I finally fight Grigori and all of a sudden Valmiro is my beloved. That's what I get for not paying attention to that mechanic I guess. Who the gently caress wants to be with someone who loses consciousness on the beach due to lack of herb? :okpos:

I have a few questions.

I've been playing a Sorcerer lately but it seems skill growth has stopped? I haven't gotten past rank 7 despite killing a gorechimera, a cockatrice, and a hydra. Does skill growth stop at 50+ ?

Why did Valmiro beome my beloved? Because I beat his questline? How do I avoid Valmiro wanting to be with me in the future? He sucks.

There must be several quests I've missed throughout the game, considering I've never been to the Blighted Manse or past the Golem in the Witchwood. Why couldn't Capcom make a more obvious quest system?

There are a lot of random sidequests you can easily miss because they just involve going back to random places you've been before triggering another arbitrary checkpoint in the storyline.

Right before you finish his quest with him give him a present of liquid effluvium and he will be neutral to you. It has no other use then making people not like you.

Then again it's gamefaqs so there's no guarantee the guy isn't talking out his rear end, but I can't find any definitive list of skills that do/don't have a ring that buffs them.

I've found that I kind of hate support mages with Grand Anodyne. It takes what feels like 20+ seconds to cast and in the middle of battle they just constantly get staggered out of it and keep retrying or trying to run after me when I'm dodge rolling and jumping all over the place.
I also took on the dual prisoner goreclopses with a sorcerer pawn that, despite being under an overhang they couldn't reach us at, refused to start casting on them until he was within club range. :ughh:
I actually really like grand anodyne! Its the size of an entire room, and the cast is only like an extra 1/2 second. All of the grand cast times are comparatively much faster than the High phase of spells.

A little bit, but there are no air combos in this game as such, other than being juggled by some spells that hit up from the ground.

The important thing is that no matter which class you pick, movement feels as fast and fluid as a game like DMC. It's so much fun just running around like a maniac on the rooftops in Gran Soren.

Mine, named Hyahaa! is level 56. However he's primarily a ranger who is cross-training as a warrior right now.

Are these oiled weapons that the game keeps throwing at me (and have a sale value of 0) worth anything at all, or should I just get rid of them all to keep them from cluttering up my weapon list?

Mine is pretty awesome at lvl 56. Lots of shouting, shield-banging for attention, and murdering every box and barrel in Gransys. Totally worth hiring, particularly for 0 rift crystals via the goon list.

Mostly they don't stand around doing gently caress all, or run off and aggro groups of enemies because they have decent inclincations. They have better skill set ups too.

Hey thanks for the Level 3 weapon, Rollie. It ended up being a Devil's Bane.

That pretty much tipped the scales on making my Mystic Knight a monster. Level 3 burst strike with that sword and Abyssal Anguish took an entire pip and a half off an ice drake in one charge. It can hit like 6-7 times. I also just purified a ring that unlocks level 3 Ruinous Sigil and Stone Forest. I think I'll be taking that for a spin next.

Way too many tips that are probably too abstract to apply when you're just starting out! Yeah!

General:
  • Take every non-escort quest available from the notice boards. Don't focus on them, just do them as you complete actual quests.
  • There's 5 notice boards in the base game: one in Cassardis Inn, one in encampment, one in Gran Soren inn (all escorts), one in Gran Soren tavern (all item gathering), and one in the Gran Soren pawn guild (all kill quests)
  • The forger, Madeleine's permanent shop (only available after a quest that shows you where it is), and the barber are all hidden in the residential district of Gran Soren. Fournival wanders around the city and sells items at a discount compared to the other stores you can purchase them from. A lot of players seem to miss these stores (and the forger and Fournival are the only places you can buy Ferrystones).
  • No one knows how mage/MK enchantments interact with permanent enchantments. Last I heard, they both scale off the enchantee's magic stat and not the enchanter's stats.

Classes:
  • Mages and sorcerers are pretty boring to play, the hybrid mage classes are both great though. Sorceror has good augments for MK/MA.
  • Fighters have the most universally important augment in the form of Sinew (unlocked rank 5), which lets you carry 10 more pounds, all of which are added to the lightest encumbrance level.
  • Prescience (rank 7 fighter) is important for a riposte Mystic Knight, which is pretty much a fighter that causes poo poo to spew from his shield every time he parries (super awesome).
  • Fighters and Striders have dash moves which seem better than they are. For the most part, Burst Strike is a CC attack that you can't follow up on with anything but another Burst Strike, and Cutting Wind is mostly good for avoiding enemy attacks rather than dealing damage.
  • Striders, Assassins, and high rank Magic Archers are the anti-boss classes which makes them the strongest classes up until you start on the post game or expansion pack. Use hundred kisses and Dire Gouge to destroy things' weakpoints. Great Cannon Mystic Knights are also great, though.

Pawns:
  • Everything server side is done on resting, most likely to prevent duping items and cut down on how long the player stares at that loving long rear end loading bar. People whose pawn you rented do not get ratings/crystals/etc until you rest after dismissing/murdering their pawn.
  • The rift is oversaturated with little girls wearing thongs, and young women wearing thongs. I recommend you don't make either.
  • Make sure your pawn does not have Guardian or Nexus inclinations before you rest. Avoiding them in general is good because they invariably make your pawn do stuff less.
  • De-equipping the daggers on your ranger pawn does not make them climb on things less. Removing their dagger abilities might, not sure.

No. Just rune crystals for getting each one.

Apparently on a new game plus you can just get the badges out of storage and that'll count for the quest though? So, easy influx of rune crystals I guess.
