How the gently caress is Silver Surfer anywhere below Super-heavyweight?

I think that's strictly a measure of punchbrawn.

I woulda put Namor and She-Hulk one class higher, personally. But I guess that might be because I'm used to how horribly nerfed Spider-man's strength is nowadays. Anyone bulky at all hits harder than him in most modern stories. He used to be able to punch through brick walls if he felt like it!

I think he pulls his punches a lot; he loses it on the Sin-Eater (who had increased strength and endurance) at the end of "The Death Of Jean DeWolff" and the guy's basically crippled for life after that.

IIRC he's in the 10-ton press range, which is orders of magnitude lower than the real powerhouses, but the ranges there are about right I think - well, as close to it as they can be given the massive variability of super-people over their 50-odd year history. He pulls (or pulled, it's been a long while since I read Spider-Man seriously, I hear he's doctor octopus these days or something) his punches a LOT because most of his opponents are basically costumed normals rather than superhumans, particularly not that often super-strong or super-durable (the likes of shocker, electro, vulture, doc ock, etc etc etc). But against the likes of Venom and Carnage, the fights tended to be more all-out and property-damaging. Spider-Mn's p. badass when he needs to be.

Yeah, the Death of Jean DeWollfe follow up story makes it clear that Carter suffered those injuries, in part, because he was a normal human on the other end of Spider-Man's super-strength. Daredevil has commented, in the same story, that if he wasn't able to roll with Spider-Man's punches, he would've been seriously injured as well.

A lot of the characters on that chart have also been moved around since then, due to power creep or storyline factors. Colossus is probably up at least one tier, the Thing should probably be up on the top if Wonder Man is, and Luke Cage should be down with Hank McCoy and the rest.
