Finished the boss fight with Big, Bald, and Ugly. Kinda disappointed that all you need to do is get him to half health and he woops your rear end anyway. Yrden is a pretty cool sign, saved my as a lot. Time to Join Iorveth and fight the power.

Just finished my second playthrough, Iorveth's path this time which I highly prefer though it's obviously personal preference. I've started my Dark mode playthrough (gonna go Iorveth's path again, Alchemy spec and one shot everyone), got through the Prologue and haven't noticed a HUGE increase in difficulty over Hard - does it get worse by Chapter?

I will say, this game really could have used an expansion/DLC that consisted of even a couple more quests after the events of Act 3 - you build up this badass killing machine, and then right when you reach max level the game is pretty much over. Even just some monster contracts or something.

e: after a rough first playthrough (was new to PC gaming/mouse+kb), this is one of my favorite games right up there with ME2/Skyrim/Dark Souls. And still one of the most beautiful game I've ever played

I started playing this on the Xbox 360 and got as far as chapter 2 (Iorveth), but after some bits of frustration with the game, I decided to fire up the PC version on a new computer I'd just received. What I got was unexpectedly high quality. Seriously, this game is infinitely better on PC. Simple things like actually seeing Geralt sit down and drink his potion add so much to the game.

Yeah, that was an unbelievably lovely design choice. It's an annoying fight in the first place so to do that is infuriating.

Same with Prelude to War: Aedirn. I was kicking rear end but then nope you get wrecked in a cutscene and everything goes to hell. I loving hate it when games do that, especially if you can "lose" before you have to "win" so you can "lose" when it's out of your control.

:drat: I know I shouldn't get all worked up over the pre-release hype, but if they deliver on even a bit of the promised huge open world while maintaining the quest fidelity of the series then the Witcher 3 is going to be utterly amazing.

It looks really good, my only fear is that the more energy they devote to making a huge open world, the less they can devote to really implementing the illusion of choice*.

* I say illusion because I don't expect that they will (or should) go for actual choice ala Witcher 2, but I'd like my save file's choices to appear to matter. Things like, if I sided with Saskia she fights with me on a quest and if I didn't the fight is a lot harder, or something...not just a throwaway line of dialogue. If they swing too far towards open world, then we'll get stupid "choices matter" bullshit like in Mass Effect 3, where if you killed the Rachni queen there's an exact replica franken-queen created by the Reapers to railroad you down the exact same path.

Also, why the hell does it troll you with a tutorial about glowing chests when there isn't one nearby? :argh:

And I appear to have completed a cocktrice quest...without even doing anything.

I always figured the cockatrice business was just an incredibly hamhanded way of letting you know that Geralt has been doing some witchering on the side while running around with Foltest.

It's just really fiddly to get it to show the "Search" thing...sometimes you have to manipulate the camera to make it show.

I think the most economical way to spend development time on "choices" is for them to focus on internal branching, like Witcher 2 did. Personally, I'm fine with choices from previous games mostly just impacting some dialogue.

Yeah I feel the same way, unlike say Bioware CDProjekt never hyped up importing decisions from the first game into the second they just said you could import saves and it may a change a few things.

That was really annoying. I really wish that outside of combat they would have disabled auto-select and just put a dot in the center of the screen or something.

I wish the delay between combat ending and looting can begin wasn't so long in both Witchers. I just want to grab my poo poo and move on but I find myself jamming on the loot button until the game decides it's safe.

Remember how CDPR was considering some sort of multiplayer component for the Witcher 3? They decided, as Forbes went to go find out nah, not so much with that. I'm more than okay with this.

The rest of the article is some great general information on the game in general, including a short blurb about how they've replaced Geralt's dodge roll with a pirouette, while at the same time reducing the emphasis on dodging, using Witcher Sense to cripple enemies and disable their special attacks. Also, no QTEs.

Also also, CDPR reaffirms their "DRM sucks" stance. Oh, you guys are just the best :allears:

I had kinda been hoping for a multiplayer aspect for grouping up with a friend or two for shits and giggles, but I guess I can understand not worrying about that at all. Perhaps they will use Witcher 3's (hopeful) success to make a fully open world Witcher where you make your own witcher and oh god what am I saying it would just be a new version of WoW or something that had good graphics.

I spent about an hour tweaking settings trying to find what makes this game look like a shimmering pile of poo poo. Turns out it is the Allow Sharpen setting being enabled. Introduces all sorts of artifacts and jaggies. It is turned off automatically when you turn off AA in the game launcher, but can be turned off separately with the tweak mod.

I guess they use FXAA and the Sharpening is some effect to counter the FXAA "smear", but it makes many things look like shimmery crap, like for example Geralt's god drat hair which is always visible.

Can't recommend this change enough, it was bothering the hell out of me.

I honestly cant wait to see what comes out of RedKit. Sure most of it will be dross, but at least it'll be pretty dross. From what they've been saying it looks like (as long as you can get someone decent to write for it) you can make a pretty full featured RPG from their tool.

Modtools for the Witcher 2/REDEngine in general. I sincerely hope this reinvigorates the modding community for the game, the mods for the game now are very basic rebalancing edits and generally lovely retextures (big surprise). With the REDKit, we could get some FCR-level overhauls or people taking it upon themselves to expand Act 3 with a bunch of quests, and that excites me greatly.
