My dad got me those signed by the author when they were first released.

They made a new one about 6-7 years ago that was just different locations and planets done the same way the Stephen Biesty ones were.

Netflix only has up to the end of season 2 on Instant; I don't know why they don't have seasons 3 and 4 up.

For the longest time, Seasons 1 and 2 were in legal limbo and only 3 and 4 were available, so it's funny to see it the other way around. If I had to guess, maybe they staggered the releases in order to not cannibalize DVD sales? I'd say Netflix always has weird rights and contract issues, but in this case Shout Factory got the rights to the full series. V:shobon:V

What I remember most about Dunkaroos is that they always had a problem where there is only enough frosting for three of the six cookies in the tray. Sort of like how Lunchables never have an even ratio of crackers to slices of cheese and meat. :argh:

I like to imagine that it was to teach children about self-control but more likely it was to save cost and make it look like the nutritional content wasn't totally out of whack so they could market it as a healthy snack..

What a great loving show. All the timely 90s grunge and college rock got changed to generic guitar parts when it started getting syndicated, which lessened the awesome campiness, but it's still a goddamn amazing show that you should love real hard.

There's a reason for that. MTV was able to use whatever music they wanted to for Daria and other shows because they were also showing the music videos on their channel. When it was showing on other channels like Noggin and when the DVD boxset finally got released, all of that music was removed because the rights to all of the music couldn't be secured.

Man, the rainbow Times New Roman reminds me of these sheets of "scratch-on" rainbow monogram letters that we had. I don't know if they were a "thing" or if mom just picked them up at a dollar store because she thought they were pretty or what. You'd peel off the back, press the letter down onto whatever you wanted to monogram (your school binder, presumably), then scratch at it until it transferred over.

Assuming you didn't run out of the letters you actually needed before you were done, they'd flake off within a week. I never wanted to "waste" them. I think I finally threw them out 15 years later when I found them in a box...

I used to love that show as a kid, but I tried watching Cow and Chicken a little while ago for the nostalgia and I completely forgot that Chicken talks the way he does - so full of 90's "attitude" as to make every line absolutely silly.

He was only Satan in the first episode. After that they gave him aliases that drew attention to his bare rear end (the example I remember is "Clancy Clearbottom"). What more can one expect when the main characters' favourite food is "pork butts 'n' taters"?

Every time someone mentions that episode, I get halfway through thinking that no children's network would air something like that before I remember that the episode actually exists. And yes, it's Cow and Chicken. While it was definitely true for the "edgy" cartoons, it's pretty surprising to go back and see what got past the censors in the 90's for a lot of Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network programming even for shows that didn't market themselves on parental outrage.

I just discovered this:

http://youtu.be/zmeqY0TA_tU

It's the unforgettable 1991 independent film Star Wars Episode VII: The Quest for Peace. It's performed entirely by two guys voicing action figures indiscriminately, complete with 1970s-quality bluescreen effects, pyrotechnics, a John Williams score, and the 3rd most coherent plot of the series. It's the most amazing thing I've seen this month. It's 32 minutes of your life you won't will probably want back.

See, this has now reminded me of horrible things. When I was in sixth grade, which would have been around 1995, they had Apple IIs (or something very much like them) in the math room. And that drat game. I must have played that thing at recess every day for a month. I had almost hit the rank of "Detective." Came in the next day and somebody had goddamn deleted the save. It's also about context. Remember television is really only 30 or 40 years old by the time the 90s hit and cable is literally JUST starting around the same time. Nickelodeon pushed the limits a little to see what they could get away with because it just really hadn't been tried yet.
