game composer legend. Let’s list of some games this guy has worked on: Chrono Trigger Xenogears Chrono Cross Shadow Hearts Xenosaga Xenoblade Chronicles And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Unfortunately there isn’t much in the way of rips of this game’s soundtrack yet but it’s pretty amazing stuff, here’s the only two I could find. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NGpTb4cVJg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uObRVSXcPxA Fortunately thought there is a bit of him talking about the music for the press. The first one is from the initial announcement of the game and the second was produced by Sony. Warning: the translators for the announcement are really bad and awkward. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=kiQyBgKAUQs http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=MgHgDv9C92I Right now SalsaguyX and I are working to rip the sound tracks off the game. We’ll throw them up as we finish.

Sorry for the double post but we actually finished uploading the rest of the major music tracks from the game. I've compiled them into a playlist with the previous 2 so you can hear the great BGMs anytime you want (assuming Sony doesn't come calling). http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1vEAMDMglvtLeVDpdtCT5D_Henjs4Zo3

Source NA: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/01/29/soul-sacrifice-out-april-30th-box-art-pre-order-extras-revealed/ Source EU: http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2013/01/29/soul-sacrifice-release-date-and-pre-order-extras-revealed/ Release date has been announced for North America and Europe! April 30th/May 1st is the day that we can finally get our hands on Soul Sacrifice. I hope they're still working on getting the demo released in these regions but at least we have these dates. Some other bits of info in the post: Here is the official NA box art. It's a cropped version of the image you see when you load the game up. It's also rad. In addition to the release date and box art we've got some information about pre-purchase goodies. These are apparently only available at retailers but the guy with the information didn't seem really all that sure on that. These are the two costumes you get. In addition to the costumes you get 3 bonus spells at the start of the game. These don't seem really unique or anything, just a nice bonus. Oh and you get the Japanese voice overs. Apparently they're going to charge extra for these if you don't pre-order so if this is something that is important to you then make sure you pre-order. Finally here's a nice trailer I hadn't seen before that was included in the EU news post: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFc4qyY6Jig Belzac fucked around with this message at 18:21 on Jan 30, 2013 |

Let’s look at some spells in this game in greater detail. Giant’s Bones is the subject of today’s look. By offering up these bones as sacrifice you can transform your arm into that of a giant’s. Giant’s Bones are a very basic close combat magic with a ton of power but slow wind up. The arm also has a fair bit of stretchiness to it, allowing you to hit enemies both far away from you and in a wide arc, but generally not both at once. It has a standard three hit combo as well as a tremendous charge up attack that can easily stun and knock back even bosses with a direct hit but takes considerable skill and timing to get off. Like with all charge up attacks, the remaining duration of the spell is canceled after the attack ends. Let’s look at its stats: Attack: 55 (Level 0) Elements: All elements (stone can only be obtained from fields temporarily in the demo) Uses: 4-7 (Rank 0-3) Range: Short Range Its 55 attack makes it the strongest melee spell available in the demo even though it’s still only level 0 (compared to the other melee spells which are level 1). Builds seeking to take advantage of the Giant’s Bone should equip the Fighting Seal to their Forearm (+10 to Arm attacks, +5 additional if Devil Arm I). The Arm has a long attack animation so players using it should time their attacks so they won’t have worry about dodging or sudden position changes from the boss. Line up that power attack and knock the boss down for some showy results.

Cross posting from the Vita thread, Policenaut found this trailer for SS from the Playstation 2012 awards. There's some neat never before monster designs in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uDlwqCxNnM Edit: While I was at it I added a couple more trailers to the original post. Adding another trailer found by Policenaut. Once again shows off a ton of new monsters (seriously, how many are in this game) as well a ton of crazy looking spells. There's even some that look very co-op focused. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRbQ86r8rE8 Added to the OP as well.

nerdz posted:Whoa. Those armor spells look cool. I had to go back to notice they actually change your character model. I'm always constantly amazed every time I see a new spell in a quick cut in one of these trailers. They start this one off by the player throwing what looks like a full sized statue at a monster. There is a certain amount of "palette swapping" but they really go out of their way to make each spell and monster feel cool even if it is just a incremental upgrade.

Every new video certainly makes the game look crazier and crazier, in a good way. Shame that the combat in all these MH likes is a bit too fast paced.

Holy poo poo, that griffin vid is hilarious. Someone conjured the golem and apparently it keeps on attacking anything in front of him, including players. Then nobody could get to sacrificing the boss because the golem kept hitting them before they could finish the sacrifice. That's a monster hunter moment right there. Also, nice to see some new higher level sacrifices, like sacrificing your arm for what amounts to a shock trap, haha.

Soul Sacrifice got it's first review from Famitsu. It got a 37 (10,9,9,9) which is pretty drat high. They said the single player will take about 25 hours to complete but the online co-op adds hundreds of more hours. They (they being Comcept) also recently announced there will be DLC for SS, both in paid and free varieties. The first DLC should be available shortly after launch and will be a boss pack containing 10 new bosses, for free.

Soul Sacrifice came out yesterday! In Japan! Game looks amazing and there seems to be a lot of Japanese players on it. There are some nice changes coming in a patch. Other stuff I learned from various places today: * Stunlocking still exists, but it's harder to pull off in single-player. Because of that, now the cool thing to do is get the boss AI stuck on a golem. * After completing a certain story mission, your demo (assuming you imported your save) Salamander gets replaced with one that costs double to repair. * Sac rewards still exist (which sucks) but now you seem to get them just by having a sacrifice event happen and you're not required to be on the giving or receiving end. Only one person has to suicide now. * There's some nutty outfits. You can now be a magic cowboy with a surgeon's mask, apparently. * It's still all about high red, low blue character setups. Lots of 10/70 and 20/60s. * There are a metric asston of arm stamps. * There's multiple versions (it sounds like MH's ranks) of the same boss. * If you buy on PSN before the 20th you get extra junk as an early purchase bonus. Still trying to figure out if the game is worth picking up early. A lot of people never played (or got far enough in to break) the demo so it's difficult to get exact comparisons and see if things were fixed. I've been flat out told that they "fixed" stunlocking but I'm seeing tons of it in streams.

In the demo there was a disabled option to switch the VO language. I haven't seen any of the streamers (even the english ones) use this option, so I'm guessing it's still disabled until the English release.

Apparently they are adding a bunch of poo poo with the free content patches. In the April 4th one 2 new bosses, a new level and a AR card game and bunch of balance changes. It looks like they are planning to add 11 more free bosses. http://www.siliconera.com/2013/03/29/soul-sacrifices-massive-update-slated-for-april-adds-new-monsters-and-an-isle-to-explore/

I've given up hope of there being a English demo for this game. The Japanese got a demo just over 2 months before the game dropped and we're now sitting at around 3 weeks and not even a hint of a demo. This is a big shame cause the SS demo is one of the best demos I've ever played. Shame on you SCEA, why do you always do this?

Yea, you'd think it would have been released by now. This games seems to be getting really good word of mouth and I suppose we can hold out hope for a last minute marketing push, if not the demo.

There will hopefully be some news of the Demo later this week, according to PS EU Blog. I'm just disappointed to see no trace of the English VO DLC that was promised on the 4/4. While I can play through most of the game in Japanese, a lot of the seals make no sense to me as I can't read Japanese, and I'd like to understand the story better too. Thankfully the game still rules though.

I'm not sure if the Vita is like the PS3 but you normally need twice the space of the application in order to download and install anything.
