The next time his listeners hear STEM, the first thing they will think of is how Rush said it was worthless. It took him about an hour and a half and a looooong commercial break before he came back and said what it meant. He seemed sort of surprised and yeah, he genuinely seemed clueless about it.

I think this is another incident like his Lord's Resistance Army thing. There is some letter that has gone viral or something, and he decided to jump in without actually knowing anything about it. It was a social studies teacher complaining about a lack of "real education" and "creativity" and "STEM rules the day." It was actually the type of thing you would expect him to mock, but he decided to go with the "agree with something criticizing our education system" so that he can make a point about LIBERALS RUININ' EVERYTHING AND INDOCTRINATING YOUR KIDS. He actually suggested that STEM is some government program to indoctrinate kids.

It never ceases to amaze me that conservatives I know who have really good educations, undergrad and grad degrees from decent universities, take their political views and march lockstep with pinheads like Rush and Hannity and Beck when they'd never hire their college dropout asses to help run their company.

I din't hear the program so I have to defer to you guys on whether or not he was ignorant of what STEM stands for. Either way, he left the impression in the minds of his listeners that STEM fields are meaningless and not worth our tax dollars cause if it was important, Rush would already know about it. He does this a lot and he constantly reminds listeners that only the news he provides is worth knowing. Also, when Rush and Levin use some derogatory variation of names its annoying but, I have to laugh and roll my eyes cause they actually sound like a 10 year old schoolyard bully when they do it. Especially Levin, he just sounds pathetic when his shrill whiny voice rattles off some bastardization of a proper name.

There is no misguided attempts to reduce federal funding at play there, just good old fashioned greed. Its just easier to rile up idiots and get them to do your bitching for you as a smokescreen than to try to hide it.

Fox News just spent the last half hour whining about someone secretly recording Mitch McConnell and advisors discussing dirty as poo poo political strategies to fight a potential Ashley Judd political run. The same Fox News that played for months on end and that still has on their website the secretly recorded and maliciously edited video of ACORN employees which resulted in the employees' firing and the entire organization losing all its funding. Oh, looks like they're back to the whining again.

Also I can't help but laugh over conservatives absolutely losing their mind over this, looking to lock up any and every liberal in the country for breaking the law. Yet when one of their own (O'Keefe) actually gets CAUGHT inside a Senators office, disguised as an IT worker, trying to tamper with the phone lines and install a bug, they howl that it's some liberal conspiracy and the case is essentially tossed (just some mild probation) by some good-connected judges.

However, I'm more knowledgeable about the depths of the republican party's present depravity than most, so to a lot of other people hearing it, it is a shock. I am loving this age of secret recordings where even backroom assholes who make their 'kill the poor' rants in private soirees are no longer safe from scrutiny. (I.E. Romney's 47% tape.) It sounds dumb, but I automatically assumed that Rush pushing the "STEM is bad" thing was nothing more complex than word association with stem cell research. I just tend to assume his audience is that shallow and that they're trained to just hate the word "stem" in any context because, as we all know, we have to murder infants to get stem cells.
