Typically my store would honor the posted price if it was a whole shelf of misplaced items or if it was an old expired sale sign mistakenly left up, but in the cases I posted before about our misprinted ad we specifically posted retractions on our self. So no, we'd never honor that price. Also if it is just one misplaced item by itself we won't honor that because anyone could have put that there.

I think that Robzor McFabulous is justified in being annoyed about them not fixing the minor price discrepancy but I also think it was a bit extreme to leave the whole transaction behind. This plays back into that "Should" area. It was the store who mistakenly put the product on the wrong shelf so they arguably "should" fix the price, but they are not obligated to do so.

I think both parties could have been more mature. But it doesn't sound to me like either person was rude and I doubt the store had to throw out product as a result (though I have never worked in a grocery store)

I hate radio ads! Please tell me the rest of you deal with customers that hear radio ads for a competitors store, then come to your store demanding the same sale/deal, and leave in a huff when you say that must have been an ad for so-and-so's store, not ours.

I had a guy throw a low-energy understated tantrum (thank god for small favors) because I wouldn't sell him 3 bags of 7-dollar a piece mulch for just 5-dollars total, just because he heard an ad on the radio. "We're never getting any of his business again!" Ugh. Makes me want a little tape deck and TV monitor at the registers that we can play our current ads to prove ourselves (it's much easier to prove out print ads).

My store was actually surprisingly strict about the whole price match thing. If you didn't physically have a printed ad or some kind of printed proof with you we wouldn't do it. Pissed so many people off when they thought they could just rattle off "It's $10 at Walmart this week" and we would just do it no problem.

They probably don't, they just don't want to go to their doctor to talk about something embarrassing like not being able to get it up. Or they saw the commercial and thought spur of the moment "Hey that would be a fun thing to try, I'm not taking the time or paying for a doctor's appointment though!" And most pharmacists wear white coats and give out medicine, that makes them like 2/3 doctor right? :downs:

They actually don't--the FDA is loving strict about how that information has to be presented, and TV ads have such wide exposure that nothing's going to slip under the radar.

People are just dumb; they can't use bad commercials as an excuse.

I don't know, it usually sounds about the same volume to me just spoken at 100 words a minute. I think there's also an element of desensitization. There's so many prescription drug commercials out now and they all spend half-their airtime rattling off long lists of side-effects and disclaimers so I think after a while people just don't listen because it all sounds the same.

Me legs never hurt until the day AFTER a shift. I can stand and walk around 5-6 hour shifts no problem, and then go home and relax or spend the rest of the day doing whatever. But as soon as I get out of the bed the next day I'm all "owwww" my legs are super sore. I guess I should do leg exercises or something.

Today nothing eventful happened. Our usual sales day this time of year is about $10,000 and today we didn't even make it to $5,000. At 2pm we had just broken $2,000. I was sooo booored and we had more employees than we needed but nobody could go home. I wanted to either go home or sit on the floor leaning on the counter and take a nap. Even though I'm getting paid for it, I still don't like standing around doing nothing.

Believe it or not, I would take the Christmas Craziness over standing in one spot staring out over the empty Electronics dept for 6 hours.

I am out of shape but have been running for about a month. It is just my feet that hurt not my legs or knees or back. They get very swollen and require a tennis ball/foam roller/cold-hot soak with epsom salt to calm down. It is pretty painful and I can't sleep unless I do those things.

I reread this thread because I am (unfortunately) in retail again and would kill for 6 hours. Friday was 16 and the weekend as a whole was 40+. :( Fuuuuuck, I need to apply to big boy jobs more.

Maybe you have crap shoes?

Your choice is obviously limited by the Uniform policy at your job, but as a general rule don't wear shoes that are intended for general smart casual use, or specifically intended as business shoes. Both these types of shoes are intended to be worn in situations where you are primarily sitting, and are designed for looks over anything else. Try going to a specialist shoe place where the staff are knowledgeable about shoes. You may need to spend a bit more to get good shoes, but your health and comfort is worth it.

I wear these, with the addition of an innersole to provide additional padding and correct my outward roll tendancy:

Obviously this is an Australian Company and I don't think they sell them internationally but It's a good example of what to look for. They are designed for manual labour, so they are oil/acid resistant, and have good grip; They have a fuckton of cushioning even without a 3rd party insert - they have an extra layer of springy foam and you feel like you're bouncing around on springs when you walk, and standing still it's like standing on a pillow; they have excellent arch support to keep your foot comfortable, and they have a fibreglass cap so you don't squash your foot if you drop something on it. Aesthetically, they achieve all of the above while not looking out of place when worn with the black business trousers we have to wear.

On the shoe front, I wear Klogs, which I think were made for nursing originally (12+ hours on your feet, on lovely linoleum hospital floors) but have been branching out into more fashionable looking shoes. I think they are kinda ugly, but my feet are happier for them, and at under $150, I can afford them...barely.

Shoes For Crews aren't really the best shoes, but I wore them for quite a few years when doing kitchen work. When I worked regular retail, I went for New Balance shoes since they have good built-in arch support and you can find them at decent prices.

My favorite SFC shoe was this:

and you can get it in 16 and various weird sizes. The anti-slip works quite well, so long as as the grooves aren't filled with luncheon meat or mashed potato.

RedWing makes some excellent composite toe sneakers these days, though I don't know if they make them up to 16 or not, I would try a Work'N'More or other work-clothing type store, they tend to carry higher quality shoes made for dangerous environments but that can be stood in for hours on end.

Shoes for Crews is pretty cheap quality. If you do anything other than stand, these shoes aren't for you. If you crouch a lot, the shoes tend to crack in many spots. They try to tout that they're the best at slip prevention, but they're actually the opposite. It doesn't take long for debris to get caught between the tiny rubber crevasses in the bottom of the shoe which really creates a slippery situation.

This was horrible, don't click this people. After 10 or so of the newest comics, a lot of them were about a couple outside a retail environment arguing about getting a new tv..?

Almost done with my first week of vacation in over 9 months or so. Sadly a few days before I went on vacation, my stupid fuckface manager came to work sick as a dog hacking and coughing all over the place and let us know that he puked in the parking lot right before he came in and that he couldn't work... He then left to go back home leaving me hosed for rest of the day and even worse got me sick just in time to for when my vacation started. I wasn't the only one who got sick from him either.

I may have to seek therapy if I'm having to work with this shitbag any longer. I long for the days where dealing with poo poo customers were the only problems I had to deal with.

You could do what I do and tell management directly "I am paid to put up with customer problems not coworker problems and I won't put up with any of them." I get to have this talk with a separate store manager that is a shitlord. I offered to help for the hours since people quit and now I know why they quit, no one puts up with this guys poo poo for a minimum wage.

Start from the beginning. There are a lot of webcomics that develop "story arcs" after exhausting a continuing gag for a few dozen (hundred) strips, and there's no point in trying to work backwards on those.

There's nothing management loves more than hearing "that's not my job!" Definitely go with this plan and admit you are unable to resolve problems with your coworkers, nothing bad could come of this.

Instead of, you know, doing that thing that the application questionnaire you get everywhere checks to make sure you're not going to do, you could simply complain that your manager got multiple people in the department sick and showed up to work a total wreck. If you have an actual problem manager and work for a real company, you have a documentation and reporting process. If you are smart, you will document for awhile before you report. This gives you what we call "evidence" and makes it look less like you just don't really like your job and need someone to blame it on. I've been on both sides of that one, I'm not saying that having a manager you don't click with is an easy thing to work through, but it's very rarely one person's fault that a work environment is going wrong.

Unfortunately, what was said was that the manager came in to work a scheduled shift, notified people that he wouldn't be able to work, and went home to avoid getting people sick. You might be able to blame those people getting sick on the manager showing up for what sounds like just a few minutes. You might also be able to blame it on him shedding virus for days before he knew he was sick, or any of your other coworkers acting as a vector for someone else they know who was sick, or on any of countless customers who touch things that you touch every day. Retail is not a clean environment, and most retail managers can't afford to miss a couple unpaid days any more than retail cashiers can.

I hope this explains my lack of sympathy for the "problem" that was relayed, but even if it doesn't please take to heart the fact that in my store at least, when someone tells me "that's not my job" I start watching their work more closely. They are the ones who are likely to lose hours first when we have to cut, and they will be the last ones to keep a full schedule when I hire someone with a good attitude. Bad attitudes are worse for a store than bad workers, because they ruin everyone's productivity. If you are one of these people, it doesn't matter how great you are at facing, or stocking, or ringing, or customer service, because nobody wants to work with you and it's far easier to cut your drama out and make everyone else happy than it is to chase around imaginary problems for months.

I don't work for retail in the traditional sense. I'm an "account representative" for a major printer and computer company. I basically visit various stores and sell that company's products. I'm like a temporary employee who only sells one brand. Because I wear this company's logo on my shirt or I introduce myself as being from that company, I of course field a lot of complaints and problems. I try to help people and as much negativity I'm presented with at first, generally people walk away happier.

Today was not one of those days. This gentleman had a printer that did not work and had come to the store I was working at to get a replacement. I was finishing up my shift and my reports, so I let the store employee engage him. When the employee walked away, the guy saw my shirt and asked if I was from the company. I say yes and he proceeds to bring out this folder with a bunch of photos in it. One of these photos is a smashed up printer with writing scribbled on it, the words I can see: "pissed off". He goes into his story.

He had bought the printer ~2 years ago and it was giving him problems. He said he had gotten the store's tech support to come out and look at and had dealt with my company's tech support as well. He kept referring to the latter as a "bitch in the Philippines", so you know what kind of person this was. He's getting more agitated as he relays his story. He tells me after he had gotten done talking to tech support for an hour, he got angry enough to pick up his printer and smash it on the ground and called the store to tell them he had dropped it and wanted to get it replaced.

By this time the store employee had come back over and was standing by as this guy continued. He shows me some more pictures, of his work truck. Says he works for a sign printing company and what he is going to do is print up signs to put on his truck. Then park outside the store and try to get people to join in a class action lawsuit against the store and the printer company. This whole time the employee and I are just standing there nodding our heads. He finally ends his little tirade and asks me "so are going to help me replace my printer" and I just say to him "well that is something Store is going to have to handle" because gently caress if I'm dealing with this and I really have nothing anyway, I'm a salesperson, not PR, not tech support, etc. The store employee takes the guy to see the store manager about it and comes back to me.

I apologized to the employee, he is a good guy and I like the people who work in that store, so I kind of felt like an rear end in a top hat for passing this jerkwad off to them. But I don't get paid to deal with some sexist racist asshat with an anger problem who decides smashing his printer is the best recourse when something doesn't work.

I need a new job.

This store would've replaced it if he had brought it when it first started happening, if not fully at least given him a discount on a new printer. Instead he acted like a child and still got his way.

I love the people who come to me to complain about the company I represent. He isn't the first person to threaten legal action against them to me, like I'm supposed to do something about it or I'm supposed to be afraid for my job.

I saw a poster in Curry's (uk electronics/computer chain) that loved to advertise how their staff were 'continually trained to ensure the best service'. I could only interpret that as 'we do not provide very good initial training for our staff'.

My work has turned into constant High school level drama central. And the worst part? The people involved in the drama are grown adults (or at least seniors in college)

It's between a manager, another supervisor and several other employees. Now they're all mad and "taking sides" between the manager and supervisor. And "If you're fiends with her you can't be friends with us because we hate her, and we want to talk poo poo about her when she's not around"

The supervisor even asked to be walked out by the Store Manager yesterday in broad daylight because she apparently felt so threatened by the manager.

People are even being de-friended on Facebook and people are getting all hurt about it. I don't understand why you would want to be FB friends with coworkers you never see outside of work in the first place. They want colors in a certain arrangement, sizing on displays a certain way (which actually changes completely depending on who you ask), we're not supposed to work clearance, we are supposed to work clearance, etc.

The funny thing is, we get lectured for ticketing wrong until they realize they've hosed up again and nothing changed price in the system when they told us it had. So half the time when we "did it wrong" (as far as re-ticketing things goes), we didn't actually do it wrong. The system was wrong and gave us the wrong numbers to price. I got called over personally once because "This whole rack is marked wrong!!!" and she didn't believe me that it was a scanner issue until the scanner changed price on her while she was scanning. I think we've actually done the entire store twice because 80% of the time, the scanners are wrong and we have to go back and re-do it.

My favorite part of the job is the guy who got hired with me. He bragged about his sweet sword collection, katana included, how he totally punches people in the throat, and how he doesn't believe in other people's personal boundaries. :allears:

Anyone else read reviews about their store on Yelp or other pages? Some of them have points. Some of them are loving hilarious, complaining about having to wait five minutes in a line, having to pay full price, items not being on sale, floor tiles the wrong color, etc.

I read one about a store in my company where a customer ranted and raved about how she went to get a document printed, and the person behind the counter didn't know what program to open the file in. Stupid cashier! Stupid loving cashier needs to be trained in all kinds of computers and every computer program and....!

Look, lady, they pay us barely above minimum wage and for what you pay, you get. Most people are here on their way to larger and better paying things, and they don't need to go to loving design school or computer tech and repair school because your stupid laptop won't work with the service provided or your letterhead looks lovely.

As for lines and being 'super busy!' almost every store review I read that got below 2 out of 3 stars was because the lines were long and the customer just had ONE PROJECT TO PRINT AND IT TOOK THIRTY MINUTES. Sorry, lady, but if the dude ahead of you has a print project that is taking forever to open or describe, he's still in front of you, he comes first, and you screaming that you're in a hurry and need this NOW because your meeting is in 5 minutes...that doesn't justify 2/3 stars.

Yelp is fun because you can identify problem customers immediately. In general, online user reviews tend to be useless in more ways than one. Someone who is going to Walmart or Office Depot is not going to read an online review.
