Just installed Clean Rom Inheritance on my TF700, good lord what a difference. It's mostly sat collecting dust for the past few months, it was just too slow compared to my Nexus 7, but now, now I think it will get some use.

I bought an USB thumb drive that apparently requires more power than my Nexus 7 can spit out, but it works fine with a self-powered usb hub. Now I have a question. Does someone know where I can find a self-powered usb hub that takes its power over microusb? Following the format "INPUT(device)OUTPUT" I have an example: code:
e: I cannot find anything that matches my requirements, so I ordered this lovely looking thing so at least I can use it as a charger. varl fucked around with this message at 19:03 on Mar 26, 2013 |

So I'm considering a 10" tablet for general usage and for note-taking in my classes in order to cut down on lugging my heavy laptop back and forth from school every day. Figured I'd go with the Nexus 10 with a nice keyboard/case combination. Unfortunately I've scoured my entire city (London, ON) for a place to go try the thing out, but the market here is saturated with iPads (I'm not a big fan). I was lucky to come across a Nexus 7 at Best Buy, but none of the salespersons anywhere had even heard heard of the Nexus 10. I hate this city. Any reason I should go for another tablet all things considered? If not, is there a particular keyboard or keyboard/case combo anyone can recommend for the 10? I found this helpful website but there's still a big selection out there with varying bells and whistles and price tags. Thanks.

I've checked that site in the past, it's largely marketing fluff and also a bit suspicious since it only links to Amazon. That said, the last two cases look promising since they're metal, rechargeable, Bluetooth and built for the n10 instead of generic 16:10 10" tablets. They appear to be from the same OEM, so I guess it's good that two companies approve enough to put it in their portfolio. I've been using a generic Motorola android keyboard with trackpoint, but wouldn't want it for the purpose of serious writing and note-taking (it has layout compromises to meet a compact footprint). Those last two on the nexus10keyboard site have mostly-standard layouts, which ought to help reduce typist error rates. Based on the build quality of my keyboard, I'd easily recommend the larger Motorola android keyboards (either with the slide-out trackpad or the cheaper one without touchpad) if you aren't totally attached to the idea of a keyboard doubling as case. The brand has an established western presence, decent warranties, and they're owned by Google.

Is anyone else curious as to how Android tablet manufacturers will respond to Bay Trail? It seems like it'll push moderate Win 8 x86 performance into Android tablet battery life territory.

I just picked us a Nexus 7 today and was looking for a keyboard/case for it. I'm only going to be using it when taking notes in class so don't care if it's a flip or a snap off case and plug in keyboard model. Are the ~$20 models such as from SHARKK, Minisuit, or exact any good? Or should I just wait a bit and get one from Logitech that I know is a good company, just really don't need wireless.

Looking for a cheap 10" tablet for my dad. Around the $300 AUS mark His needs are pretty basic- he just wants something to web browse, use Skype on and read e-books while he is travelling. We were going to get a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1" (I have one of these personally) and I just noticed that a store has the Asus TF300T-1K088A 10.1 for the same price. I can tell the Asus has a quad core and Tegra 3, which puts the specs above the Tab 2. It looks like it can run Android 4.2, I think the max for the Tab is 4.1. I'll probably go with the Asus but before I do is there anything else i'd need to consider?

I bought a Galaxy Note 10.1 and it appears the word correction/completion on the stock keyboard doesn't work. When I contacted Samsung about it today they claim its a fault with Android not them and that it may or may not be fixed in the future whenever they update the device again. I can't understand why it won't finish a word off when my Sony Xperia T can, also on 4.1.2, my Galaxy Y can, on 2.3 or something, my other tablet on an AOSP 4.1.1 can also. All with stock keyboards. And i know that XDA have got the word correction working on non-stock ROMS anyway so why can't Samsung? I've got Swiftkey tablet installed but that obviously stops me from using the handwriting recognition keyboard unless I switch back to the stock whenever I want to use it.

A couple of questions for the thread - although it would be nice if people didnt just shout "NEXUS 7!" at me. I'm looking for a budget 7" tablet. Ive already got a netbook which works well enough, I just need something a bit bigger than my phone to read websites, ebooks and the like while I'm travelling. I've got a budget of £100 because I'm a minimum wage peon, and for that amount of cash I can get either a miscellaneous chinese tablet or an Acer Iconia. Currently its coming down to the Iconia and this offering from Novatech, who are taking a chinese tablet and applying their own name to it. Im not too worried about that because I've bought lots of components from Novatech before and theyre a pretty solid company. Theyre both pretty similar, but there are a couple of things that raise my interest. NT's offering has more ram and a higher speed processor - but the Acer has a slightly higher screen resolution. Should I simply go with the better ram and processor to rely on sheer grunt power overcoming the bottlenecks in the Acer?

Sounds like you already prioritised the display for reading so specs are probably moot other than battery life.

IIRC the Iconia has a terrible screen/viewing angles, so roll the dice on the Novatech not breaking in 3 months I guess. Even though its not what you want to hear, you'll be in a much better position if you save up the extra £59 + £9.99 shipping and get a 16GB Nexus 7. It's very little extra for a much better product and support in the long run. The savings from the alternatives are negated by increased aggro you get in exchange.

You could also wait until Google IO when there is a very strong chance there'll be a refreshed N7, and then pick up a current gen model on eBay or whatever.

Yay, just got my 32GB Nexus 10 in Canada. Overall I'm satisfied so far, but there are a couple weird things about it: 1) The box, and to a lesser degree the tablet itself, smell kinda musty, like it was in a damp warehouse for a long time. No visible water damage though. Can/should I do anything about this? 2) I have an Apple bluetooth keyboard that mostly works well, with a couple exceptions in Chrome. First, ESC (which is normally "back" everywhere else) doesn't do anything. Next, there doesn't seem to be a keyboard shortcut for back/forward. Finally, CTRL-SHIFT-T doesn't reopen a closed tab. It seems to be ignoring the shift, because it just opens a new blank tab. I know shift is recognized, though, because CTRL-SHIFT-N opens an Incognito window. How can I fix these problems? Can I fix these problems?

Tunga posted:Tethering isn't supported in the stock firmware on the N7 3G, but the hardware supports it just fine. You can either get it by installing a mod, or by flashing a ROM which includes it. Modaco have a ROM which is just stock with a few small fixes for things like this, without adding/changing/breaking a bunch of things in the way that something like CM does. Not even with FoxFi or an alternative tethering app from the store?

Alright then. Nexus it is.. edit: Actually, I ignored all your advice and got this this bad boy. Before you say it, I don't care about the low res, not planning on doing anything too nuts on it. The benchmarks on this one beat everything else like it by a mile and it uses the same processor as the Samsung galaxy thingys. I'll let you guys know how it is once I get it. Gozinbulx posted:Alright then. Nexus it is.. Not to hivemind but why? $230 is still a lot of money for a potentially subpar product. Searching for it, I could only find comparisons against other chinese tablets, doesn't exactly instill confidence. Its obviously your money, but I always get worried with Android about buying products that aren't popular and well known, not just due to the obvious quality concerns but also because they tend to be unsupported. I almost got burnt to the tune of $600 with the Transformer Infinity because of that, and only got saved by Amazon's generous return policy. Is there are reason why you really need a 10" over 7"? My wife loves her Nexus 7 and that's less expensive than the one you purchased.
