The +1 thing is turning into a clusterfuck, though. FFF is saying you and your +1 have to enter in together. So my friend who is a +1 and can't arrive til later may be screwed since his ticket holder is planning on getting there early. I've been to many, many, many events with will call (which is essentially what this is: two people under one name at the door) that don't put this limitation on entrance. I really don't see a reason why the ticket holder can't enter and then meet their +1 later to get them in.

I'll be there, Group D. I'll also be at the Hampton tasting the night before.

Apparently the brewpub will be closed this year. In prior years, they would have Barrel Aged Dark Lord on tap and you had to wait 10+ hours in line just to get into the brewpub - people were infamous for staying there all day with little turnover of patrons. The rumor is they'll be having BA Dark Lord on tap at a tent.

C for me too. I'll have a couple bottles to share (probably bringing Doom, Imperial Biscotti Break, and some other random offering from my spare closet cellar) but I don't plan on getting wasted; I'll be making the four hour drive to Jolly Pumpkin the next morning.

The brewpub being closed makes me happy, but I still don't know if the BA DL line is going to be worth it.

For San Diego people - Parabola is trickling into Bevmos and such. The bottle limit was three.

Parabola selling out all over the place in DFW. Basically if you don't show up within the next hour of a place taking delivery, it's gone. Seems like a lot of places are getting a case or less.

Not sure if this has been discussed yet, but this year's Peruvian Morning is infected too. Just had a taste from a bad bottle while shopping today. Very sour; much more sour than the infected 2012 I tasted at Delilah's a while ago.

Oddly enough, none of the ones I've opened myself have been infected, just the one that was open for tasting at The Beer Temple today.

If they have less than a case I assume they just kept some for themselves. I don't think the distributors often ship less than a case to an account since that'd be really awkward to deal with.

In any case, it certainly isn't THAT popular in San Diego. The store I went to was deserted and they still had Sucaba on the shelves; the guy who handed me the Parabola tried to get me to buy it.

I missed Doom by hours at the bottle shop and apparently my usual backup hookup got it yesterday and sold out. I guess that I need to start making :effort: if I don't want to miss Parabola. OTOH this double IPA from dominion was bottled <1mo ago and it's way above average from them. It's not super sweet!

Despite being awkward to deal with, it actually happens all the time. There's even been situations where an account would be lucky to get a handful or a half dozen bottles out of a case.

That is incredibly hilarious, because their brewery is literally right next door to their main competitor, Loveland Distribution. They would have carted the stuff like 50 yards to deliver it and Loveland still couldn't talk them into it.

Finishing a bottle of the New Belgium Twisted Spoke 15th Anniversary beer. It was pricey but an amazing sour with a ton of wood notes and mild "bourbon nose."

Also had a taste of Velvet Merkin which is like chocolate milk. Delicious.

And not beer but... Two sips of Pappy van Winkle 16. No burn at all. Just vanilla. No wonder amazing beers come from this.

speaking of something, the beer buyer at one of the two shops i frequent either quit or was fired, so they put all the stuff she'd been hoarding out on the shelf with no limits. i snagged a BCBCS, Sucaba, Blushing Monk(!), Gingerbread Stout, and six-pack of 2008 Bigfoot, and could've gotten some BA Bigfoot and a few other things (or more of what i already had) if i was feeling greedy/had a lot more money.

Each place I went to had less and less Parabola. The first place sold me three, but the lady gave me an "oops" face because apparently the manager had set a bottle limit of one. The next place insisted on only two, and then my wife went back to the first place and they only gave her one.

The silly part about the Bevmo that only sold me one is that the inventory for Bevmo is listed online. The store only sold like 8 all day and they still have like 2 cases.

:argh: Slim pickings by the time I got there. Picked up a lone 2010 Bigfoot, a 2012 Stone RIS, two Pizza Port/Stone Collab ales, and a four-pack of 2011 Black Chocolate Stout. Oh, and two more Enjoy Bys. Some vaguely bro-y guy came in while I was browsing and started lamenting to everyone who would listen that "the Black Ops was RIGHT THERE only 40 minutes ago! I saw it in a picture!"

Dream on, dude. Dream on. :allears:

Edit: Also, I may have been there on her last day two days ago. They were shelving stuff and one of the main dudes walked by a box of beer (Lagunitas I think) and nudged it off the stack. Bottles shattered and beer went everywhere. She looked mad pissed, and was a bit huffy before that too. It's a real shame she's gone and they're liquidating all the stuff she built up, as that was the only reason I really went there-- and if they don't bring back bottle limits, well, there goes the neighborhood. On top of that, today I heard some guy (had never seen him in there before) talking about changes to the cooler layout that sounded like a bad idea: they're sticking all the local stuff to the left, which kind of fucks up the current style system that works swimmingly.

You might be surprised how well it works to simply point to a giant stack of "local" beer. There's a pretty large continget of people really do just buy local beers because it is local (and frankly, that's not a bad place to start into craft beer).

yeah, the store i shop at least once a week suddenly puts out three highly-rated beers that no store in the area got more than one case of, five years worth of Bigfoot, one-offs that showed up once two years ago, and the last four years of the Bruery's 12 Days beers, so i should skip all that and pick up some SN Pale Ale, right?

KM is referring to the fact that they totally reorganized their coolers so that they no longer make sense. previously, they had been arranged by style, but even after looking at it for a few minutes, there is no discernible rhyme or reason to the new layout. maybe they weren't done at that point, but i still like having it done by style.

Either way, great haul. I've been drinking so many new beers lately, it's awesome. Tonight I tried Ommegang Abbey Ale, Victory Swing Saison, and Avery New World Porter. All of them were at least above average, with the New World Porter being the standout of the night for me.

The last time I was at West Lakeview Liquors in Chicago- the only JK account in Illinois to my knowledge due to a connection with one of their brewers- the owner mentioned that they were going to this. It lead to a brief discussion about how much they're expanding their distribution footprint. She responded very upbeat about it (she helped brew a beer with them recently) but I agree with your concern: seems as if they're spreading themselves thin.

That is pretty cool. I am quickly getting to the point where I just don't care about the hassle of getting tickets to events. Pretty soon the only way I'll go is if a friend is trying to give up a spot or through some other connection.
Or I'll go to what is probably going to be an overcrowded stupid event like the one at Solider Field in May. But really its hard to complain too much about that because like 8 of my close friends are going for someone's birthday.
