This, but also there's a lot of really original music being produced every day. It's just a stupid thing that I see people say a lot that always reminds me of "they don't make music like they used to". Blech.

The problem is that they ARE making music very much like they used to right now. Every song on that Magic Circle album sounds so similar (and I've heard half the riffs already) I don't feel much need to hear it again. You might be able to get by on more of the same, some of us can't.

Except what I'm telling you is there's a ton of both. If you don't like this kind of retro stuff just don't jam it, man.

Speaking of tracks, this new Cough track from their split with Windhand is an 18-minute long sludge beast. Just badass.

And also (because they are one of my favorite bands out there) The Body ALSO released a track off their upcoming album and it is sick.

I cannot wait for either of these LPs to drop.

Sounds great overall, except for the part at 2:10 I don't like. New touring drummer looks cool, though I'll miss Joey.

The Cough/Windhand split's been up on Spotify for a while. It's loving vicious.

I'm glad that they are unashamed to sound like new Cave In, considering all the members are former Cave In.

loving YES. I have been waiting for this album for a while and this is my first listen to one of the tracks. As excited as I am, I am trying to wait for the vinyl.

This is some serious loving riffage. I hope they space it out with some drone stuff like on their other albums.

It's all there man, everything. And this album is twice (?) as long as anything else they've done, it rules.

I hear a band clinging to what made me lose interest in them after Songs For The Deaf. But judging by the phonebook length list of people also involved I'm not surprised to think it sucks.

Yeah, that was a band with a very limited window of good songs. Rated R was pretty good all the way through though. Maybe Josh Homme wasn't as responsible for as much Kyuss material as he'd have us believe.

Oliveri played on the two Queens albums most people like best, that sums up my feeling about homme's writing abilities these days.

If there's one instrument Josh Homme plays best it's his mouth. Without him kyuss and queens would be nothing don't ya know :eyeroll:

I'm still interested in the album, but they are definitely a band who peaked on their first album for me and I every subsequent album hasn't been as good as the last. I still hope this is just a bland single and there will be some good stuff on there.

Agreed, Rated R is definitely their best album and while I enjoyed Songs for the Deaf, everything after that is pretty blah. New song included. I'll still check out the new album but I doubt it's going to be all that exciting.

Have you ever pondered what the doomier love child of The Sword and Gates of Slumber would sound like? It's called, Kröwnn. They're a three piece from Italy and they play an old brand of doom metal lyrically based on the fantasy works of Howard and Tolkien.

Estonian doom duo Talbot just came out with a new album, 'Scaled'.

Their last album 'EOS' is available as 'pay what you want', I definitely recommend grabbing it.

I'm in Estonia and super-shamed I haven't managed to catch any of their live performances yet.

What are some of the better female fronted doom/stoner bands out there? I've had Windhand on heavy rotation since 2010 when they put out the Practice Space demo, High Priest of Saturn is another I like, I have Devil's Blood, Rituals of the Oak, The Wounded Kings, etc. I'm just feeling like I'm missing some. I like the way the female vocals sound against the heavy crushing riffs. Hopefully stuff that is painfully slow and heavy.

Thanks

While I do love me some Windhand and anxiously await their new release, Royal Thunder (Atlanta) is currently filling all my female fronted rock goodness and I'm busting nuts over the songs I've heard for the new Kylesa album. Vaginas rock!
