So I was puttering about one day on 4chan (I know, I know), when I saw a blank link to something called 'offbeatr'. I thought it sounded familiar, but didn't know where from. I followed the link, and then I remembered a split second before the page loaded: Offbeatr is the adults-only Kickstarter. It may be cheating (ahahaha), but I thought I'd poke around (sorry) and see if there was anything worthy of posting. Hoo boy (all links are , in case you didn't figure it out): First up, Trials in Tainted Space, which seems to be some kind of text adventure, focusing on a question which has no doubt plagued (or, well, chafed) nerds for decades- what if Captain Kirk focused his explorations solely to anything he could stick his dick into? Well, wonder no more! For T.I.T.S. is sure to answer that question and more! Featuring such elements as: Someone who has waaaay too much money posted:Combat that can be won through sensuality or brute force. Sexyhot! It also features 'gold membership', which basically means that you get game membership 2 weeks earlier than everyone else Did I mention that it has $130k with 4 days to go? Now there's a project you can hang your hat on! That is a penis joke, dear viewers! Next up is Aching Dreams 3, featuring the best of Newsgrounds-quality porn, with what seems to be... a tower defence game? Well, can't fault the guy for creativity! Better still, it will also feature voice-acting, with that 5 grand undoubtedly going to hire the finest in VA quality. But on a more serious note (really, I signed up onto Offbeatr just so I could support this project), is the "Aids: Epidemic of Survival" Coffee Table Book. I'll let the project creator speak for himself: quote:"AIDS Epidemic of Survival" will be a fund raising coffee table book featuring 144 photographic images of every day men who have lived 25 or more years with immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/ AIDS). 50 percent of all proceeds will be donated to the Elton John Aids Foundation (EJAF) whos mission is to reduce the incidence of HIV/AIDS through innovative HIV prevention programs, efforts to eliminate stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS, and direct treatment and care services for people living with HIV/AIDS. Now, I suppose you could always donate straight to the Elton John Foundation (or hell, to any other foundation of your choice), and it does seem sketchy that the guy couldn't get publishing support by other means, but I'd like to trust and back this project. I mean, if poo poo like the two games above can get funded (and in TITS's case, massively so), so should this. Even if it turns out to be a dud, I can at least tell myself I tried to do a good thing.

I thought it was pretty sketchy with no concept art of its own to show for the announcement, but then I recalled the name of being the guy who made that "Corruption of Champions" Flash game that is super-popular on the chan boards, so he pretty much made a mint off them, although I'm sure he's going to spend a huge amount commissioning the artists. It always seems weird to me when they say "We would like to add this feature, but we just don't have the time/money". The point of Kickstarter is to provide funding for projects that regular investors refuse to. At the end of the day, you'll still end up with a limited pile of money and an unlimited pile of ideas. Whether the pile of money came from a small group of investors or a large group of crowdfunders is irrelevant; you make due with what you're given, cut out what's least important or most expensive, and get your product out the door before you run out of money to pay employees, buy equipment, and rent office space. Heck, does Kickstarter even allow for rescue funding? If not, than normal investors are still better, since you can always go back to them and try to get more money if you go over budget.

Honestly I like the idea but something smaller and more discrete would be better in my opinion. They had a failed Kickstarter before this one, with three different designs. This is the design they decided to focus on for the second attempt. Seems they might have the other designs as part of their stretch goals, though.

The shoes are relatively inoffensive (until you bring fashion into it) but it's the attitude of these guys that rubs me the wrong way. I understand that it's generally obnoxious when someone is extremely outspoken about their views on an issue, but how is this attitude any different than people who put crosses and bible quotes on everything? Generally when people are asked this they reply that they ARE equally offended by the attitude of outspoken religious people. This is the part that I dont understand, because the people who say this are only bitching about outspoken atheists and people who bitch about outspoken religious people. If you complain about outspoken atheists but not other outspoken groups, then you are part of the reason that atheists feel persecuted, whether you mean to be or not.

Do you seriously know people who put crosses on everything? Necklaces don't count. And Bible verses really aren't any different than other quotes for most people, in that they inspire or make you happy. Only assholes quote the verses that seem to be offensive, but the proportion of inspirational to offensive Bible verses I see are about 100 to 1. And again, where are you seeing people putting Bible quotes on things that aren't Facebook? What's obnoxious about this product is that it is a piece of clothing that you wear to show off to people. The purpose of it is to appear smart. And the message that it shows off is very dividing. It's no different than walking around with a t-shirt that says "If you vote for so-and-so, you're a loving idiot. I'm the smartest." also see: every bumper sticker ever.

Your lovely cartoon character isn't a series if it never left the concept phase, which it's still in. 2. Learn to use proper grammar and capitalization. 3. Making single pictures with some fat retard on it asking his mother for things is not what I would call making "funny situations" and "crazy adventures" 4. Actually invest in a digital artwork software and a tablet if you're planning to make god drat t-shirts that you plan to sell to the masses 5. Considering that $25 is the average price of a t-shirt, how in the hell do you justify the $500 tier of 15 t shirts? Considering that 4 t-shirts would be $100 in a normal store, you're basically robbing them of an extra $100 they could spend on good t-shirts, plus you should have it be LESS THAN RETAIL on your Kickstarter to actually motivate a purchase. Nobody is going to be so excited for "Hey Momma" t-shirts that they would pay an extra $100 than retail for the privilege of getting 15 of your shirts. Of course there are people who stick them down their shirts and don't show anybody, but there are are plenty of religious people who wear them on the outside as well. Everything you said about these shoes applies to those necklaces, just in a slightly different way. They're not necessarily about being smart, and the message is only less dividing because for some reason we consider Christian the default setting for a person in this country. There is definitely an argument to me made against these shoes, but yours sounds a hell of a lot more like "I'm fine with people being gay but they shouldn't shove in other people's faces" than anything reasonable.
