Oh my word, that movie. I'm trying to pick my favourite part but I'm torn between when Shatner threw the kid into the pile of spiders, when Shatner opened a hatch full of spiders onto some poor woman's head, or the sad trombone.

By the by, don't watch this if you actually like spiders, since they clearly killed hundreds in the making of that awful movie.

Jesus gently caress, how many tarantulas did they actually kill in this movie? That was absolutely absurd. I know it's the '70s and super low budget but you'd think to have that many tarantulas on set they'd have to have some kind of professionals there too.

Nope. They apparently just paid $10 a spider to anyone who brought them a tarantula.

This movie took FOREVER to get going, didn't it? So much setup for relatively little pay-off.

It'll bother you if you're a spider lover. They do things like have a bunch of spiders all over the ground and then just have someone drive right through the middle of them- You can see the wheels going over a few. They make a couple of riffs about it, you'd have thought there'd be some sort of law against killing a bunch of animals for a film, but apparently not if they're gross spiders.

The thing is they're using tons of real tarantulas when there was no need. Like the driving scene through the town. The cuts are so fast that you could have done that whole thing with rubber tarantulas. Yet everyone is covered in real ones. Or the aforementioned scene where it runs over some. There's no reason you couldn't have just peppered the ground with rubber ones. Most of them weren't moving anyway. It's just really stupid.

I'm pretty sure bugs aren't covered by the "no animals were harmed" thing at the end of movies.

And I don't give a drat about spiders, but still, that is absolutely insane that they'd kill them for a lovely movie.

They are covered, it just didn't exist yet.

Jesus Christ, I just watched Santa And The Ice Cream Bunny, and I am honestly hurting from laughing so much.

It wasn't so much from the individual riffs, more from the inexorable rising tide of "What the gently caress am I looking at?" incompetence and insanity that they accompany. By the time the Ice Cream Bunny himself finally showed up, to the mournful wails of his siren of horror, and Bill started doing his Krankor laugh whenever this awful, retarded, stroke-afflicted rabbit-thing got a closeup, I'd completely lost it and was literally crying with laughter. I don't think even the best MST3K episodes left me that helpless.

The movie itself... what can be said? Even Manos at least had a narrative of sorts, and Hal Warren must have seen a movie before.

Just checked this out and I can confirm it is batshit and hilarious.

I love that one. The sheer insanity once the sirens begin, the way the bunny nearly goddamn runs over the dog and kills it, the way they didn't dub the kids at the end so they're just silently screaming along with the siren.. Magical.

The LotR riffs are very much in the "Make everything ridiculous without really making fun of the movies" vein, which I like a lot.
