My Xoom feels like the slowest device on earth. I don't know if it actually is slower, or just the perception of it now that I have a Note II and a Nexus 7. I hope this update breathes some new life into it.

Well if you believe Quadrant's benchmarks to have any validity, the Xoom scores about 1820-1960 or so while the Nexus 7 scores 3500-3700 and the Note II scores 5000-5200. So it is quite slow in raw power compared to your other devices, but then it's also plenty older too.

What is the go-to case for the Nexus 10? Otterbox doesn't seem to make one, and I just wouldn't feel comfortable throwing it in a bag without any protection. edit: This one looks pretty good. Anyone have one? Loucks fucked around with this message at 00:38 on May 12, 2013 |

I checked out other Nook HD Plus tablets in-store and it turns out that yeah, they aren't so super laggy after all. After figuring out how to change wallpapers on them, I determined it was the whale live wallpaper that must have been causing the super lagginess on the previous tablet I used. I didn't think of it at the time since the Nook HD I used was running a live wallpaper as well but it seems that the whale one in particular takes a huge and noticable toll. That said any old image viewer apps that don't really use the CPU do take a big hit on the high res screen of the HD Plus when doing transitions and such, but anything newer is fine.

I got a Note 10.1 after looking around for my first Android tablet a few days ago. The expandable mini SD slot was a pretty huge plus for me, and I'm not usually one to worry about displays as long as they're "good enough" so I figured 1280x800 would be more than fine. After using this for a few days, it's not. I'm returning this and now I'm back to looking at the Nexus 10 and the TF700. I'd mostly be using this for browsing, HD media, and some gaming. Right now I'm leaning towards the Nexus 10, but I wanted to post to ask if there was a reason I shouldn't buy the Nexus so I don't get the wrong thing again. So, good choice? edit - also, is there an accessory that would allow me to use this extra 64GB mini SD card I have now? gaxsezu fucked around with this message at 00:06 on May 13, 2013 |

I know this is anti-tf700 territory. But the tablet has micro sd and the dock/keyboard has a sd slot and USB. You can also get a USB adapter for the tablet itself that could probably read some sdcard reader. The USB slot reads my 2 tb HD. Otherwise there's plenty of apps to take or stream media from your PC and such. Despite the faults the tf700 is a pretty cool piece of gear. Especially with the dock. Screen is amazing as well. I don't really have a bias towards either one personally. I'm not planning on getting the dock/keyboard, and while the microSD WAS pretty tempting the Nexus 10's better performance, screen, and OS update schedule tipped me towards the Nexus. Thanks for the reply though. edit - actually I'm an idiot, this is the wrong thread

I was all hyped to root when I got my GS3, but looking further into it I never really needed to after installing Nova. The TF700 did seem to be getting a little long in the tooth as well. The Nexus display is just as good, if not better, than the TF700's, no? I'm starting to feel better about my decision. Thanks Syrinxx.

So, my Nexus 10 is plugged in to the wall adapter it came with, and as I use it, it's losing charge, even though it says it's "charging". Is this normal? I could accept this if it charged in an hour or two when it was not in use, but it actually takes about 10 hours to charge fully when I'm not using it. Battery life is good once it's fully charged, but since the headphones make crackling noises when it's plugged in, and I have to keep it plugged in constantly at home so that I actually have some battery life when I'm on the go, it's kind of a pain in the rear end. Do any of these problems have a solution?

To actually use AND charge the Nexus 10 at the same time, you need to drop the brightness to like at least 1/4 max brightness. My mom's N10 does the same thing. I just discovered a charging cable for the Nexus 10 that uses the pogo pins. The reviews say it charge faster, but it ends up being $25 after shipping and that's a little steep. Also it seems like it'd be inconvenient to use while it's charging. I'll wait for the official overpriced charging dock.

Kerbtree posted:Sorry, to clarify, I can use all the usual Google stuff, but I'm not getting any push notifications while on the wireless. It's possible they may have the connection timeout down to a very low level or kill persistant connections. If Google's C2D notifications are anything like activesync, they require a persistent connection back to the server so that the server can instantly notify of anything new. That connection is largely idle with occasional heartbeat messages to maintain it. The networks you are on may be looking at all these dangling connections with no real traffic and chopping them off. Thus, you would never receive notifications even though you can otherwise access services just fine.

I noticed 3 hairline cracks in my N7 screen out of the blue today. It's weird because they're in completely different spots and directions. Does this happen to N7's? Does anyone know if Asus will be cool about it with their manufacturers warranty, or am I hosed? Googling around makes it seem like this sort of thing just happens to some people, but I haven't noticed any weirdness with the actual touch screen sensitivity, just random cracks out of nowhere.

Have a Nexus 7 issue I'm trying to solve for my son. His suffered a broken screen a month or so after he bought it. He was using it with the borked screen for a bit but one day when he was home sick from school he was watching videos and decided to lock the screen orientation. He fell asleep and eventually the tablet went to sleep. When he tried to wake it back up the pattern lock was over part of the screen that won't take input and since it can't rotate because he can't access it. I'm trying to unlock/factory flash it but since A) we didn't unlock the bootloader I can't access recovery and B) he didn't enable USB debugging before it broke. We're hoping to replace the screen sooner rather than later, but in the meantime he'd like his sweet, sweet Adventure Time fix. I'm googling around and hoping to figure out how to fix it via ADB, but if somebody can point me down the right rabbit hole, he'd be very appreciative.

To anybody who picked up a nook HD+, or was deeply considering it: Installing CM 10.1 on the emmc rather than running it off an SD card makes it a much better experience. Easily 5x faster and more usable.

The first thing to decide is whether you care about any of the data on the device. If you do then you're probably in trouble because I can't think of a good way to get a backup of it with a locked bootloader, unrooted, and no USB debugging. If you don't care about the data on it then this is going to be pretty simple: 1) Install Tools and USB Driver from the Android SDK. When it asks you which components you want, choose both items under "Tools", and "Google USB Driver" under "Extras". 2) Reboot the phone to the bootloader, connect it on USB, open a command prompt, and run ".\android-sdk\platform-tools\fastboot devices". Adjust the path as appropriate. Hopefully you get a response saying that it can see your device. If it can't you'll need to fiddle around with Device Manager a bit, deleting the phone and reconnecting it to get it to use the correct driver, or telling it manually to use the Google USB Driver (.\android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver\android_winusb.inf). 3) Factory reset the device by running ".\android-sdk\platform-tools\fastboot format userdata That's actually all you need if you just want to reset it. This is going to straight up delete every single thing on the device, including the virtual sdcard. So app data, music, photos, everything. There's actually no need to unlock the bootloader or root it since all you're trying to do is get back into the device. If you do want to do that at the same time then feel free to ask in the root thread and I'll throw up a quick guide for you. Tunga fucked around with this message at 15:04 on May 14, 2013 |
