Nobody really cares about that either though unless you happen to live in Bradford, Sheffield or Leeds. Ah well. Only recently have I seen it being name dropped with the usual suspects. Though even that took a while, it took Reynolds et al only fairly recently have catched onto it, a good couple of years since I first dropped the name here even. Well to be fair to you, I don't think many outside of the north of England had heard of it up until T2 just popped out of what seemed like nowhere with Heartbroken. Then everyone in London caught on after that. Didn't last long though as I think Funky kinda came along and pushed it out the limelight. That's why so many people say Bassline was dead or whatever. Nah, it just ended up back where it came from. Maybe not as healthy but whatever. Plus let's be honest, a lot the general crowd and scene with that Niche stuff was like what the whole Hardcore/Bouncy/whatever crowd was up here. Not for the chinstrokey studenty Techno boy types. Not sophisticated enough dear chap. Jon E Cash is really annoying though. Listening to him on Spyro or someone's show a couple months ago he just sounded really stupid. He stopped releasing music or something for a while because of filesharing. Honestly I can't really blame him for that. A lot of people did. A lot of labels stopped, a lot of distros stopped, a lot of PR companies stopped, a lot of shops stopped. Like it's crazy to look back and you see or speak to people at just how fast sales and the money just evaporated in the early-00s. Not that I really go in for a lot of the arguments, but it definitely had an impact (more so in blocking off potential avenues I'd say) and those kind of mid-sized labels like Black Ops were hit hardest. Not small enough or big enough I guess. It's a bit sad really looking back at what the whole dance world had actually managed to create. If you ask me it was an Indie world that the rockers and moshers could only dream about.

Bassline is awesome, this is one of my favorite tracks ever https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqvhVcWjdY0 And You Wot is so cheesy but so great. Along those lines https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ael1v5idR40 this ones really been growing on me (over-exposure from Rinse breakfast shows probably helped). Feels like a total throwaway pop track but it's cool to hear Wiley on a housey tune and hearing him admit theres dances he can't do is so different than the normal Wiley braggadocio. It's also cool to hear the grime guys doing housey stuff. On top of that BBK track that came out a month or two ago, the Butterz guys and Faze Miyaki have been playing 130 stuff, sort of weird grimey-housey-breaky stuff kinda like Lil Silva meets Zinc and the Night Slugs guys are in similar territory with the grime and bmore influenced stuff they've been doing recently. http://soundcloud.com/nightslugs/l-vis-1990-in-the-mix-for-b Here's a great L-Vis 1990 mix from last week I thought the Deep House/Garage thing coming back might have been kind of a dead end for the scene with like the Hessle guys heading over to house and techno but it seems like the weird innovation's coming back.

What'll be the actual difference between it and Tectonic in the long run is anyone's guess. Ach well, not to worry! I like the single though, both tracks kinda wear their influences on it's sleeve but I can dig that. Contemporary Dubstep that's managed to keep up to date by hoovering up more recent musical developments instead of just half-step plod plod for the deep heads could've been made in 2006. And hey die-cut sleeve is always nice. Actually it's a timely post, as it's what I thought of when I read the above about the House/garage thing being a dead end. It's more what I thought the general scene would, what it'd sound like, 2-3 years ago, before everyone seemed to decide to paint a bit too neatly within the lines in the colouring book of House and Techno.

Blackdown and the Keysound stuff at least gets a lot of respect from me because he's pretty much went, "right don't like that, gonna do this thing instead, who's with me?". Kinda gives me a bit of a Metalheadz vibe. If the Blue Note was still about I'd be worried we'd be in for an imminent club night. I guess you can't complain to much, if you're going to hold something up as a holy grail you could do worse than the 'headz stuff. Strange how it almost seems like it's almost only that wee corner of the scene that keeps carrying the flame for Metalheadz. It certainly was an influence with most of us who came through that Dubstep scene (pre-Caspa & Rusko Fabric mix), I can remember so many people namedropping it at the time. Not many seem to do that anymore. I guess a lot of the people coming from a more House, Techno or mosher background don't really have that strand woven into their DNA. Anyway apart from also trusting Pinch, what I think is pretty promising about the Cold thing is apparently the first three releases are going to be all new artists, which is nice and refreshing to see someone pushing some unknowns out rather than just relying on the old guard - or worse, old guard with a new name doing some uninspiring techy housey number. grvm posted:I'm not going to break anything new, but maybe you guys can break something new to me.
