An inline hardwired fm modulator sounds as good as any strong real fm station. Or for cheaper you can hack certain model belkin wireless fm mods to xmit lots more power. Sounds about as good as a hardwired one. I've done about 5 of these and a friend has done 3 with good luck. Can get them for about on ebay. http://computerchristmas.com/christmas/link-how_to/HowToId-133/Belkin_Tunecast_Auto_Universal_FM_transmitter_Mod

If anyone is curious, I downloaded some population data from the US census bureau which definitely has all incorporated areas, as well as a lot of unincorporated ones. There's a shitload of places like Township 1 or whatever number, and Minnesota has a Camp 5 Township, as well as unorganized territories called Lake No. 1 and Lake No. 2. I haven't decided yet whether these count or not for my question. e re. foxes: There was a really good article in National Geographic about animal domestication within the last two years or so, and they discussed foxes at length. I believe the issue has a fox on the cover as well. stubblyhead fucked around with this message at 22:03 on May 17, 2013 |

randyest posted:Who would stop a town from putting a numeral in it's name? Is there like some sort of official registry or something? The postal service generally decides what the formal name for an area will be, and many towns and other municipalities throughout the US have had their names changed over time to match with what the postal service asked for. This particularly happened in the latter 19th century, when a lot of towns finally got their own post office and they went through clearing up names (particularly encouraging towns duplicating the name of another town or city in the same state to change theirs). An example would be a town called "Maple Corners" but there was already another town in the state called "Maple Corner". The Postal Service might decide that the town would now be called "Maple Heights", and if people wanted to mail anything to the town then it better have the name "Maple Heights" on it or else it won't get delivered. Usually, the town government would grumblr but agree to match the name up for convenience sake. There have also probably been several cases of a town name originally being kinda dirty or risque, and the postal service deciding they'd prefer to use another name. The postal service is a bit more lax about naming these days though, because ever since the ZIP Code system was implemented it's become a lot easier to manage name conflicts or weird names, since the ZIP Codes will be unique. I've tried an FM transmitter, but it had horrible quality. I've looked for a way to use the CD player but haven't found anything. I was becoming increasing frustrated with FM transmitters, but like you had little way to avoid the problem without having to replace the entire receiver in a stock Trailblazer. I ended up purchasing the GOgroove FlexSMART X2 Wireless In-Car Bluetooth FM Transmitter and was pretty stunned how well it worked. I was really skeptical, but the reviews convinced me and the ease of using Bluetooth with my iPhone is phenomenal. I've been using it about four months and only last week had my first problem with some "fuzz" on the station I was using that was easily solved by changing to a new FM station. I think you're better off upgrading your receiver, but it's an option to think about that definitely worked out for me.

I'm looking to buy wireless headphones, like the kind that you can plug into a TV. Can someone recommend me a set? I don't want anything real fancy and I'm not super concerned with having awesome sound quality, it's really just so my fiance won't bug me playing xbox when I need to go to bed early. Maybe something in the $50-75 range? Thanks.

You could set that up and just plug the headphones into the radio, and the transmitter into the TV (maybe with a RCA audio jack to headphone port converter like this http://roxsat.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=137_21_230&products_id=741&zenid=7d9b4f2ced6f2d3bc2e20b3d7be0dd99 if your TV doesn't come with a headphone jack to use).

This didn't seem like it needed its own thread. I found out someone I know was on an episode of Judge Hatchett like 12 years ago. I need to find this episode, but have had no luck. I'm willing to pay if there's some service or something that allows you to get back episodes of dumb judge shows where they send troubled teens to boot camp or something. Pretty much all I have is the date it originally aired.

How in the summerloving heck can I contact a real human being at Yahoo about my Flickr account? My Yahoo account was temporarily set to a German language setting ten years ago. So they restrict my Flickr account to German settings. (This means that I can't see certain stuff--basically it's like GIS with safesearch always on.) I've tried changing settings on the website and I've contacted their "customer care" via email more than once. Their robot responses have been less than helpful. This is such a tiny detail that should be easily fixable, but this glitch has been screwing up my account since 2007. What can I do about nonexistent customer service short of threatening the CEO?

I've watched a lot of nature documentaries that depict schools of fish forming a swirling ball whenever they are surrounded by predators, such as sharks or dolphins. Each fish is constantly trying to move towards the center of the roiling mass, where they are shielded from the jaws of the sharks. Individuals who break off are picked off. I always thought that this was a losing strategy, since the sharks could just pick them off at their leisure once they're well surrounded (this is how I've won many a Starcraft game). But then it occurred to me that most of the fish will not get eaten because the sharks have limited appetites and will leave when sated. When the fish swarm into a ball, each is trying to make sure it will be their fellows and not them who sate the sharks' hunger. The fish are thus not really mounting a defence but instead organizing the sacrifice of their weakest swimmers. Is my interpretation correct? Any biologists here?

In the original Star Trek, captain Kirk wore yellow. In all the ones since, the captain has worn red. Why did that change? I'm sure star trek fans know this straight away but I've never been into the show.

In the original show, they didn't bother to come up with a good in-universe reason for the colors of the uniforms; they were just what the designers thought would look cool. For the second movie (Wrath of Khan in 1982) the production designers wanted to make Starfleet more explicitly a uniformed civil service with a military influence, so they redesigned all the uniforms and settled on a standard color scheme which they could apply to every member of the crew.

I'm sure star trek fans know this straight away but I've never been into the show. Patrick Stewart looked better in red than in that yellow-green color, so the producers decided to swap around the colors of the departments. DS9 and Voyager had the same setting as TNG, so the colors carried over. Enterprise was set centuries earlier, so they went back to the original color scheme (but only used it for the accent stripes on the blue jumpsuits).

Each fish is constantly trying to move towards the center of the roiling mass, where they are shielded from the jaws of the sharks. Individuals who break off are picked off. I'm a biologist, not a fish ecologist but I'll try to answer. See it from an individual fish's point of view. If you head into the middle of the ball of N fish, and the shark pics off one at random, the probability that you will be eaten is 1/N. If you dash off and get chased by a shark, you are a filet. For a predator, it is actually harder to catch a single prey out of any of the fish in a school than it is to catch a single fish. The same effect can be demonstrated in human: throw a coin into the air and catch it on the way down - easy; throw a handful of small change into the air an try to catch any of the coins on the way down - hard. Schooling is really interesting actually, and there are lots of ecologist working on it from different aspects. Lots of interesting stuff in the wiki articles on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schooling_%28fish%29]schooling \and collective animal behaviour.

I'm trying to make a disguise for myself because I'm trying to keep my identity a secret during a public appearance. What's an easy way to make a mask that looks hokey enough so the cops won't arrest me for being a terrorist, but also isn't completely stupid looking? I'm pretty much going to just get a piece of denim or black canvas and I'm going to punch some holes in it with a knife. Is this a good way to make a mask?

It's copied to the "clipboard" and is just in memory, similar to anything you'd cut or copied in a program. It isn't saved anywhere permanently unless you paste it in a program and save that. You can paste screenshots into MS Paint and save them there if you don't want to use Picasa, but if you have a large screen (and/or more than one) the screenshot itself can get pretty big, and in memory it'll be an uncompressed bitmap. eta: any suggestions on learning to type posts faster?
