According to Mr. Jordan Mechner, Prince of Persia 2 (the 2D one, not the hilaribad Godsmack one on PS2) is getting an iOS port similar to Prince of Persia Retro, which controlled surprisingly well on a touchscreen. I was kind of terrible at it, though.

Anyone tried Temple Run Oz? I thought the movie was okay but is it just another cash in like Brave or does it improve on the gameplay any? It certainly looks pretty.

That RO game is rather well made, grindy as hell (like its big brother) and will probably make a lot of money due to the decent implementation of IAP. Really smart reuse of all their existing graphics to grow the ultimate cash cow.

One of my challenges is to kill five skulls with the lance, but the lance is 420 coins, and I have no idea how to get that many. To even accumulate that much total I would have to spend at least a few hundred on armor and food and forgo weapons, even with keeping my combo up. I wonder if something that expensive would be easier to get in boss rush mode or something where you're getting a chest with 80+ coins after every fight. I haven't been able to unlock that yet though so I don't know.

Who would have thought the mini iPad would be better for games. I want an iPad mini with the 4's stats and a retina screen. I'd buy that in a heartbeat to replace my dinosaur iPad 1, although its 64gigs and 3g helps keep it relevant in my life.

Game designers: What impetus or reason is there for someone to REMOVE their game from the App Store? There are hordes of games that get approved, then sit out there for years without meaningful updates. Some of them are buggy cash grabs (which is why I still haven't bought Orions, the reviews show that bugs from the Windows Mobile 3 version are still in it), but some are perfectly good games, so I go digging for older sleepers now and then. A couple of games that I looked for recently (Glyph, an old WM title I liked years ago, and Plank, a match-3 with tilt game from Strange Flavour *) were once out for iOS -- I can Google their reviews -- but have vanished without a trace. Is there any month-to-month cost involved in keeping games 'live'? I can certainly imagine sales dwindle to near-nothing on a lot of titles, but aren't occasional sales on a finished product better than no sales? (* - I have a history with Strange Flavour from their old Mac OS game, Airburst. I wrote them once asking to register the OS 9 version for my old iMac, and the response was "sorry, we're only registering the OS X version now." I wrote back saying "I can't run Airburst Extreme on my old Mac, it can't run OS X, so all you'd have to do is run your keygen for the older one. Are you really saying 'I WILL NOT TAKE YOUR MONEY'?" The response was "I WILL NOT TAKE YOUR MONEY." So... okay then. Apparently they're REALLY serious about expiration dates on their games. They partnered with Freeverse for a bit and I know we have some of their people here, so maybe they can shed some light on that.)

Sometimes a publisher pulls it too, and the game developer can't get them to put it back on e.g. Critter Crunch

Anyone else here tried out Gemini Rue? Seems like a pretty solid point and click adventure with a decent noir theme (the animation and detail in the audio of the rain are superb). Don't know about length yet but I have to say I love it already. Of course I haven't reached any combat (something it apparently has in the form of cover shooting kinda like Another World sans forcefields) so that might kill it for me. Who knows?

From his forum, good stuff:DaveGilbert posted:This is our VERY first foray into the world of mobile, and the App Store in general. So we would really appreciate it if you could take a moment and rate the game for us. Things like ratings, reviews, and a clicking that "like" button can go a long way to make sure that this game is a success. And if it IS a success, it will help us get the rest of our games onto the App Store that much faster! How fast is the average turnaround for an app update on the app store? Like if a developer says "yeah I submitted something today" I can expect to see it on the app store when exactly? Or is this one of those things where there is no average because Apple is completely inconsistent?

Man, in the Penny Arcade RPG Gabe becomes the destroyer of worlds when he hits level 40. Tube samurai attack stance, pump him full of MP from gardens and energite, then power up->pulverize for 50k guaranteed damage. Nothing in the game can take more than 2-3 of those, not even the hidden bosses.

I've been really logging a lot of time into New York Zombies 2 lately and I must say for a "free" game it's pretty decent. Twin stick FPS will never be a genre that iOS does exceptionally well but here it works. The hit boxes on the zombies are generous without being unrealistic, and the slight inaccuracy of certain weapons makes firing from the hip actually a bit forgiving. The premium currency is actually about as easy to get as the regular currency, so though there is IAP it's wholly unnecessary. A nice touch is that you do get graded on "story missions" but there's no option to retry; any missing skill points from low grades can be made up with side missions (but only to put you on par with where you'd be with all A-grades). Different weapons have their uses, and most take some time to reload so you'll be cycling through your arsenal enough to want to have a few different weapons upgraded. I'd recommend starting with the ranged skillset and prioritizing the revolver along with your starting pistol. The revolver stays relevant for quite some time and is a beast when fully upgraded. Then, grab either the M-16 or the rifle (eventually both), and eventually snag the 50-cal rifle for the really tough high-end zombies. The recommendation came from this thread, so thanks, whoever that was.

Tycho heals, she uses items, Jim sets up gardens or off-nukes. Then you spend 3-4 turns buffing him up to 50k damage anything.

I have been putting way too much time into injustice gods amount us. I have grinded out almost 65k credit, after spending too much on unlocking and leveling up supers. Going to buy a gold pack at 75k, and see how far that can take me. How many cards do you get from a gold pack? I can't see this game lasting too far beyond the console release. The in-app purchases are ungodly expensive. I can't believe how much characters cost in comparison to gold packs and poo poo too. The amount you earn from battles just isn't going to cut it. It seems to be better than the math on that my little pony game, but not by much. I'm getting about 1200 from each clear of the battle just before the green lantern.
