It did say that instead of training spell potential from reading books, you train a set amount of potential for all spells every time you sleep. Not sure how much potential reading used to give you, but this seems like a buff for training spells.

You guys weren't kidding about the travelling skill reducing the grind. Holy poo poo. I am also seeming to get way better potential gains from sleeping than I used to. The new god looks fantastic too, a goose that shits plat and an item that magics up more plat? Yes please. GARDENING QUESTS ARE DOABLE WHAT THE HELL. They even evened out the low level hunting quests. The quality of life improvements are absolutely massive.

Gardening quests are pretty easy if you use * to hunt for good patches to pick from, recognize which produce to favor (never cherries), and have some pets to put those annoying hermit crabs down while you pull fruit. Though having enough free inventory space and having at least starter points in Gardening is needed to really start being efficient. Then again I only see people asking for 20s worth of fruit for 90% of the requests, which is like two huge apples. Of course my character did a ton of farming and growing and worships the farming God. Having seeds as a reward from those quests not only makes sense but makes it so finding seeds to farm with isn't a huge hassle.

Big Mad Drongo posted:We talking reasonably while playing normally high level, or hundreds of hours and thousands of platinum spent high level? From the wiki: quote:Unarmed damage begins at 2d5+1. For every 8 levels in Martial Arts, the damage die is upgraded by 1 and the damage bonus is increased by another +1. So at level 8 MA, damage is 2d6+2; level 16, 2d7+3; level 24, 2d8+4; level 32, 2d9+5; and so on and so forth. I would guess that most "really good" weapons you would find would probably be something like around 100 martial arts skill? Except the weapon can have cool elemental effects and other stats. So, some serious grinding before it starts being better than weapons. Edit: and from the wiki, I think I'm realizing that when gloves add to-hit and +damage, it's only meant to apply to martial arts. So much wasted optimization trying to get high-hit gloves on my bells!

Thought I'd give a go to that nuke-the-cave trick mentioned earlier. It's loving hard to get money at lovely levels when you can't go to Vernis, but I did it eventually and it worked beautifully. I still have to scrape together enough to investigate the goodies I got, but I'm pretty drat pleased When I was on my way to Derphy with the money I got ambushed by robbers and thought I was boned, but the guy closes to me stopped to eat a lemon so I ran away. Is there any effect on the non-pet god gifts from switching gods? Seems like a fun next goal to acquire ALL THE THINGS. And I can confirm that the 2nd tier item from Yacatect that gives you 10 free platinum on a long-ish cooldown is, indeed, awesome.

They still work just fine. Once you've got enough faith to get to the third gift scumming your way through the rewards doesn't take that long, since most gifts are fairly common or easy to get if you go about them the right way. The problem will be finding enough god hearts to eventually evolve them.

So...the impression I'm getting from reading this thread is that Elona is like some kind of insane mixture of Morrowind and SS13, with a chunk of Nethack thrown in, liberally spiced with some of the most disturbing aspects of anime, all mixed together to form some kind of demonic entity that will probably melt my computer and attempt to conquer the whole city just for installing it. I am intrigued.

I think this is the first time a video game has allowed me to play as a genuine RPG villain: summoning a bunch of evil monsters in the middle of a crowded town center and then teleporting out while cackling manically. Well, the creatures will also try to tear me apart -- they're not that loyal -- and the teleport is a bit random, but I definitely showed Palmia who's boss this time.

Oh, it turns out that the Alien you summoned got one of the guards pregnant? And he keeps giving birth to more aliens who have now impregnated half the townsfolk? Oh well. You accepted a quest to do some gardening, but when you finished and returned to town, there was a bloody smear, an alien, and a figurine of the person who gave you the quest. Oh well, didn't want that reward anyway.

If you get serious about casting, check out Nerve Arrow instead - it's similar to magic dart, but it checks for Resist Nerve instead, and apparently Nerve is the only resist that you can debuff, in order to land real damage on higher level stuff. The wiki on casting discusses it in-depth.

You can debuff most elements, actually. Only dark, chaos and magic can't be and magic damage is great because nothing resists it, at least not until level 50+ were everything starts getting a baseline magic resistance that caps out at just kind of ok at level 300ish. Nerve arrow has the annoying distinction of being one of the hardest single target spells to cast, as well.

It also has the amazing distinction of paralyzing its target, though!

I played vanilla Elona back when it was still partially untranslated (hipster cred ). I was roaming around a dungeon and bumped into a tiny cute white kitten sprite down there. It was a non-hostile adventurer, but I had a pokeball on me and wondered if you can use them to capture adventurers. Turns out you can. White kittens have kinda high evasion and low health, so I had to savescum a lot, but I finally got myself a white kitten of my very own. I took the little dude everywhere. Later I ended up in Palmia(?) and accidentally bumped into an NPC called Mia with untranslated dialogue (ironically, the other NPCs all talk about how they can't understand a word Mia says). I just clicked through all her textboxes to get her to go away and suddenly she ran off... with my white kitten. It took me a minute or two to notice he wasn't following me anymore, and by then I had saved the game. I got mugged for my kitten by a crazy cat lady. I never got him back. Turns out that Mia gives you a quest to get her a white kitten pet, which I had accidentally accepted... god that was random.

So, I decided to try the nuke the tutorial people for the first time. One of them has more htan a thousand HP apparently. So I savescummed and went and got a second nuke, and I'm repeatedly save scumming to try and see if I can actually kill her. However, anyway I try to set off both nukes doesn't seem to work. Anyone have any advice on what I'm supposed to do, or just give up and move on.
