Yeah, one post with more content than "WOW HOOLEY DOOLEY STUFF IS GOING DOWN" would be.. you know, better. I finished the Zero Saga of Dengeki Styker the other night. That end sequence was pretty amazing, Awakened fairy-thing Mirror wrecking poo poo, then Stryker Zero putting HIS FIST THROUGH HIS loving TORSO was great. Heaven Saga is next, I guess. Up to chapter six so far and everything's been the same, though it doesn't say what saga I'm on so I guess the route split is later.

I just finished Forest. I kept thinking "okay it's going to make sense soon" but for the most part it stayed dream like and incomprehensible to the end. And I thought that it was needlessly porned up, though it felt like they tried to be all soft core and tasteful the dialog undid all that... I can't even say it was needless anymore because important plot points get brought up during them. The in between parts ranged from atmospheric and mysterious to unapologetically fantastic. The art style was incredible. The music made the game vivid and the action scenes really intense. It had interesting doodle cameos of famous literary characters. Here's winny the pooh: So while I didn't get it and I was bothered by all the needless(?) sex scenes, I finished forest. It was a thing I read and now I have to live with it. It's the core rule of SA even. There's no need to call attention to it because even a modicum of common sense would scream "hey this is a bad idea!"

As much as you may dislike the sex scenes in Forest, Hoshizora Meteor probably liked them even less, given that being forced to do them is purportedly why he left Liarsoft. Other than that I absolutely love how insane Forest is, I'll totally be reading Fire Girl for more Meteor.

I thought I recognized Karaya, I think that's how you spell her name. Thank you for this. Well a lot of it is purely subjective. Forest is a commentary on storytelling itself (which is part of the reason Umineko is accused of cribbing from it, though I'll not get into that), and I don't necessarily agree with every conclusion my friends there reached. For example I don't agree with some of their conclusions about Amomori, Kako, and other such things. but it's been too long since I've played to really get into the details of it. Draw what conclusions you like. It's a cool game I think, despite the flaws. soundtrack and visuals.

I've been playing the Umineko games bit by bit lately. I'm now at ep4, the part where Battler disappears because he's convinced that he's not Battler and the game seems to get suspended indefinitely. It's hard to express how confused I felt while playing it, and how confused I still feel. I watched the terrible anime adaptation so I sort of know what's going to happen but... I don't understand how Ange could save Battler any more, unless she just reaches to him with ~sibling love~. Also, the game doesn't kid with trying to make me explain things with magic. The first three episodes were ...kind of okay? As individual cases Battler, and by extension I, had the crimes sort of explained through human means. But now there's bunny girls, witches, demons and goats everywhere and everyone uses magic. It's all useless, indeed. The best thing I can think of is ignoring ALL the stuff shown as an illusion of the witch, and only taking as the truth the state of the corpses and what Battler-piece witnesses. But then again, a lot of the victims talked to Battler and swore that the murders were carried out by magic. I don't think I'm willing to claim that Jessica, Gohda, Kumasawa and Kyrie are all accomplices or somehow threatened to lie. At least there's a silver lining - Beato burning Kinzo leaves the possibility for the dead Kinzo theory since Kinzo being alive was never proclaimed in red (or I forgot about it). Unless there's actually a crime scene later on, explaining this is going to be a mess. I'm not even going to try. Then there's the part about Battler's sin. I get the feeling it has something to do with the theme of 'without love, it cannot be seen' but I've got no idea what it could be. I don't really believe that Battler isn't of Ushiromiya family since we've only established that Asumu isn't his birth mother. Unless it's shown that Rudolf isn't his father either. If so, maybe the real Battler has something to do with the murders? That seems a little far-fetched to me. I'm really liking these though. Sometimes things get a little slow but I've read slower books. The music is great and the art is fine. I have to admit that even though I watched the anime adaptation, in ep3 Beatrice's North wind and the Sun tactic completely fooled me. I first thought Beatrice was a dick, then I thought she was just pitiful. Only when Battler got into the party I remembered that it's all a trick. Then she was a dick again. Now I don't know what to think. I've heard that the ending is lackluster to say the least. How much of this stuff does it actually answer? Will I get any resolution to the sin that supposedly caused all the deaths and the murders?

Nate RFB posted:Everything "important" is answered, though it may not go out of its way to spell it out for you. Now what you determine to be "important" right now may not be the same by the time you reach the end, so it's possible certain questions you have right now won't be answered while others you hadn't thought of will be. Rest of ep4 notes: "Magic to always be friends with my beloved mother" Oh wow. That's really clever. This episode made Maria a whole lot less insufferable as a character. Kinzo's dead, okay. But then Beatrice declares there's no more than 17 people on the island. I suppose congratulations are in order for misleading me to wrong conclusions. Battler's absurd theories had me going but the second tea party put an end to that. Since dead people don't count (Kinzo is on the island, but dead) I'm guessing that after the first six murders you can get get more people to the island through method X. Beatrice's last riddle really seems to scream "lightning" but at this point I wouldn't be surprised if it's something I'd never think of. ...Yeah. I wouldn't make a good detective. I wasn't spoiled, no worries. kirbysuperstar posted:Oh god Nitroplus are great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47HxAGIyfw4

Ottumon posted:Will I get any resolution to the sin that supposedly caused all the deaths and the murders? Well... Yes and no. Do to the stories narrative, you really cant be sure about anything. The sin in particular is touched on and it could be the cause of the deaths within the stories but it seems at odds with a good chunk of the narrative if it was the cause of the deaths outside of the stories. Some of the murders are explained. Others are conveniently forgotten. Once you finish reading the very last episode, you could read the manga adaptation of EP8. Its a whole lot better executed than the VA and it goes further in depth with a lot of things the VN didn't touch upon.

Going through the Watanagashi arc in Higurashi is getting really confusing, being half-spoiled and all. Like, I know Shion is a real person, and that her and Mion are separate people, but on the other hand Mion seems to be getting really excited about meeting Keichii at the dessert thing but she seems normal most of the time. This is probably bothering me more than it should, but if I wasn't half-spoiled i'd just be like "oh yeah Mion's going through a schizophrenic episode" and it'd all be really neat and simple. I'm definitely looking forward to where it's going with this, it's a pretty good VN and the club scenes are pretty charming, and never go to the lengths of lacrosse. And the ending to Onikakushi was just enough that i'm even more interested in the story and characters. Really hoping that Keichii doesn't bash Shion's brains it with a baseball bat, that'd be really bad. e: Aw, Mion. e2: Oh, this is terrible. Shion is just an awful person. klapman fucked around with this message at 23:41 on Apr 3, 2013 |

I think of it in novel lengths. Every 0.8MB of script is about equal to a 300+ page novel (100,000 words). At 5.3MB, Umineko is 13 Slaughterhouse-Fives, 6 and a half To Kill A Mockingbirds, or two and a half Ulysseses. Krinkle posted:So the equals signs separate aliases and are not mistranslated kanji? Script sizes are better standards of comparison than line counts because average line density varies widely.Gackt posted:I think of it in novel lengths.
