Also, cherry-picked a polite-sounding quote from an anti-gay conservative and made up a really rude-sounding one from a fictional liberal, because politeness is the most important thing. I'm sure all the other conservatives have been equally polite... hah no.

quote:

From disgusting sexual pervert to adored superhero in one short generation.

Anita Bryant was right!

quote:

What a colossal victory for the admirable goal of the homosexual agenda!

Elevate a homosexual negro basketball player to the top dog position in professional sports. Let his presence serve as a homosexual to be honored by America’s youth. Perhaps they’ll honor him further by following the path to Sodom that he’s blazed for them.

Homosexual indoctrination in grade school and now the crowning achievement: a light-in-the-loafers homosexual athlete (isn’t that an oxymoron?) to admire and post pictures of him on bedroom walls.

Isn’t professional sports great?

Boycott pro basketball. The game doesn’t belong to those not of the negro persuasion anyway!

quote:

Um, right, exactly. If we can’t be proud of sodomy, what can we be proud of?

Seriously, I’d encourage the next pro athlete engaged in some other hitherto-considered-deviant-sexual-lifestyle to ride the wave.

Who knows, in today’s ever-”progressive” culture, I could see President Obama awarding the Medal of Honor to the first polo player courageous enough to admit having a thing for his horse.

It's also a little of "you didn't really understand what that story was about" syndrome. Gunny was a bad guy and was shot by one of his own men because he tormented him so much. Not really the kind of person you should want to associate yourself with.

Depends how you look at it. He wasn't a bad guy, he was just trying to tear him down and put him back together tougher, a proud military tradition. I mean he still maintained a rude demeanor, but near the end he started lightening up on the guy.

Basically, if you're an authoritarian, gunny is inherently the good guy, and it probably isn't hard to see D'onofrio as the bad guy.

Even if you're not, Gunny's just a cog in the machine...what he's doing is paternalistic, he's far from the worst character in the film.

Nazism was so enforced in the cultural psych that many German families during the regime, even if they were ambivalent or against the regime privately, had to join the Party for social and possibly even legal reasons. Indeed, for many civil servants and young people (including the future Pope Benedict XVI), it was mandatory. A Good Billboard.

Oh, what a complete loving idiot. I honestly can't tell if LL101 is written by a child or simply a very stupid adult.

First, May Day protests are generally attended by:

- Socialists, who aren't for 'more government' per se, more like 'different/better government'.

- Anarchists, who are equally hostile to both the idea of government and the idea of market capitalism, and would like to see both totally eradicated. :anarchists:

- Social Democrats, who are for basically the exact same system we have now, just with very slightly more regulation.

- Communists. Okay, LL101, you've got me there, most state communists do indeed want a larger government than we have now.

- Labor unions, on account of it being "International Workers' Day" and all.

You're not going to see very many liberals at a May Day rally. There will definitely be some, but it's mostly going to be leftists and social democrats rather than liberals.

Second...you know what, gently caress it. I was going to write out a big long effortpost about why the radical left doesn't generally like being beaten up by policemen, but the fact that such a thing apparently needs to be explained makes me hurt inside.

Dioxins! :supaburn:

quote:

I HAD NO IDEA!...Glad I came across this!!!

Bottled water in your car is very dangerous!
On the Ellen show, Sheryl Crow said that this is what caused her breast cancer. It has been identified as the most common cause of the high levels of dioxin in breast cancer tissue..

Sheryl Crow’s oncologist told her: women should not drink bottled water that has been left in a car. The heat reacts with the chemicals in the plastic of the bottle which releases dioxin into the water. Dioxin is a toxin increasingly found in breast cancer tissue. So please be careful and do not drink bottled water that has been left in a car.

Pass this on to all the women in your life. This information is the kind we need to know that just might save us! Use a stainless steel canteen or a glass bottle instead of plastic!

This information is also being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center … No plastic containers in microwaves. No plastic water bottles in freezers. No plastic wrap in microwaves.

Dioxin chemical causes cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to cells in our bodies. Don’t freeze plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently the Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard.

He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating food in the microwave using plastic containers… This especially applies to foods that contain fat.

He said that the combination of fat, high heat and plastic releases dioxin into the food.

Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food… You get the same result, but without the dioxin.. So, such things as TV dinners, instant soups, etc., should be removed from their containers and heated in something else.

Paper isn’t bad but you don’t know what is in the paper. It’s safer to use tempered glass, such as Pyrex, etc.

He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the styrene foam containers to paper. The dioxin
problem is one of the reasons… Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Cling film, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave.
As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

This is an article that should be share to anyone important in your life!

I was born and raised in China, lived in Japan, and now hold a US passport.

I am wrong in every way, all the damn time.

Ask me about my tattoos.
There's always the problem with things like dioxins and that is that, unless the effects are very obvious like they were with thalidomide, it's hard to say, for certain, whether they're safe or not.

Let's suppose that there is some small, long-term effect from [some chemical] that is produced by [a certain type of plastic, of which there are many and the manufacturing process varied] when it [undergoes some process, be it heating, exposure to UV, whatever]. So already, you can see that there's a lot of things that would potentially need to be studied. Add in the fact that it's long-term (order of years or decades, maybe) and that you have to isolate the effect of that particular thing from the rest of human life, and you can see how a small effect might be lost in the noise.

So I think it's not completely unreasonable to suggest people use glass whenever possible. On the other hand, it's not really necessary to say "don't use plastic or you'll get cancer". I think, probably, the best attitude is something like "Use glass if you don't like plastic, but if you're otherwise actively worrying about plastic [assuming you're using it appropriately, i.e. not melting it, etc] then you're worrying way too much. Also, it's not worth trying to lecture anyone else about it, because you have no proof beyond 'Uhh... I personally don't like it.'"
