The only thing getting me through my honours thesis is the El-P beat tape Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixxx3. Please, post some sick instrumentals to celebrate the often-forgotten producers, and also to help me study. I trust the wisdom of this thread. I'll start! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YAVg-_lPCE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlR01EJ7jp4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2vsAZT9FO8 These are all good songs with vocals but it is nice to just groove to all the instrumentals and pick up on all the little sounds that are easily missed.

Quantum of Phallus posted:I don't know what crazy world you live in where El-P, Harry Fraud and FlyLo are often-forgotten. I just meant that the emphasis is usually on rappers, not producers. I admit that these three are bad examples, as they are recognisable names, but I just meant that the producer is often close to anonymous, yet so crucial to the music. My choice of names is a reflection of my general ignorance of producers, not as a description of the phenomenon I was describing. Sorry for the confusion.

Get DJ Burn One's The Ashtray, its probably the best instrumental hip-hop album I've heard in a while. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gf0saDWVTiU Blockhead's album from last year was also pretty good.

Honestly I'd say producers are arguably higher profile (or at least as high) as rappers. As for instrumental, if you liked the El-P megamix make sure and check his earlier stuff (collecting the kid and little johnny from the hospital). Blockhead as mentioned is really nice. Wax Tailor has some nice stuff if you like something more mellow, same for RJD2 (at least his earlier stuff before he tried singing or w/e). MF Doom's special herbs tapes are really good. A little bit ago Madlib and Dilla were mentioned, both have a bunch of great instrumental stuff. I like a lot of Metro Zu's beattapes (usually Lofty305 or Poshtronaut). Alias and Jel from Anticon actually put out some great instrumental stuff. If you want a more electro bent, Araabmuzik has a couple nice albums he did recently. If you want more mixes and less pure original production, Paul Nice and Peanut Butter Wolf are great for that stuff, among others.

Does anyone know if Baauer is going to be with Danny Brown on May 14th in Indy? Livenation lists the show as Danny Brown and Kitty, which has me considerably less excited. I'm still gonna go, but I'd M U C H rather see Baauer than Kitty loving Pryde.

Maybe check out some Prefuse 73, Besson, if you want instrumentals and you like Flying Lotus. One of his beats https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJY7BMzx7Iw. On the subject of Prefuse 73, always liked his remix of Ghostface's 'Hideyaface' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AADbnoHpu9A

Didn't Gambino basically usurp Drake as candiest motherfucker in the game? Dude is truly bad at rapping and at stand-up. Back to hiphop instrumental chat... earlier Flying Lotus stuff (like his EPs and Los Angeles LP) could maybe be up your alley. Also the TNGHT EP. ninja edit: oops you already mentioned Flying Lotus. I guess that was a no-brainer.
