Again, no they don't. They are young, hip women. That's what young, hip, nerdy girls do. They do dorky cutesy poo poo like drawing their favorite rapper and putting it up on Tumblr. Go look at Kitty Pryde's Tumblr, her mixtape covers, and her friends in her videos. They are those girls.

And I'm just gonna go ahead and say that you are the one making misogynist statements, never met someone who didn't have some issues with women that unironically uses the word "vapid".

And not to mention that she repeatedly says that the gropers are OK, as long as they aren't, you know, raping her friend. She was very careful with her words

There are vapid dudes out there too  It's not the dorky cutesy poo poo and the fawning that made them sound bad to me, it's the "they scoff at me for not being that cool online" part. We're not going to agree on this. How can it not be misogynistic to say "there are only two types of female (anything) fans"?

e: I thought everything else she wrote was spot on.
e: Also, I've seen the word "vapid" used unironically by feminist bloggers like Anna North. If this is truly a word that is considered problematic, I will strike it from my vocabulary when referring to people.

I felt it was more in the context of those REALLY into Danny Brown. Cause while there were female fans that were clearly into him, there was definitely a line in the sand between the types of fanship.

Lupe is still really good. His label just really ruined his rep with that lovely Lazers album.

Wale is at his best on mix tapes and features. He too is still really good when he's not rapping about women. Btw, when is his next Seinfield-sampling mixtape supposed to drop?

What is your point here exactly? I have my own reconciliations to make w/r/t glorification of violence etc in a genre I adore but that is besides the point. I wasnt putting down womens studies majors+rap fans... These people are my friends. I just meant that i was curious to know how they deal with the discrepancy in their own minds. he does the "i'm this like that" punchline 75% of the time - p much can't gently caress with similes anymore unless it's really clever

i think its because he is doing a watered down version of what kanye is doing, which kinda sounds like an oxymoron but i think it's true - hes like an indie kanye but without the "crazy" and the "feelability" imo

I have a lot of respect for Lupe. He got some blowback from that T.R.O.Y sample/recreation but he is still sorta the same. He's going the way of Mos Def which is good. Even though Mos Def himself has made 1 or 1.5 solid albums under his belt(if you count Black On Both Sides AND Black Star). Lupe isn't fizzling out as hard, post Lasers. I'd feel Mos a lot more if he went back to that Brooklyn battle rap/story teller style instead of rapping about the Quran or whatever he sings about these days.

Trust me, I tried with Mos. I just ignored Lasers.

I like Doom. His flow is generally regarded as below average but he tends to make up for it with lyrics and production and high concept albums.

Viktor Vaughn LP is probably my favorite of his albums but he didnt do much (any?) of the production for it. More recently, i really enjoy the Clams produced song posted a couple pages back.

Eh, I kinda hosed up with Intruder Alert link but it's whatever. Either you like him or you don't and there's too much music out there to argue about it.
He's one of my favorites but I think he's personally a little hosed up.

Good thing I don't look to artists for life lessons, I guess.

Anyway, I saw that you guys had a discussion about Chance so I want to chime in real quickly. I actually hate most of his production but he's really good technically, and obviously he has a lot of enthusiasm. Here's the only song I could keep from 10 Day.

What's the threads opinion on MF DOOM?

Personally, I really enjoy MF DOOM. I've never been to any of his performances, because I'd rather not get duped, but his albums are great and he's one of the few rappers I can listen to for like a month straight, simply because of how good his lyrics are.

Doom and Lupe are sit down and listen rappers.

Most people think DOOM nerd/hipster rap until his humor clicks for you. After that, it is hard to knock him. DOOM's output has dropped over the years and I bought and forgot that JJ Doom album. You have to listen and relisten to DOOM, he hides a lot of poo poo in his rhymes. Doomsday, Viktor Vaughn, Madvillainy, Mmm Food, Born Like This. There are more albums, I like them all, but those are essential.

This whole song.

'I wonder' from King Geedorah is such an emotion-laden track, it's quite surprising.

He's always spitting over interesting production which makes his stuff infinitely more listenable I'd say but I'm a big DOOM fan anyway.

I like Born Like This, don't remember that getting a great reception but it was a solid release if a bit short.
